Is this the new trend that I've heard about

Please tell me it's not. Dd did her best wtf confused and horrified face as did I. I'd heard things on here about a new trend for men involving too-short trousers and no socks but thought it was a big city thing. This was a small seaside town. Dd mainly baffled as the ankles looked rather feminine compared to the suit and beer belly and beard above them 🤣

Hand wringing?
Nope, threads weird, it just is.
I’d be really disappointed if my teenager took a pic of a stranger to make fun of their appearance. He wouldn’t though, as he’s not a twat.
And the person being unidentifiable doesn’t excuse the fact its just a nasty thing to do, the act of doing it at all is what people take issue with.

U2HasTheEdge · 20/08/2019 22:17

I love wearing ankle grazers with vans and white socks.

It's in poor taste to take a photo of someone for the purpose of laughing at them.

skybluee · 20/08/2019 22:17

I actually don't mind this trend. One I hated though (thankfully seems to have passed!) was PJ bottoms having elastic around the ankles. Horrible!

PicsInRed · 20/08/2019 22:20

They look like some sort of in-patient.

SummerInTheHamptons · 20/08/2019 22:25

Here come all the pearl clutchers. How dare you post a picture of a mans ankles, AGOG I tell you!

For what's its worth, can look good, can look terrible, depends on the wearer.

TheSultanofPingu · 20/08/2019 22:27

Rather unkind to take photos of random people in order to take the piss out of them.

EdWinchester · 20/08/2019 22:29

My 21 year old wears ankle grazers with white socks, or worse shorts with white socks up to his shins.

It’s a ‘look’ apparently. I realise how old I sound btw.

Owlypants · 20/08/2019 22:29

Maybe his budgie died? When i was in school trousers that were too short were known as budgied.

TheSultanofPingu · 20/08/2019 22:29

Oh yes I was clutching my pearls very tightly as I typed.

CrispSandwiches19 · 20/08/2019 22:31

I went to a posh wedding last year and all the men Inc the groomsmen wore their suit trousers like this, no socks and leather shoes.

StoneofDestiny · 20/08/2019 22:31

First saw this in LA about 8 years ago. Seen it migrate here quite a few years ago.

SteveHarringtonsHair · 20/08/2019 22:32

This place gets worse.
I’ve been here on and off for 20 years and have found it at times to be supportive, hilarious and heartbreaking in equal measures.
Posting a photo of some random person just so you can mock them is frankly, despicable.
It has nothing to do with clutching pearls.
This is something that schools are desperately trying to stamp out ffs.

DCITennison · 20/08/2019 22:34

Clutching my pearls and wringing my hands simultaneously is a talent of mine.

peanutbutterkid · 20/08/2019 22:35

I approve. Men should be allowed to bare skin as much as women are expected to and take for granted to keep cool.

Swellerellamoo · 20/08/2019 22:36

Please don't post pictures taken of people without consent and post online. Really shoddy behaviour.

PencilSkirt · 20/08/2019 22:38

I pity those who are dismissing objections as pearl clutching, I really do.

I despise the trend of photographing people in order to point and laugh. Grim.

It doesn't matter that head is cropped, you've violated him.

yellowallpaper · 20/08/2019 22:47

Definitely a young, fit bloke thing.

WorraLiberty · 20/08/2019 22:55

Me too. It makes me wonder how they'd react if that was their child being taken the piss out of, or if their child was doing the piss taking.

Hopefully 'pearl clutching' wouldn't come into it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 20/08/2019 22:58

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the photo I do wonder how those shoes smell without socks when they are tight leather with no breathable bits.

Pieceofpurplesky · 20/08/2019 22:59

As in generally not just the picture

OwlBeThere · 20/08/2019 22:59

@PicsinRed...........what a digusting thing to say.

also, just FYI for the those not getting itits not the point if its 'just' his ankles. it matters not if its identifying, its mean-spirited and cruel. imagine how YOU'D feel if someone was posting pictures of you online to laugh at you for any reason. its not ok. we talk to our children about bullying, but when its adults doing it, then anyone who objects is 'pearl clutching' or whatever.

Beamur · 20/08/2019 23:02

I'd read this as light hearted but can see it has a meanness to it.
It's not cool to mock someone who isn't in on the joke.

Ravenblack · 20/08/2019 23:03

This is NOT a new trend, and if men want to dress like this, so what?

I echo what many posters have said on here; taking a photo of someone and posting it on the internet to mock and laugh at that person is childish and mean. This is the kind of year 8 behaviour that you would expect from 12 year olds.

And people saying about posters 'hand-wringing' and 'pearl clutching' can stick their comments where the sun don't shine. I am SICK of people saying that when people say they are angry or pissed off about something.

The fact so many people think it's nasty speaks volumes.

@DtPeabodysLoosePants ask for this thread to be deleted. It's mean and spiteful.
