To think the way I take a t-shirt or jumper off isn't odd?

According to DH and ds it does. I cross my arms over, grab the bottom and just lift it up all the way.
DH faffs pulling arms through first. Ds can't "manage" if it's short sleeves as he somehow gets himself stuck. He's 8!
I'm not even a particularly flexible person.
Am I odd or they?

I'm not even sure what I do now I'm thinking about it Grin

What's really weird is the way ds puts a coat on (although he rarely does wear one now he's a teenager!) He crosses his arms, puts his arms in to the sleeves with the coat facing him and then flings it over his head, uncrossing his arms as he does so! ShockConfused

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 17/08/2019 10:22

I do all sorts of ways to get stuff on and off, depending on fit of item, and if i cba to take off my specs, or if i am not wearing them or hair do/make up

dh seems to climb completely inside clothes and then pop himself out of the neck and armholes in a very random fashion. It's very amusing to watch!

BarberaofSeville · 17/08/2019 10:23

I cross arms at the bottom. Just asked DH and he pulls from the back of the neck.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 17/08/2019 10:29

Since we wash all our stuff outside in then it makes sense to take them off so they end up that way. The only time I take a top off by removing the arms first is if I'm going to wear it again later (jumper or similar) or if the neck hole is a bit tight so I want my hands totally free to stretch it over my head.

TheRLodger · 17/08/2019 10:31

Yabu you do it the way my dm does. She used to try to get me to do that way but my arms always used to get stuck above my head

Poetryinaction · 17/08/2019 10:32

This was on Men Behaving Badly

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 17/08/2019 10:41

Me and dp had this conversation (we have such an exciting life). Him trying to take a top off my way was pretty funny to watch though.

Apolloanddaphne · 17/08/2019 10:47

I take off a jumper by taking my left arm out first and using that hand to take it over my head, then i take out the right arm. I put it on by putting my arms in first then over my head.

moofolk · 17/08/2019 10:58

@BertrandRussell I will be testing out the sole of the shoe thing today, then you can tell me why!

Fruityb · 17/08/2019 11:01

This is why all my tops are always inside out!

Bluntness100 · 17/08/2019 11:05

You're doing it the normal way. The only time I do it like your husband is if I'm trying not to get make up on it.

greyspottedgoose · 17/08/2019 11:07

I do arms first, purely as I'm scared of pulling whatever I have underneath up too in public and flashing my bra 😂

HeronLanyon · 17/08/2019 11:08

Agree my method (which is 90% crossed arm up and over inside out) is modified for a few things where neck tightness would leave me stranded or when I have sun cream or similar in face.
I love the coat tossing over head method above and will attempt it but fear i’d need quite a bit of space - could go spectacularly wrong. I once put a jacket on fairly normally but wasn’t used to it’s length and swingy shape yet. Managed to clear neighbouring restaurant table of glasses in one clean movement - luckily no one sitting there yet. Hmmm

Ginkypig · 17/08/2019 11:28

I have worked out it's likely to do with the fact women are used to owning (or at least have probably owned at some point) more tight fitting clothes. Well more likely to have than most men.

That means that when wearing a more fitted top they can't do the arm thing as it stretches the item of clothing or traps you in it! so we do the cross our arms pull over head but once we learn it that way it translates to everything because that's the way we do it now.

Like if you tie your laces a certain way that's just how you do it even if you work out another other way because that's just how you do it.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 17/08/2019 13:23

@Bertrandrussel - I have to sit down and use my hands to yank up my foot to see the sole. I asked DH and he gave me a withering look.
Ds did a standing up version of what I did.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to deal with jumper removing strangeness.

For the shoe thing I bend my leg behind me and look over my shoulder to see the sole of my foot. I'm assuming men bend their knee out to the side and look down in front of them? (But I don't know why!)

My friend puts her bra on by fastening the clasp at the front, then turning it around before putting her arms through the straps. It looks strange and awkward.

Iggly · 17/08/2019 14:04

It depends on the jumper.

Iggly · 17/08/2019 14:05

That’s how I do!

ChinookPilotsGoVertical · 17/08/2019 14:44

OP you're right, at least for tshirts. You should take them off so that the print is on the inside, it makes the print last longer, protects if from the drum of the washing machine.

Intheupsidedown · 17/08/2019 14:53

I just made my dh take his top off so I could see how he does it.

He says it depends if he is sweaty or not but either way he pulls it from the neck... which makes sense why his neck on tshirts are stretched!

I cross arms and pull up from bottom over my head

JellyfishAndShells · 17/08/2019 14:57

Cross arms to take off jumpers/t shirts etc - but I rarely wear make up, so maybe that’s why I am to do it that way.

Sole of foot - standing, sort of crossed it over at knee and looked down. Found that considerably easier than doing it sitting gown ( though that was on squashy sofa)

CigarsofthePharoahs · 17/08/2019 15:40

If we're talking bra fastening -
I put my arms in and fasten behind me. I used to do the clasp up in front of me and then spin it round when I was a teenager. Can't remember why I changed method.

OP posts:
HeronLanyon · 17/08/2019 16:09

I’ve never been able to fasten my bra behind my back sadly - don’t think front fastening and swivelling round (my method too) looks terribly sophisticated !

LemonGingerCakes · 17/08/2019 17:49

What’s the difference between looking at the soles of feet/ shoes?

BertrandRussell · 17/08/2019 17:54

Women bend their knee back and look over their shoulder- men bend it sideways in front and look straight down. Imagine sitting down resting one foot on the other knee- but standing up- IYSWIM.
