Round here we have no public transport and taxis close up shop about 8/9pm. Most people I know will be a designated driver but often have a pint and then soft drinks. Some a bit more. Non off thier face drunk. I’m a fairly new driver so usually I’ll abstain or have a drink if I know it’s hours before I’m going to drink. What’s normal for you and your area?

Hubby does one drink and will drive but I won't drink at all. Usually he will drive to a venue and I'll drive home so he can fill his boots

Always used to have a pint and a half of shandy over three hours before I had a child. I now never do it as if I had an accident and something happened to him I would never forgive myself. I wont even move the car after any alcohol.

Pinkblanket · 25/08/2019 16:49

No, I never drink anything then drive. Lots of people I know will have one drink then drive. I wouldn't.

Not a chance. How is someone's life worth that little to someone that they would? Twats.

voddiekeepsmesane · 25/08/2019 17:08

I'm also in the camp of no drinking when driving. Grew up in NZ where drink driving was (is?) prevalent, and surprise, surprise the road death toll due to alcohol is very high. Life has more worth than some silly drink!!

drivingtofrance · 25/08/2019 17:31

Out of interest are all of the totally non drinking drivers younger?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 25/08/2019 17:34

No, not young but not ancient either Grin

It’s just not worth the risk. I don’t drink when in charge of children either.

I don’t get the over reliance on alcohol on nights out. There are millions of ways to have fun without it.

No we take turns who is driving who is drinking. Pre DS I would have half a beer with food and no more, now I don't even bother with that. DH used to run a drink driving course for people convicted, he can work out the units and approximately how long it would be before someone is legal to drive, and will often say they shouldn't drive before lunchtime tomorrow etc. His view is that it's not about what's legal it's what's safe, and whilst for most adult men (weight/metabolism combo) 2 pints over a couple of hours won't put them over the legal limit, it will impair their reaction speeds. So the only safe amount of alcohol before diving is none.

Ikeameatballs · 25/08/2019 18:27

I would have a small glass of wine if there were several hours between that sand driving ie 3 hours or more. Otherwise no.

stimulatemymind · 27/05/2020 13:49

No alcohol at all.

LittleCandle · 27/05/2020 13:53

Nope, and I found it rather odd last year in the US when I was being encouraged to have a couple of drinks before driving back to where we were staying. Pointing out that I was driving on the wrong side of the road in the dark, after almost no sleep because my body was confused by what time it was shut them up, but they couldn't believe I didn't want to indulge myself when the law was so much laxer.

Itoldyouiwasill · 27/05/2020 14:08

I don't drink a mouthful before driving
However I live semi rurally and know that many around here drink and drive ( no public transport or late taxis, even the road to the pub doesn't have a pavement)
I really think that people round here think it's highly unlikely they'll be caught and maybe think the law applies to only those in the town
