To think we can holiday for less than 5k

We have a couple of weeks annual leave November and DH does not think we can go abroad somewhere warm for less than 5k for the three of us.

We've not been away for a few years, is he right? Am I that out of touch?

Of course you can. Airbnb if necessary as cheap flights.

Daddylonglegs1965 · 12/08/2019 21:56

If your planning on holidaying in November I am guessing your little one is under school age. You should definitely be able to come up with a decent holiday well under that budget. If your flying down south you usually have access to cheaper flights than us northerners.
What sort of holiday do you fancy AI, hotel, apartment with more comfortable spacious accommodation with a combination of eating out and prepping some meals.
We had a lot of luck with putting holidays together ourselves when DC were younger with lovely well equipped accommodation using the likes of holiday lettings, owners direct etc.

pinksunday · 12/08/2019 22:00

Don't rule out Mexico. We paid £5.5k for 2 weeks all inclusive for 4 at end June/start of July. The service and hotels are great in Mexico x

pinksunday · 12/08/2019 22:01

Meant to say that was a 5* hotel.

Also check out Cape Verde - some lovely hotels and great prices and only 5-6 hour flight x

BIWI · 12/08/2019 22:01

I assume the third party is your DC? How old are they?

chocolateworshipper · 12/08/2019 22:03

Do you want to be able to go for walks outside of the hotel? If you just want to stay in a hotel that has plenty of pools, sporting activities, kids club and a spa, I can recommend a fab hotel in the Canary Islands.

TheFairyCaravan · 12/08/2019 22:03

We did 11 nights AI in La Palma for £650 each in term time in March/April. We went to the same hotel for a week at the beginning of October last year for under £500 each.

We've just booked a 10 day self catering holiday to Menorca for £650 for me and DH, for just after the kids go back to school in September.

Term time holidays are so much cheaper.

PoohBearsHole · 12/08/2019 22:04

our honey moon for two weeks total luxury was less than that. i know it’s only for two but still. ...... four of us hav3 cracking holidays for way less than that!

colouringinpro · 12/08/2019 22:05

Really???

Onwardsagain · 12/08/2019 22:06

@chocolateworshipper it'd be great to have to option to leave a complex but would be really interested in your recommendation.

We are doing a 5 star resort in Dubai for 4 ultra all inclusive including flights for £4700 in October half term for a week which is more expensive as it’s school holidays.

Groovee · 12/08/2019 22:09

I've paid £900 for dh and I in December.

noeyedeer · 12/08/2019 22:09

Even a quick search on Tui (not the cheapest) shows that 14 nights all inclusive is very doable. I'm rather tempted myself!

chocolateworshipper · 12/08/2019 22:09

The Princess Hotel in La Palma. Absolutely fabulous hotel, but you would either need to hire a car or go on TUI excursions if you want to get away from the hotel (apart from being able to walk to a rocky beach).

Onwardsagain · 12/08/2019 22:13

@BIWI DC will be four

OP posts:
Longdistance · 12/08/2019 22:13

Don’t book through TUI, Thomas Cook et al, get online to travel agents such as holiday genie, Travelbag is another one that’s good.
We usually spend £5k AI for 4. Easily for 3.

Constantlurker · 12/08/2019 22:17

How do you find these places? Do you book as a package or book things separately? My parents only ever use Thomas Cook etc and they are so overpriced. Keen to know what others do!

Helpies · 12/08/2019 22:18

I don't believe you...

Turkey x Kusadasi.

Helpies · 12/08/2019 22:18

I booked through loveholidays.

BIWI · 12/08/2019 22:21

OK - made some assumptions on your part to get this quote from Virgin Holidays. Assume you can go from London and that you'd like to go to Barbados. (Who wouldn't?!). Leaving on Saturday 2 November, for two weeks. Have assumed you're also happy to go self-catering.

So you could go here for £2801.99, flying with Virgin . Which would leave you plenty of money for spending!

TheGirlWhoLovedTomGordon · 12/08/2019 22:23

I am taking 3 DCs to Mallorca in October. Its All Inclusive and it has cost £1100.

£5k is madness for 3 people to go on holiday.

Shop around and you can definitely get it for MUCH less.

BIWI · 12/08/2019 22:25

Or, all inclusive in Antigua for £4707.92

Toknowornot · 12/08/2019 22:26

Lots of good ideas here.

It's not difficult to get a cheap holiday if you're willing to set it up yourself. Use Airbnb or call hotels directly for the best rates. Check TripAdvisor for reviews, recommendations and things to do.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 12/08/2019 22:31

Have rented a whole (small) chateau for 11 for not much more than 3k for a week. Of course you can!

Branster · 12/08/2019 22:45

DH’s says we can’t go for ‘less than 5K’ which means the budget is a bit lower than that figure.

Aim for £3.5k accommodation half board or all inclusive with travel and car hire for 10 days (it doesn’t have to be 2 weeks). Allow £500 spending and have a reserve just in case you want to spend more on impulse.

Start with that as a plan and see how it goes.

Enjoy your time away!
