Hi newbie here so hello 🤦‍♂️

I've recently moved into a lovely detached property but I've noticed a very low level humming sound in the mornings. I'm a very light sleeper so if I wake up I struggle get back to sleep because of this. It sounds like an electrical hum if that makes sense. Or if you lived in a semi and your neighbour was hoovering kinda thing. Wearing earplugs makes it worse as it intensifies the sound. I've tried turning off the boiler and killed the main fuse switch but it's still there! Any ideas? X

I suffer from this same thing. Try reading this. healthunlocked.com/livingwithanxiety/posts/131426051/internal-shaking-or-vibration-when-waking

Some people near me can hear the hum of wind turbines, have you got any near you? The sound can travel miles if the wind direction is right.

Do you have solar panels? Ours have a little hum to themselves sometimes

OP I was so relieved when I found out about the Hum!

I also had trouble when the flats opposite had a pigeon scarer thingy but it was quite funny because the management company had half of us complaining about the noise and the other half saying "what noise?"

Are you in the west country?? Sounds like The Hum. We get it some evenings (Wiltshire) around 10pm to midnight. Sounds like a car engine idling. My OH thought he was hearing loud farm machinery when I could hear nothing. Sometimes we both hear it - usually in the house but sometimes just outside to. Learned to ignore it now!

bluebeck · 19/08/2019 12:09

Can other people who visit your house hear it OP?

BlackCatSleeping · 19/08/2019 12:13

Is your neighbor having a morning wank with her vibrator?

Dec2019mumtobe · 19/08/2019 13:02

As you live fairly rurally, I wonder if it's some farm machinery somewhere?

I used to love staying at a relative’s farm, the sound of the cows being milked (the separator?) was very soothing. Early morning and before teatime.
