Heavy period at a festival...

OoohMasala · 20/08/2019 16:43

Nearly 10 months after having a baby. Periods returned straight away and unlike any I've ever had before. Bad bad PMS and as heavy as when I had lochia. I feel disgusting a lot of the time and have on occasion bought disposable pants as tampons and sanitary towels don't last more than 30 mins in the first few days.

Feel stupid as a 27 year old woman asking for period advice, but can anyone advise on how I can enjoy this festival without it being ruined by my hellish period?

Mooncup

TigerCameForTea · 20/08/2019 16:54

Can you ask your GP for something to make it not come? I'm sure there's a tablet you can take to delay it? Or don't take a pill break if you're on it?

Sycamoretrees · 20/08/2019 16:54

Can you see your doctor? You can be prescribed tablets to reduce the flow.

Invisimamma · 20/08/2019 16:55

Are you there now or is it a festival in the future?

If it's in future there's a pill you can take to delay your period. Available from your gp and over the counter / online. I have used it for holidays.

maltesersgalore · 20/08/2019 16:58

Go to your GP and ask for norehisterone which will stop/delay it. Some folk experience side effects but neither of my dd's did and why've taken it a few times each (DofE, festivals, holidays etc).
Enjoy the festival!

Norethisterone - can order online from reputable pharmacies (Boots, Superdrug) or ask GP to prescribe. It works brilliantly - just start taking it three days before you’re due and continue for duration of holiday.

stucknoue · 20/08/2019 17:03

You can take medication to delay your period. Other women here have said when they switch to moon cups they have lighter flow. I highly recommend modibodi heavy flow in addition to super plus tampons or mooncup (a pad as well if desired) for heavy days

LucyFox · 20/08/2019 17:03

Tena lady pants (or supermarket equivalent) are fabulous for very heavy flow esp when facilities are limited...

detectivebird · 20/08/2019 17:08

i’ve used the period delaying tablets before and they really didn’t agree with me - they mucked up my skin, made me bloat enormously etc. so a word of warning if you’re planning to take those for the first time Smile

otherwise, i find the extra long reusable towels are excellent for heavy periods.

OoohMasala · 20/08/2019 17:13

I should've said. I've tried norethisterone and vowed never to take it ever again. It resulted in 3 weeks of PMS and quite a scary angry feeling. Mentally messed me up a bit

A Ruby cup or similar. Lasts much longer than tampax and can be emptied in portaloo then rinsed with water from a bottle.

Knackeredmommy · 20/08/2019 17:15

Boots sell tablets that reduce flow. They work for me. I can't remember the name now

QuestionableMouse · 20/08/2019 17:25

@Knackeredmommy

norethisterone, which the op says she can't tolerate.

OoohMasala · 20/08/2019 17:32

I'm leaving tomorrow but might buy a mooncup in the morning and give it a go...

Abouttime1978 · 20/08/2019 17:33

Period pants? Although if you are leaving tomorrow I'm not sure where you would get some.

Yabbers · 20/08/2019 17:41

Go to the GP and ask for tranexamic acid. It can really help.

HerculesMulligan · 20/08/2019 17:43

I'd get Tenapants that you can just bin.

NeverSayFreelance · 20/08/2019 17:43

I can't spell it but transxecamic acid and prescription strength Naproxen.

Knackeredmommy · 20/08/2019 17:44

@QuestionableMouse No it's cyklo-f I think. It doesn't stop period it reduces flow.

Likethebattle · 20/08/2019 17:48

Maximum dosage of ibuprofen can lessen the flow.

Teateaandmoretea · 20/08/2019 17:54

I'm really not convinced that a mooncup is the answer. I have and use one by the way, I would not take it to a festival and empty it in a portaloo. If you accidentally dropped it 😳 and you need to clean it, the suggestion of bottled water wouldn't do it for me. But we are all different.

Have you gone as high as lillets ultra? Honestly one of those holds not that much less than a mooncup. And take nurofen to reduce the flow a bit.

detectivebird · 20/08/2019 17:58

snap @OoohMasala!

RavenLG · 20/08/2019 17:58

I have a mom cup and I’m not precious about it either, but I couldn’t do that at a festival. I’ve just got back from one, they actually have brilliant portaloos (didn’t see a full one all weekend) but I couldn’t change it in a portaloo. They’re grim and no room to have things like bottle water / tissues on the go.
Highest absorbency tampon with period pants as a back up? Failing that lots of black clothes and a bottle of vodka, you’ll forget all about it Grin
Seriously though hope you cope!

gingerginger2 · 20/08/2019 18:03

I really wouldn’t make a festival the first time you use a moon cup.

As much as i’d Totally agree that a mooncup definitely makes periods easier to handle, and I’ve personally used a mooncup for nearly 20 years and use it at festivals all the time.

But I know many people say it takes them a little while to get used to putting it in and taking it out. You might want a period or two practising in the shower and your own bathroom before you feel confident in portaloos.

Wouldn’t want you to have a bad experience at the festival and then write off mooncups consequently!

Hi.

I am 19 year old female.

Advice needed. I am stressing and worrying my self over this

I took norethisterone in July for just under 3 weeks ( doctor prescribed ) to stop period for my holiday. I stopped taking the tablet once home and started period about 3 days later ( on 5 th August ) it was painful but not that heavy kind of just as usual. It lasted for approx 5/6 days

Now I haven’t had a period since 5th - 11th august (3 month) Is this due to the tablet messing up my cycle or should I be worried ?
I also am very stressed with university work so this could be having a impact ?

Thanks in advance smile
