dh and I are having a dispute over which wash my lovely black and white top should go in.

Aibu to say b/w items go in with the light wash? probably a light wash consisting of dh’s white socks

@1forAll74 lucky you! You obviously have never lived with someone who’s ruined all your white bras by sticking them in with brand new black jeans

is it mostly black or mostly white? Whichever colour there is most of,put it in with those.
Hand wash?Dry cleaners?

Only wash whites with 100% white items. If they're a mix of white and other colours, they can go in a lights wash.

Jux · 21/08/2019 15:53

I avoid white clothes completely as no matter how careful you are they all go grey eventually and that's really horrible. You can bleach them though or soak them for 3 days in Vanish before washing. But you can't do that when it's mixed with a colour, so the simple answer is DON'T BUY CLOTHES WITH WHITE ON THEM!

Unless it's a wedding dress, I suppose.

Wash it on its own with a colour catcher sheet and see what happens. Then you'll either have a lovely charcoal and grey dress or .....

If it’s black and white it will be colourfast, in with mixed load.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 21/08/2019 16:06

To be honest if it is its first wash I would put it in on its ow. Maybe for a few washes. With a colour catcher. Just to make sure the white doesn't go off colour.

I would not be putting it in a dark wash though.

Diagonalli · 21/08/2019 16:08

other black & white items or cream & light grey items

TroysMammy · 21/08/2019 16:13

I wash new dark clothes with other dark clothes that I know don't run and a cheap white flannel. However if the top is black and white I can't imagine the black would run into the white as the garment would be ruined.

Dark

Jux · 23/08/2019 00:15

Just make sure when you hang it out that you don't leave it to get darked on. And don't think about spider willies, as you can't stop them can you?
