10am for children to swim in apartment complex?

First time I’ve done a holiday like this.
Airbnb apartment around a lovely medium sized pool.

Very Spanish, no Brits, quiet and sleepy. There are children and typically they’ve been up late (later than I go to bed at 10.... single parent!) and up late in morning.
My two have been in bed at 8, and up at 7.30, so desperate to swim by 10.

They are not noisy and don’t argue but there will be laughter, there will be splashing, there will be shrieks.

Is 10am reasonable?

Scrap that! Just looked out and there’s a gaggle of Spanish children heading to the pool.

My two are dashing around getting their bits together to get down there ASAP!

it’s fine

noideaatallreally · 24/08/2019 09:10

Was about to say I think 9 is fine. It gets hot mid afternoon so if they don't get in early they will not have too long in there. Enjoy your holiday!

herculepoirot2 · 24/08/2019 09:10

Earlier than that. I’d let them swim from 7 as long as they were quiet about it.

brighteyeowl17 · 24/08/2019 09:11

I don’t see why 8am wouldn’t be ok it’s summer!

Boom45 · 24/08/2019 09:15

I find that the spanish are early risers generally; they get up early, stay up late and rest/sleep during the middle of the day when it's hot. That's how my family handle the heat of southern Spain anyway. I'd say 10 am is absolutely fine to go in the pool.

How nice that you are in a place with local people and not having to cope with Brits abroad.

Hope you can speak a few words (or more) of Spanish too.

ControversialFerret · 24/08/2019 09:23

It's fine. We have family we visit who live in a similar place. Pool is open 8am-8pm in the spring and summer and then 9am-8pm in the autumn and winter.

KUGA · 24/08/2019 09:28

Any time after 7am would be fine by me.
It is a holiday after all.

Yes studied Spanish at university (20 years ago!). So very proficient.

However I have not encountered “Brits abroad” and I actually find that kind of attitude a bit pompous!

Yes - all children in pool. Lots of laughter and shrieks. I think 10am might be a good time. I know others have suggested earlier but it really is very sleepy and quiet and I want to be respectful of the feel of the place. Nothing that books / iPad / UNO can’t solve!

Thanks all

You're really very considerate, Lovemenorca, hope you and your children have a wonderful time on holiday, I'm sure you will. :)

dreamingofsun · 24/08/2019 09:50

hope i have neighbours like you on holiday lovemenorce. Hope i dont encounter shriekiing kids at 7am as that would ruin my holiday. They may be awake then but i'd normally be asleep having a well- earned chill

herculepoirot2 · 24/08/2019 10:02

I used to holiday in Spain when I was a kid and would get up at 6 for a very quiet and respectful swim before the sun made it uncomfortable. It was perfect.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 24/08/2019 10:04

10am is fine. I’m never up by that time on holiday though Grin

PapaShango · 24/08/2019 10:11

My dc are up at 7/7.30am regardless of what time they go to sleep. It worked out perfectly for us as we would get up, brush teeth and go straight out to the pool for an hour or so before it got busy. We’d then come in, shower and go down for breakfast. There would always be a handful of families in there and everyone kept the noise down. I’m sure no one will mind you going in early. Just ask dc to keep the noise down a bit

Hoppinggreen · 24/08/2019 10:15

We own a property in a very Spanish area of Spain (if that makes sense?) pool doesn’t open until 11, but stays open until 9!

Beautiful3 · 24/08/2019 10:24

You're very considerate. How refreshing.

AlpacaGoodnight · 24/08/2019 10:48

Enjoy! 10 sounds perfect!

OhUmOhUm · 24/08/2019 11:16

We live in Spain, in an apartment complex with a pool. Kids and adults are in it from 8am-11pm, totally normal.

really? With the classic MN phrasing..... did you mean to be so rude?

What does it matter if OP can speak a few words of Spanish - she's being hugely considerate about making noises pre 10am...

OhUmOhUm · 24/08/2019 12:54

CruellaFeinberg We live in Spain and have done for many years. The 'Brits abroad' thing is a reality. Honestly when we walk past some (some not all) of them and their loutish behaviour I'm embarrassed to be British.

Being able to say please and thank you in Spanish is just polite, so no need for the outrage.

I thought it was rude - and completely irrelevant

Sillysally1998 · 24/08/2019 14:37

We have a place in Spain and the restriction in the morning is really so that the maintenance people can test / top-up chemicals and water levels and make sure the water is filtered and the are is clean and tidy.

Sillysally1998 · 24/08/2019 14:37

Sorry, area is clean and tidy

OhUmOhUm · 24/08/2019 17:13

Rude to be able to say please and thank you? Bizarre thinking.
