Is this the new trend that I've heard about

Please tell me it's not. Dd did her best wtf confused and horrified face as did I. I'd heard things on here about a new trend for men involving too-short trousers and no socks but thought it was a big city thing. This was a small seaside town. Dd mainly baffled as the ankles looked rather feminine compared to the suit and beer belly and beard above them 🤣

Is this the new trend that I've heard about
OP posts:

Fashion is one area where I actually feel quite sorry for men. Their offering is mostly so boring and yet when something a bit different and less traditional is fashionable there's so much scorn.

Wearing socks without trousers is hardly radical. It's akin to the trend for women to wear trainers with skirts. Some people like it, some don't, but for women it's seen as a viable fashion choice. Whereas a man interested in fashion is seen as a bit of a joke

ShirleyPhallus · 20/08/2019 21:47

@CruellaFeinberg because it’s gross if the OP took a pic of an unsuspecting member of the public just to put on the intranet and laugh at someone

Different if it’s from a fashion shoot page or someone lifestyle page or something

LuluBellaBlue · 20/08/2019 21:47

When did the world become so judgemental- surely people can wear what they like, the way they like without people taking photos and slating them on a public forum?

Imagine if you’d worn that outfit or similar today how you’d feel reading this and wondering if anyone took photos / mocked you?

I just don’t understand what drives people to be so nasty......

InsertFunnyUsername · 20/08/2019 21:48

Aww I must be growing up because all I can think of is a poor sod on his way to work, maybe feeling good about himself not knowing people are taking pictures of his feet to laugh at. Makes me sad.

I am pregnant though

PencilSkirt · 20/08/2019 21:48

CruellaFeinberg It matters because it's bloody rude. There may be no identifying features, but taking a picture of somebody without their permission and posting it on the internet is juvenile and unwarranted. Wy anybody is so bothered by other people's sartorial choices is beyond me. You're not obliged to look at ths man's ankles.

InsertFunnyUsername · 20/08/2019 21:49

But I do not like this flashing ankle trend!

GreyGardens88 · 20/08/2019 21:51

Let's post a picture of a woman in equally silly clothes or make up (many around) and let's see what the response would be? Sexist thread

Oliversmumsarmy · 20/08/2019 21:57

DD is in her elements as this fashion is what she looks like in long length trousers bought in this country

WorraLiberty · 20/08/2019 22:00

Mean spirited post and a bit weird if you took that photo yourself.

PurpleTreeFrog · 20/08/2019 22:01

I watched an episode of this really tacky Netflix show called the Hotter Half where a couple goes on and members of the public vote on who is the hottest. The loser gets a makeover. One of them was a bloke and the 'style gurus' on the show gave him a makeover and in the 'after' shots it showed a close up of his feet - socks no shoes! Tsk.

EL8888 · 20/08/2019 22:02

Yeah it’s a thing and it cracks me up! The super tight trousers and no socks are odd. It makes me feel old!

DCITennison · 20/08/2019 22:02

I just think it’s small-minded, rude and cruel to take a picture of someone on the street in order to make fun of them on the internet.

Would have thought that’d be the standard opinion really.

I’m glad I live somewhere that is full of all sorts of styles and looks, sniggering about ankle grazers and no socks is a bit cringe and backwards imo.

LittleAndOften · 20/08/2019 22:02

I'm not a fan of the Hugh Hefner slipper myself. But most fashion is daft - look at the slipons and white towelling socks of the 80s!

Sickoffamilydrama · 20/08/2019 22:02

It's been fairly warm here, women can wear skirts/cropped trousers to work but there's very few smart options for men.

I personally think this look can very stylish and attractive see image attached.

Is this the new trend that I've heard about
BeneathTheMist · 20/08/2019 22:04

Mr B, always ahead, sported this look in his last official photoshoot Sad consequenceofsound.net/2016/01/david-bowies-final-photographs/

PancakeAndKeith · 20/08/2019 22:05

There is a lot of it around here.

Beamur · 20/08/2019 22:06

DSS has been doing this for years. He has a particular hipster look his sister describes as 'hobo-chic'. I don't think she means it as a compliment Grin

moonpiggle · 20/08/2019 22:06

I think its quite narrow minded to make negative comments on how people dress especially if your opinion wasnt asked for. Like who really cares. Wear what the hell you like.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/08/2019 22:07

Trousers need to be tighter. I like the look but agree it has been around for quite a while.

Is this the new trend that I've heard about
Mummyoflittledragon · 20/08/2019 22:08

Oops I meant to say, is that this guys hair? Been trying to work it out.

taytosandwich · 20/08/2019 22:08

All the hand wringing about a picture of someone's ankles Confused

WorraLiberty · 20/08/2019 22:10

It's not 'hand wringing' to point out this thread is nasty and a bit weird.

Especially the comment about the guy's belly, even if we can't see it.

sonjadog · 20/08/2019 22:10

I live in the place that style forgot and even here this has been around for a few years.

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 20/08/2019 22:14

Well done on raising such a kind daughter.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 20/08/2019 22:14

It's a pretty standard posh-bloke/Sloane look round here and has been for ages. Deck shoes with no socks is another variation seen on the same sort of people.
