Hi all. Not really an aibu but hoping to find out what others spend.

Family of four and a dog. Two adults, two children and the dog.

We spend around £80-90 on a large shop and maybe a top up later in the week.

I get my shopping delivered with Tesco because they offer the best service.

Mil thinks this is too much and joked around that we should go on Eat Well For Less. She keeps saying that I have to shop at Lidl to save money. The nearest stores are a 30 minute drive away (live in the middle of nowhere) and I order to get my shopping delivered. I hate shopping and I have two DC with additional needs that also hate shopping.

I don’t think we over eat or anything. We don’t buy anything overly expensive or branded but we don’t use budget ranges either.

Is £80-£90 really that excessive? With the top up we may spend around £100-£110 a week?

What do other familes of four spend?

I’ve tried cutting down but we ended up not having enough for and needing to do another bit shop.

The summer holidays have also increased the spend slightly! £££

Two adults, two teenage boys and three cats

We do a big shop of about £120 once a month, then weekly top-ups that are about £40-£60 depending on meal plans etc. We meal plan dinners weekly and buy general stuff for lunches/breakfasts etc. We do eat leftovers which keeps costs down a bit.

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 19/08/2019 21:18

I wouldn't say thats overly excessive. We do a mixture of shopping at Aldi and Tesco and spend roughly £80 per week for a family of 3.

ChocolateTea · 19/08/2019 21:20

Sounds similar to us. Our main shop is delivered weekly and between £60-80, and we probably spend another £30 during the week on bread and milk and sandwich items. 2 adults, 1 teen, 1 preteen, 2 cats

KatyN · 19/08/2019 21:20

We spend the same. We could (as I expect you could) save money going to Aldi/Lidl but I would rather pay more for delivery.
It’s not always about the cash

supermum85 · 19/08/2019 21:22

Spent an usually low 70 today for 2 adults 2 kids..but normally it's about 90 and a top up too.

rupertpenryswife · 19/08/2019 21:25

Same family set up plus 2 cats we spend about the same give or take, the problem with Lidl for me apart from not delivering, is I can't always get what I need, this means I need to go elsewhere and often spend more than I intended.

Youngandfree · 19/08/2019 21:25

I budget for €60-80 including top ups. For a family of 4. That includes lunch items as my kids have packed lunches. And also included household items like toilet paper etc.

whattodowith · 19/08/2019 21:26

Two adults, three children and a baby. Spend around £80 a week in aldi and only have to go for top ups occasionally, usually milk or something we forgot.

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 19/08/2019 21:27

I always find that if I do an online shop and get it delivered I spend less than if I go to the shop, always seem to buy random stuff I don't need (and more unhealthy) stuff if in the shops, but would never think to loom for it online, so I probably would be cheaper if I done my shop online each week!

Sunshine1239 · 19/08/2019 21:27

I shop Aldi and b&ms for tins etc

£110 family of four inc dog. And that’s really watching what I buy

No idea what others buy to do less than that!

Sunshine1239 · 19/08/2019 21:28

Per week

gingajewel · 19/08/2019 21:28

Two adults, two children and spend about £80.00 a week in Aldi.

Rainatnight · 19/08/2019 21:29

We spend about the same.

It’s none of her business.

Benjispruce · 19/08/2019 21:29

Sounds reasonable op. I’m a family of 4- DC 18&15 and a dog. Shop at Aldi for between £70 and £80 pw. Might pop out for £10 extra in week but not needed just maybe extra treat or wine at weekend.

Ithinkmycatisevil · 19/08/2019 21:30

£70-80 per week. I shop in Lidl for two adults, one teen and one pre teen (both adult sized).

Ithinkmycatisevil · 19/08/2019 21:30

Oh and two dogs and a cat.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 19/08/2019 21:31

Family of 6 here (but 2 are small) and spend £120 odd, that includes toiletries and cleaning stuff but not nappies as we use reusables. When I'm back at work from maternity leave that will go up with more convenience buying, less cooking from scratch and less shopping around.

I think your total is reasonable.

firstimemamma · 19/08/2019 21:31

Family of 3 - 2 adults and a one year old.

Total weekly food spend £60 (£45 Sainsbury's and £15 green grocers).

This doesn't include cleaning products, just food and drink. Doesn't include milk as we use milk and more deliveries.

I do a weekly meal plan and the baby mainly eats what we eat.

OhHelpx · 19/08/2019 21:32

It’s just me and 2 children and I budget £40 a week with maybe £10 of random extras in the week too

Didntwanttochangemyname · 19/08/2019 21:33

We are family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children and a dog). Get a tesco delivery once a week, usually around £110, no top ups.
I tried the whole 'shopping around at Aldi/lidl but frankly I enjoy my life too much to waste it roaming supermarkets searching for food!
Also, we are about 40 mins away from all supermarkets so with tesco delivery saver I actually save a fortune in fuel!

Rainbowknickers · 19/08/2019 21:34

We spend around £120 at Aldi every other Friday
Then maybe £50 at Asda/Tesco
A lot more if we have friends or family visiting-can go up to £200 a fortnight
Normally it’s two adults one child but can be as any as 8/9 of us as we have 8 kids between us and in laws

CottonSock · 19/08/2019 21:34

I spend at least that, and enjoy eating well. If you can afford it what has it got to do with her!

KB197 · 19/08/2019 21:35

I spend less doing my shopping online MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday

When I used to shop in store I would pick up things that I didn’t really need spending much more 🤣

mouse26 · 19/08/2019 21:35

I do 90 - 100 at asda plus top ups up to 20 per week, 2 adults, 2 kids, 4 cats. It used to be cheaper at aldi but dp recently became vegan, me and ds2 are vegetarian and the range is much better at asda

Nogoodusername · 19/08/2019 21:36

2 adults, 2 DC and 2 cats: Morrisons shop of about £120-150, probably another £50 worth of top ups. So between £180-200 weekly total
