To think it’s rude to spray deodorant on public transport?

Cooped up on a bus, not busy but very hot and slow in traffic so just want to get home anyway but this stupid woman who has been talking very loudly on her phone for the past twenty minutes has now sprayed deodorant. It’s getting on my chest. AIBU to think she’s being bloody anti social?

In this heat it's not unreasonable to spray deodorant- you said yourself the bus is hot which means people are likely sweating. I do ask if anyone's asthmatic (in the immediate area) befire spraying but I fail to see how deodorant can smell offensive. Surely body odor is more offensive and I am subjected to other, smelly, people's regularly

WrongKindOfFace · 23/08/2019 19:26

Surely, if it’s a deodorant emergency (unlikely) a stick or roll in would be a more gravel friendly method?

Also, lynx spraying on public transport should be a criminal offence.

MaxNormal · 23/08/2019 19:34

That would have triggered a migraine for me.
I'd far rather smell someone's BO than get a lungfull of chemicals thanks.

Various “fake” smells trigger massive headache, visual disturbance and nausea for me. Certain perfumes/deodorants are real problems for me.

Sweat caused none of those issues.

DS2 ended up in hospital last year after a man used deodorant on the bus. Huge cloud of Lynx triggered a major asthma attack and everyone was inconvenienced when the bus had to pull over and wait for the ambulance (not a safe place for us to get out and wait).

If you're worried you might stink in the heat buy a fucking roll on.

I'm another one who would rather smell body odour rather than aerosol deodorant in a confined, stuffy space. Luckily I don't have any physical symptoms but I have sensory issues and a strong fragrance like that would cause me to cough and gag.
Also, once you've got body odour, the deodorant doesn't really mask it, you just have a combination of BO and artificial fragrance, that I think smells more noticeable and unpleasant than just BO on its own.

cakesandphotos · 23/08/2019 20:02

I use natural deodorant now and it's only since using it that I've become really sensitive to the artificial smell of sprays. Someone sprayed one a few cubicles down at the swimming pool the other day and I found it very cloying. On a bus i would have to get off. YANB

KatherineJaneway · 23/08/2019 23:22

I'd rather smell deodorant than BO.

Anerak · 23/08/2019 23:26

I agree, it's awful. So unhealthy

VladmirsPoutine · 23/08/2019 23:28

Yanbu. Why would anyone do this!?

whattodowith · 23/08/2019 23:28

It’s potentially dangerous to asthmatics.

Bambamber · 23/08/2019 23:33

I would rather smell someone's BO than have an asthma attack. And someone spraying deodrant close to me in a confined space would absolutely do that. Your sweaty pits will survive 10 mins without deodrant. I won't survive 10 mins without being able to breath

Sunflower20 · 24/08/2019 00:04

Hate this. People need to use roll ons in public.

Sunflower20 · 24/08/2019 00:06

Also would rather smell BO than deodorant

redexpat · 24/08/2019 00:06

It's not rude. Its really inconsiderate.

FairyDust92 · 24/08/2019 00:11

It's in considerate. My partner has really bad asthma and would struggle if someone did this. Maybe she did stink but she could have been considerate and waited until she got of the bus.

TheDarkPassenger · 24/08/2019 00:12

This is why I like my car. No people around, just other dickhead drivers

PumpkinP · 24/08/2019 00:19

I hate roll ons and don’t use them ever but I do think it is rude so she should have waited until off the bus.

CSIblonde · 24/08/2019 00:20

I'd rather that than smell BO. Last heatwave on the tube I felt quite sick a few times when quite a few people had overwhelming BO during the morning & evening commute. .

Toneitdown · 24/08/2019 00:25

People don't need to do this. Use a stick or roll on. Problem solved.

DrCoconut · 24/08/2019 00:28

I was on a bus near Hexham a couple of weeks ago and someone started spraying deodorant. I hate it as many fragrances give me migraines and I didn't want a blinder when I was miles away from home with 2 DC. The bus driver asked him to stop and pointed out that it could cause serious problems for people with conditions that are triggered by sprays. I could have applauded quite happily.

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 24/08/2019 00:34

I'd rather smell deodorant than BO
I’d rather smell BO than end up in hospital

cakesandphotos · 24/08/2019 05:17

@DrCoconut obviously the bus driver was from Hexham if he was so considerate Grin

Durgasarrow · 24/08/2019 05:23

I can see spraying deodorant in a changing room at the pool (though not five seconds a pit, madame!!), but on public transportation???? That is bonkers.
