To think it’s rude to spray deodorant on public transport?

Cooped up on a bus, not busy but very hot and slow in traffic so just want to get home anyway but this stupid woman who has been talking very loudly on her phone for the past twenty minutes has now sprayed deodorant. It’s getting on my chest. AIBU to think she’s being bloody anti social?

Depends on the situation. If they stink before then spritz a little deodorant, it is definitely preferable to an overwhelming pong.

PrettyShiningPeople · 23/08/2019 17:45

It’s awful, a bus is an enclosed space and is no place for spraying anything. It’s unfair when people have no place else to go.

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 23/08/2019 17:49

It's unreasonable. There could be passengers with asthma, and even when you don't it's annoying to have deodorant sprayed in close proximity.

But TBH I'd be secretly glad as people STINK in the heat. Would rather smell overbearing perfume or deodorant.

Baguetteaboutit · 23/08/2019 17:51

Spray on deodorant make me wheeze. I'd have to get off and get the next bus - which is why I love my car.

TroysMammy · 23/08/2019 17:52

Was she spraying it on herself or using it as an air freshener? If the latter she is a twat.

Cornettoninja · 23/08/2019 18:06

Yanbu. I really dislike people who spray their deodorant/perfume/whatever in enclosed spaces. Firstly it’s really inconsiderate of people with asthma or allergies (bit of BO, dirty person stink doesn’t stop you being able to breathe. You’ll survive) and secondly smell is really subjective. Just because you find a smell pleasant doesn’t mean everyone will. Some people like the smell of petrol, some people will feel nauseous if they get a whiff.

milliefiori · 23/08/2019 18:07

Yes it is. A teen did this on the train the other day. It triggers my asthma and I didn't have my inhaler on me. I had to gasp fresh air at every stop until it was time to get off.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 23/08/2019 18:10

The only time I've ever done something similar was being on a long train journey whilst pregnant and a woman across the aisle decided to eat what smelt like kippers Envy

Aquamarine1029 · 23/08/2019 18:11

Very rude.

GruciusMalfoy · 23/08/2019 18:11

It's extremely selfish, and doesn't take other passengers' comfort into account.

JacquesHammer · 23/08/2019 18:11

Massively anti-social and potentially dangerous.

But then so many people who use public transport give no thought to anyone but themselves.

Shoxfordian · 23/08/2019 18:12

Not if she smells, then she needs the deodorant

bakedbeanzontoast · 23/08/2019 18:13

@JacquesHammer yes, I try to avoid public transport when I can due to other people.

CutsAndSnoozes · 23/08/2019 18:14

Allergic to perfumes, sprays, vape.

This hasn't stopped people I've known, from doing these things with me there in a confined space.

It's put me in hospital before.

People are stupid and inconsiderate.

bellabasset · 23/08/2019 18:15

It's worse than rude as some sprays will affect people with asthma or chest conditions

Baguetteaboutit · 23/08/2019 18:16

Bit stinky < Breathing

FuckFacePlatapus · 23/08/2019 18:17

Anti Social? No she is not, and i have Asthma and this would not bother me.

Baguetteaboutit · 23/08/2019 18:18

You are aware that asthmatics have different triggers though, right?

JacquesHammer · 23/08/2019 18:18

Anti Social? No she is not

Doing anything which has the potential to negatively affect other people is anti-social

and i have Asthma and this would not bother me

Not all asthma triggers are the same. It wouldn’t affect DD, however aerosols are banned at DD’s school because someone is massively affected by them.

CremeEggThief · 23/08/2019 18:20

In general, I wouldn't, but I did it once when I was on a train during my interrailing trip and there were no toilets (they were all out of order).

BeanBag7 · 23/08/2019 18:26

I would have made it really obvious that it was annoying. Start coughing madly and puffing on your inhaler. Open the window and waft the stink out.

poolblack · 23/08/2019 18:30

Yes and it's bloody weird that people think spraying things is ok. The other week I was in Starbucks and the woman 2 tables along sprayed her perfume all over the place! Totally ruined my lunch break, I try to avoid perfumes as they trigger migraine, I can handle it on people but not a bloody cloud of the stuff in my coffee Hmm

SchrodingersMeowth · 23/08/2019 18:33

I’d choke and would need anti-histamines. Lips swell, it’s awful. Same with some of those car air fresheners.

I don’t have asthma so it’s not just asthmatics that would have a problem with this.

StartingOverBleh · 23/08/2019 18:36

I fucking hate this. I used to work with someone who sprayed perfume at her desk, it annoyed the shit out of me.

I was in a cubicle at the swimming pool once and the woman in the one next to us was spraying deodorant. Which is fair enough, but she did it for around 5 seconds for each armpit and I could barely breathe. Pissed me right off.

Chouetted · 23/08/2019 18:45

Unbelievably dangerous and stupid.

The last person I saw spray deoderant in a confined space was very shocked to be abruptly elbowed out of the way by me running for fresh air before my asthma started playing up. I would have been less rude, but she completely blocked the only escape route while liberally spraying it all around, and explaining would have required breathing it in.
