Mine is generally good and well-meaning, and would like to think he was protecting me from the regime's worst excesses.

In practice though, I sense he might become complacent in the role, and I would resent the shit out of him as a result. And the inability to check his occasional stupidities would grate to high heaven...

DH has been married before but I haven’t- I think in Gilead’s eyes i’d still be an adulteress....? Not had children so likely colonies for me.

I think my DH would be a mid ranking commander and probably do an acceptable job in order to keep us out of trouble. Hopefully that'll be freeing my time up to be having illicit trysts with his hot driver called Nick. Mmmmm Nick.

DH isn't a citizen here and our son has dual nationality. I think we would have cut and run early, but if not we'd be a straight Emily and Sylvia. I would like to think I'd go full Moira but fear it would be closer to full Janine.

I have family who died in Nazi concentration camps and have been aware since I was a child, that things can change in a country from being safe to being very unsafe. So I suspect I would have fled at a point when others would be saying I was being over cautious. DP would come with me.
If we hadn't managed to flee, we would both be on the wall as we are both active trade unionists. If somehow we managed to avoid that fate, I think we would both keep our head down and just try and get through. No regime lasts for ever, so we would just be trying to live for long enough that we can get out of it. DP though would have a hard time pretending to be in charge of me. He doesn't like responsibility. I am a carer for a relative with schizophrenia who would be on the wall.

I don't believe for a moment though that all these DPs would be in the resistance. When things like this happen a tiny minority actually join any resistance. I once saw an interview with someone who was in the French resistance who said that if the amount of elderly French people who now claim to have been in the resistance actually had been, the Germans would have been pushed out in a matter of months.
Most people just carry on living their lives as best as they can. I am honest that I think both DP and I would be too scared of being killed to be in the resistance. I am fine being an active trade unionist here and now, but when it comes to a very real threat of being killed I would keep my head down.
I think I would be an econowife as we have DCs. But if not a Martha, which would be okayish.

I became a single parent a long time ago, so I would have taken my DC and raced across the border.
