To think Peaky Blinders is shite but Cillian Murphy is a God

Late to the Peaky Blinders party but everyone raves about it.

It’s shite, slow and could be over in half the time.

But the music is good and Cillian Murphy is mesmerising.

How can a man be that attractive?

Adrian Brody was so embarrassingly awful in it! WTF was he thinking!?

It's not a massively over-acted style of show and he came in hamming it up like a De Niro pastiche. He ruined it for me the whole time he was in it.

Mileysmiley · 19/08/2019 07:47

He is not my type and I am half Irish.

To think Peaky Blinders is shite but Cillian Murphy is a God
Mileysmiley · 19/08/2019 07:51

Here he is singing

MaxNormal · 19/08/2019 07:54

I was first! I was obsessed with 28 Days Later years ago when it came out. You get to see his knob!

Mileysmiley · 19/08/2019 07:55

@MaxNormal

Why would you want to see it??

Silvercatowner · 19/08/2019 07:58

I've never seen Peaky Blinders but was in the hairdressers last year and a four year old came in with his mum. The four year old explained to the hairdresser that he wanted a 'Peaky Blinders haircut'. It sounded odd and weird and put me off it. Should I give it a try? What is it about?

AudacityOfHope · 19/08/2019 07:58

Well @Mileysmiley did you see the size of his shoes!? GrinWink

GivemeGinandTonic · 19/08/2019 07:59

Oh my is there anything that man can’t do! Voice is beautiful on that track. Adored him since Peaky Blinders, watched some old films he was in also - he is an exceptional actor. His 6 music shows just took him to a new level in my eyes, amazing and varied music taste, a thoroughly enjoyable relaxing show.

Glasscrab · 19/08/2019 08:00

He’s incredibly odd-looking in the flesh, though I think he’s a brilliant stage actor.

I only watched the last season of PB and thought it was hilariously bad. Every time they stormed though a dramatically-lit foundry in their (presumably deliberately?) too-small coats with their hands in ‘about to draw’ position, DH nearly fell off the sofa laughing, whereas I spent the whole time mesmerised by Aidan Gillen’s wig (at least, I hope it’s a wig) and Luca Changretta’s accent.

nordstrom · 19/08/2019 08:02

Never seen PB, but Cillian Murphy gives me the heebie jeebies.

Mileysmiley · 19/08/2019 08:07

Just look how immaculate the suits are?

Iamblossom · 19/08/2019 08:13

Nope CM is just not my type AT ALL!

I have brought the first 4 series of Peaky Blinders away with us on holiday for DH and I to try to watch but it is still in its cellophane wrapper.

helloisitmeyourelookingfor · 19/08/2019 08:17

To be fair on the accent front, linguistically the Birmingham and Liverpool accents are very similar.

Also the actor that plays Finn is local and doesn't have the stereotypical Birmingham accent that only actually exists in a very small geographical area anyway

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 19/08/2019 08:18

Nope CM is just not my type AT ALL!

He gives me the creeps a bit, but to give him his credit, he does play the lead role exceptionally well. Just the right amount of menace in those eyes.

Vinosaurus · 19/08/2019 08:22

He looks other worldly - I used to think I really didn't find him attractive but have done a complete 180 and now think that he is indeed a god.

He does a 6 music show every now and again - should give it a listen.

Never got into Peaky Blinders (DH loves it so have tried).

notso · 19/08/2019 08:44

Peaky Blinders is too dark, as in the need to put big light on.
Cillian Murphy is too beautiful, he looks like an angelic choir boy. Lovely but not fanciable.

AudacityOfHope · 19/08/2019 08:46

That's why he's compellingly shaggable as a murderous bastard though @notso Wink

Fizzypoo · 19/08/2019 08:53

I only like him as Thomas shelby. In any other role he doesn't do it for me. I watch it for the fanny shivers Blush

tisonlymeagain · 19/08/2019 08:57

I'm a local - the accents don't grate on me too much. The accent in Birmingham has changed a lot over the years. A lot of people moved into Birmingham around the time of the industrial revolution from all over the place so the accent was very muddled. I've also heard that it was a bit different to what we know as Brummy today.

VirginiaWolfHall · 19/08/2019 09:04

I fancy him in PB but he’s too short for me to in RL it just wouldn’t work. Shame. Grin

VirginiaWolfHall · 19/08/2019 09:05

*So not to

LakieLady · 19/08/2019 09:06

He is to die for, and PB is brilliant. I like the slowness of it, I think that's one of the things that give it so much atmosphere.

I'm binge (re)watching earlier series before it starts again.

mrspotatohed · 19/08/2019 09:10

@MaxNormal 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ChristineBaskets · 19/08/2019 09:33

Re; the accents. They sound exactly as the show makers intend them to, nobody is getting them wrong or doing a bad job. Research was done on how people in the area sounded at the time, which was quite different to now, and the actors are reflecting that.

I found the accents off putting at first, being from the Black Country myself, but once I learned they were deliberate and accurate for the time I began to accept them and enjoy the program. I still don't fancy CM though, but he's a fantastic actor.

Mileysmiley · 19/08/2019 09:37

I have lost some of my Brummie accent but even I find some of the black country accents hard to understand.

As for Geordie .... no chance!
