To be gutted the holidays are nearly over?

I love the school holidays. I love spending time with the kids. I save my annual leave and take most of it in the summer holidays and it’s so much fun all hanging out together without schedules, play dates, routines.

So many of my friends and people I follow on social media complain about the school holidays. They seem to wish them away.

I’m just sad about how quickly the holidays go and how quickly my kids are growing up. Soon we won’t spend holidays together. My eldest turned 13 and I can see their focus turning outwards towards friends already. This time last year seems so recent, time flies and that saddens me.

Does anyone else just love the kids being off school, love the lack of routine, the freedom to do what you want and not wish it away?

I’m sorry it’s nearly over, it’s flown by and I’d love another month, it’s been a tricky year and I’ve liked the change in routines. I feel a bit melancholy about autumn and winter this year for some reason.

I'm sorry its nearly over, I work part time (4 short days) and have had two weeks off when we have been away but would love to have had more days off work with them. Mine are old enough not to need childcare so although I still organise the odd sport or drama camp for them its much easier than when they were younger.

I feel the same.

The DCs have got on much better this year, although they do bicker at times it’s far less than in the past. We’ve kept busy going to parks and free things at local museums etc. I always plan a rough timetable before the kids break up and pencil in specific events, festivals etc and plan meet-ups with friends.

It’s helped with it being a pretty warm and dry summer too. Some evenings we’ve just spontaneously gone out to parks for a late picnic supper or chips by the sea and I know I’ll look back wistfully at that in a few weeks time when we’re stuck back in the rigid routine of after school clubs, homework etc.

I’m really not a morning person so it’s been heaven just lazing around in PJs until mid morning most days!

I’m in denial that return to school is anywhere near and putting sorting out uniforms etc until the last minute!
