Nursery breakfast

Do I need to unclench? Dropped lo off for breakfast. They had one box of chocolate hoop cereal out. He goes three times a week. Each morning it's a chocolate based breakfast. At home he always has bran flakes, porridge ext with fruit. I'd rather just give him eggs but he has an allergy. It just doesn't sit right with me. But then I think it's only 3 days a week Confused

DD nursery does fruit, toast, porridge, eggs and cereal for breakfast. I don’t do chocolate cereals so I would probably politely ask they give her toast instead.

@MinisterforCheekyFuckery the poster you’re quoting has said numerous pretty stupid things on this thread. She’s either goady...or just stupid.

@PlainJane64 and @TeacherDeFML
I don't think it's really about being 'precious',. It's about making good food choices!! I was never allowed to eat chocolate cereals in the morning and quite frankly if I did it it makes me feel horrible! Not a great way to start off the day...
There's so many other choices that you can make.

Closetbeanmuncher · 21/08/2019 20:26

Is hardly a bowl of lard now is it???

That being said a choice should be offered.

Moominfan · 22/08/2019 07:12

Well spoke to nursery. No chocolate cereals moving forward

Well done op. As much as I like to think I’m pretty chilled out about most things, chocolate cereal at nursery is not one of them! I would do the same.

Toneitdown · 22/08/2019 09:40

Generally I have a don't sweat the small stuff policy, but I am quite surprised by this. I thought that nurseries were much more clued up about nutrition these days, especially with obesity being such a huge problem.

Glad you've sorted it OP!

Thehop · 22/08/2019 09:42

That’s really crappy.

We have porridge sometimes, fruit and cheese always with whole grain cereals. No sugar and definitely no chocolate! That’s terrible!

Moominfan · 22/08/2019 18:43

Thank you, i made it into such a big thing but his key workers really approachable. I am genuinely easy going but it just seemed such a poor choice

God i am the least arsed parent going and I wouldn’t like this.

Indie139 · 23/08/2019 07:25

Speak to them. At my nursery we only serve rice krispies, cornflakes, branflakes cheerios and weetabix. One time coco pops was accidentally ordered and someone put it out at breakfast. Parent saw it and complained..has never happened again. I agree i dont think they should have any chocolate cereals or anything high in sugar

Lowlandlucky · 23/08/2019 08:07

I dont know how on earth my 3 have survived into their late 20s and early 30s as they had Lucky charms, frosties , sugar puffs and coco pops for breakfast twice a week, not one of them has a single filling in their teeth, all are skinny as hell and other than chicken pox when they were little, have ever had a day off school or work through illness. P.S they even had the occasional bottle of SunnyD

Wildorchidz · 23/08/2019 08:35

Well aren’t they lucky @lowandlucky.

Given their ages they grew up without being stuck to a screen all day so presumably had a much less sedentary lifestyle as children than many children do now so ran off all the sugary crap.
It would be interesting to see what their views would be on giving their own children the same foods they ate !

Lowlandlucky · 23/08/2019 09:28

DGd is allowed choclate cereal at the weekends just like her Mum was, she is allowed fizzy pop on special occasions but chooses to drink water just ike her Mum. It is about a balanced diet not abbout banning certain foods, you have to teach them to choose or come the teenage years when you dont have 100% cotrol over them they wont have a clue how to choose a healthy diet and they will follow their nose to McDonalds every day whilst at college
