dh and I are having a dispute over which wash my lovely black and white top should go in.

Aibu to say b/w items go in with the light wash? probably a light wash consisting of dh’s white socks

I have had bad experiences so would not put in with white but wouldn't put in with black either 🙈

Windydaysuponus · 21/08/2019 14:48

Maybe hand-wash see how much black comes out before a machine wash!

MyCatHatesEverybody · 21/08/2019 14:49

Light wash. Presumably the dark bits on your top are colourfast and sticking in in with a load of darks is a bit risky.

Whoops75 · 21/08/2019 14:49

I would wash with either and use a color catch sheet.

Scentsandsensible · 21/08/2019 14:51

@dottyp0104 so where does it go 🤯

OP posts:
Ginmel · 21/08/2019 14:51

I would do exactly the same as @whoops

Creatureofthenight · 21/08/2019 14:51

I’d stick it in a dark wash with a colour catcher.

userabcname · 21/08/2019 14:52

Pfft everything just gets chucked in together in this household. I've never bothered with light/dark washes and have never had an issue.

frogsbreath · 21/08/2019 14:52

I save things like this up. Like white tops with dark patterns or a few dresses I have with white collars and cuffs and do together with a colour catcher sheet.

I ruined a black dress with white collar after washing it on its own and the black ran into the collar. Always use a collar catcher sheet now

SmartPlay · 21/08/2019 14:53

See, that's the problems you get, when you separate your laundry. I wash everything together, give a shit about colors ... makes life so much easier ;)

SandAndSea · 21/08/2019 14:53

I'd put it in with coloured things which I've had a while and don't expect to run.

Scentsandsensible · 21/08/2019 14:54

@smartplay - but.... it all goes grey

OP posts:
Byorderofthepeakyblinders · 21/08/2019 14:55

I put mine in with old coloured towels

GummyGoddess · 21/08/2019 14:56

Light wash, or the white bits will look dirty after a while.

Scentsandsensible · 21/08/2019 14:58

The introduction of washing with colours has added a whole new dimension to our argument. We may now band together and round on anyone who has made this suggestion Grin

But won't the white bits catch 'grey' from the black stripes anyway?

This problem is also solved by not having anything white. Far too much hassle.

anothernewone · 21/08/2019 15:01

We have a stripes/mixed colour block wash here 🙈 . 2 colour catchers to be safe.

Although I separate out blues/greens, pinks/reds and then yellows, as well as dark and whites

@flouncy see my reasoning is that I’ll put them in with dh’s socks and pants (not mine).

He has far too many so it may be a bit of a two birds one stone thing Grin

This. Although normally one colour catcher.

1forAll74 · 21/08/2019 15:15

Can't you just wash a top or jumper by hand, in some soapy warm water. Lots of things should not go in washing machines,as they don't need all that time being sloshed around for ages.

I don't ever remember having a washing machine discussion with anyone either, it must be very exciting.

AuditAngel · 21/08/2019 15:17

I would put it with the darks on the grounds only the white bits of that could get ruined, and probably would anyway, rather than risk all my lights.

I separate red/pink/purple/orange from lights and darks

Stampy84 · 21/08/2019 15:21

I’d put it on a cold wash

All depends on what material it is, and how expensive it was.
