To be worried about my holiday booked for early November?

I’ve got a holiday booked for 1st November - it’s just a long weekend to Italy but I am suddenly really worried about a no deal Brexit & how it might affect my hols. It’s for my husbands special birthday & was booked ages ago.
Aibu to now be concerned? People keep saying planes won’t fly & there will be huge disruption - not to mention a crap pound.

I know it’s a first world problem in the big scheme of things but it’s a treat we have been saving for and looking forward to for ages

I have a holiday booked to japan on the 4th November and also worried. Will be so disappointed if things get ruined

TheBadCop · 24/08/2019 07:46

of course planes will fly. granded, lot of things will change esp in case of a no deal but I really would not worry about the holiday.

Stripyseagulls · 24/08/2019 07:48

It’s the uncertainty- no one seems to have any advice for me - I am assuming there will be chaos that morning if we crash out???

Well considering brexit was supposed to be 31st March and it wasn't I wouldn't worry . Still no deal so this could go on ...

countrygirl99 · 24/08/2019 07:53

Just make sure you allow plenty of time for check in & security. We flew the first day of the ban on liquids in hand luggage and that was chaos enough.

IceRebel · 24/08/2019 07:55

I'm on the opposite side of this. Due to fly back to the UK on the 2nd of November, and i'm wondering if there will be any disruption or delays.

Boom45 · 24/08/2019 07:55

Well. A couple of imaginary drones grounded all planes at Gatwick for 3 days so I imagine they'll be some disruption when we crash out of all agreements that govern international travel and air traffic control and stuff. Doesn't mean you won't get there though - just make sure you've got at least 6 months on your passports.

JollyAndBright · 24/08/2019 08:01

I would definitely prepare to be at the airport a lot earlier as I imagine it will take a lot longer to get through both ways.

I would also get any Euros I need now as the value of the pound is only going to get worse.

Stripyseagulls · 24/08/2019 08:03

My flight is an early one too already 😫 God I am so tired of Brexit 😥

You'll be fine Hmm

I'm out of the country over Brexit. Planes will still fly. There might be some delays and disruption, but they'll still come in and out of the UK.

namechange34 · 24/08/2019 08:09

I think it is more likely the delays will be when you return, getting through passport control etc. I'm travelling in half term but making sure we travel back on 30 Oct (esp as DC dont have UK passports)

lavenderandthyme · 24/08/2019 08:09

I have booked a holiday mid November and am feeling the same. I keep delaying paying the balance as I am worried. I’ve only paid a low deposit but the balance is due now and Im so undecided.

sugarplumfairy28 · 24/08/2019 08:18

My first question would be are you British? If you are then I would think you only have to worry about possible delays, if you are from somewhere else in the EU I would worry I'm afraid, and to that end I would probably cancel closer to the date if no plans or details come to light as to how you would be affected.

ForalltheSaints · 24/08/2019 08:19

The biggest concern I think you should have is the value of the pound. Or that if you are flying during the school half term, that it will be busier than usual and that the borders agency will understaff the airport.

euro23451277 · 24/08/2019 08:22

We are fly on the 2nd for a big bday for DH that we booked pre Brexit dates. We are just going to bare in mind security might take ages and give ourselves plenty of time. We are flying early which I’m hoping will be better as the airport should be less busy if there are lots of cancellations etc later on the day

Writersblock2 · 24/08/2019 08:22

I’m also traveling in November but I’m not particularly worried.
Planes will still fly.

euro23451277 · 24/08/2019 08:22

It’s the back end of half term so in that respect it should be okay

Juells · 24/08/2019 08:23

Why would a holiday to Japan be affected? Genuine question...

I’m confused by this. I don’t understand why being an EU citizen travelling to Italy would be a problem. 🤷‍♀️

Stripyseagulls · 24/08/2019 08:25

We are all British so will hopefully be let back into the country 😬 I might get some euros now although have just been in France & the exchange rate was terrible even now

I’m assuming the comment you mention was related to Priti Patel’s utterly crazy plan to close all freedom of movement so that would mean if you were an EU citizen travelling back into the UK, you might not be able to get back in

have you considered the option that the Italians won't let you in without visa GrinGrinGrin

theduchessstill · 24/08/2019 08:32

If we've left it won't be a case of an EU citizen travelling, will it? Sad

Stripyseagulls · 24/08/2019 08:33

have you considered the option that the Italians won't let you in without visa

I know- and this is the problem- so much uncertainty! We won’t know if we need a visa until we crash out & are potentially in unchartered water - this is what is making me stresssed.

I hate Brexit and all it stands for

No point worrying yet. Hopefully nothing will happen on 31st.

The pound is already crap too. I just bought euros and wasn't happy.
