To carry on losing weight?

Fat2fit · 18/08/2019 12:24

I've lost 7st in the last year. My BMI was over 40, I have to lose a few more pounds to be 'normal' BMI. However I would like to lose another stone if I can.

I feel like once I stop losing week on week that will be my natural weight. Also i still feel a bit heavy/ have noticeable flab etc.

Another factor is that I've always wanted a bloke to be able to pick me up and carry me Blush and I think i need to be under 10st for that (I'm just over 11st currently).

So AIBU?

No yanbu, as long as your BMI is still in the normal range keep going until you feel happy. If your frame is slight or medium, upper end of normal BMI can still be a bit heavy for some people.

helpmum2003 · 18/08/2019 12:31

Keep on going as long as your BMI is in the normal range. Well done!!

TregunaMekoides · 18/08/2019 12:32

YANBU at all. Better to be comfortably within BMI that just within. See how you feel with another stone. Can always stop if you don't like how you look. If you don't mind me asking, how have you done it?

please say magic pill please say magic pill

Unless you are over 6ft tall, of course it wouldn’t be unreasonable to lose another stone if you want to.

Fat2fit · 18/08/2019 12:34

I meant to add in my OP that I've got everyone around me telling me to stop losing weight and that I'm getting too thin - I'm really not!

Congratulations, that's fantastic.
I feel like once I stop losing weight week on week that will be my natural weight
What do you mean by that? If you stop losing weight it just means that you're eating the number of calories you need to maintain at that weight.
I would focus on your fitness at this point. If you have noticeable flab then you probably still have a high body fat %, with the risk of dangerous visceral fat. You should really measure your waist to make sure it's in the 'safe zone' firstly, before you decide you want to losemore. Remember the BMI is just a range, the mid point is generally recommended as ideal, unless you are particularly athletic with noticeable muscles.

Fat2fit · 18/08/2019 12:36

I'm 5ft 6.

I've done it through Slimming world althpugh I have also largely goven up alcohol except on special occasions. I also try to be gluten free as I am a bit intolerant. I go to the gym 4x a week and do lots of cardio

People are used to the larger you. It will take them a while to get used to slim you.

Keep going as long as you are healthy and happy.

TregunaMekoides · 18/08/2019 12:40

Well done you that's fab 👏👏
I am currently dithering around with SW but can't quite find the wherewithal to stick to it. I've got a couple of stone to lose. I don't drink and am pretty active so it's just food that's the problem.
Have you lost consistently or have you had false starts/bad weeks etc?

Fat2fit · 18/08/2019 12:42

What's the safe zone for my waist measurenent? Is that where it should be half my height or less (or something like that)

ShastaBeast · 18/08/2019 12:44

I got my BMI down to 21.5 and still want to carry on - a few things (holiday most recently) have bounced my weight back up before getting back down so I’ve not managed it yet. I have a smaller frame so don’t carry it well. I’m aiming for BMI of 20 ish. Top end of healthy was much too big for me.

feelingverylazytoday · 18/08/2019 12:51

Fat2Fit yes, it should be half your height or less. Though the NHS is now advising that all women should try to lose weight if their waist is over 31.5" . 34" puts you in the high risk category

Jaffacakebeast · 18/08/2019 12:51

Well done!! If you want to carry on then carry on 👍🏻👍🏻 I’d recommend weigh training rather than cardio to tone up and lower body fat %

HaileySherman · 18/08/2019 13:04

Yanbu at all! Carry on until YOU have met YOUR goals. Never mind anyone else's opinion. You're an inspiration to me, btw. You've accomplished quite a bit. It'd be a shame to stop before reaching your goals.

QuimReaper · 18/08/2019 13:05

Of course that's not unreasonable Confused If your BMI is still in the overweight category it's very sensible actually. Obviously the reason there's a whole scale of "healthy" weights for your height is to account for individual weight distribution, muscle mass etc., so you're the best judge of when you're "there".

People are odd about other people losing weight. I haven't really encountered it myself but I know other people who have. It's because the vast majority of people are overweight nowadays, or at least want to lose some, so seeing someone else achieving it can make them defensive about their own failures. You do need to just ignore them.

You've done amazingly by the way, well done Smile

PuffHuffle5 · 18/08/2019 13:09

I’m a size 8 and happy with how I look - my DH is quite fit and does quite a physical job but hurt his back once trying to lift me, so not sure I would use it as a target Grin I think as long as you’re a healthy BMI keep going. Well done so far!

Oysterbabe · 18/08/2019 13:11

Yanbu. I've recently lost 3st and my BMI is just in the healthy range. I'm definitely still overweight. BMI is a wide bracket and some small build people, like me, will still be overweight at the top end of it.

Fat2fit · 18/08/2019 16:43

I blame watching too many rom com's on my desire to literally leap into a mans arms Grin I mean its not exactly criteria for a potential partner but I've always thought it would be nice!

My waist is 31 at the moment. So I know I could do with losing a little more.

Loopytiles · 18/08/2019 16:46

YANBU, except on wanting a man to be able to carry you, which is a silly reason to want to be thinner!

Not at all U to want BMI to be, say, 23 rather than 25 or just under.

Thistle23 · 18/08/2019 17:20

my DH managed to lift me when I was at my heaviest , 5ft 5 and just under 13 stone , just depends on the guy.

CottonSock · 18/08/2019 17:22

Well done, keep going but allow yourself holidays etc otherwise what's the point

EmmiJay · 18/08/2019 17:37

Can I just say, I laughed at the 'having a man lift you'. Its funny because I'm the same way except as my weight increases I just go for more burly muscley men who can handle the load🤣

EmmiJay · 18/08/2019 17:37

Also congrats on the weight loss! Inspiring stuff x

bambalaya · 18/08/2019 18:07

What a fantastic achievement. You should be so proud of yourself.

CalmdownJanet · 18/08/2019 18:18

I have this at the moment as I have lost weight, though not near as much as you. Like you though I need a bit more for a healthier bmi, about a stone, less really but a stone for comfort & wiggle room.

I was complaining to another friend who lost weight and kept it off that people are starting to say enough is enough or spoon head Confused. Anyway, she asked me I noticed that the people who were saying it were either over weight themselves or struggled with yo yo weight, and actually when she said that I realised it was true, not one slim person had a negative thing to say. Strange that none of those pass remarkable people were there when I was putting in the weight, where was there concern for me then Hmm
