I was in Germany recently and bumped into someone I used to work with in India.

Once saw someone I know getting cosy with his ex at the services on the Severn bridge. His current girlfriend was my friend. Shock

None of us live anywhere near Wales.

Whatafustercluck · 27/06/2020 10:25

Not exactly strange but a coincidence nonetheless. Walking across Trafalgar Square bumped into someone I was at uni with and I hadn't seen for several years. It wasn't new years even or any significant event. Neither of us lived in London and were just visiting for the day.

mrscee · 27/06/2020 10:27

The girl who I replaced at work, got a job as a midwife and moved away to work. Roll on a few years and I'd given birth to twins who were in special care and I was in my hospital room, at 2.30 in the morning in walked in the girl whose job I'd taken over with a cup of tea and some toast, it was bizarre, she was back at the hospital in the town where we worked and this was her last shift. It was such a fluke and she was surprised when she saw me!

A rainforest in Brazil 😁 and as a kid we met our next door neighbours in a city neither of us knew we were going to visit whilst on holiday.

In Egypt! Literally messaged a friend from uni who I’d been planning to meet up with for ages. He lived in London, I lived up north. I was waiting at the carousel for my luggage, (which was still unknowingly still in Manchester). He messaged back and said he was on holiday in Egypt. We were in the same small resort!

At a shopping Mall in Utah. I bumped into a guy I knew from an area I used to live in. Next day I bumped into him again in a different part of Utah.

School friend on a tiny island in Belize. He told me Princess Diana has just died.

Tragicroundabout · 27/06/2020 10:29

Got chatting to someone on a ferry trip in a remote area of Scotland then went our separate ways when we reached our destination. About two years later when we were travelling round central America, bumped into them in the middle of Mexico.

IAmTheBFG · 27/06/2020 10:29

I ran into my eldest daughter's Geography teacher on a flight from New Delhi to London and my youngest daughter's PE teacher on a remote Croatian island. Clearly we have similiar taste in holidays to teachers!

I was on holiday in Vietnam one summer and met a couple of Dutch girls. The following year I was on holiday in Indonesia and one of the girls cake over to say hi, she was on her way to Australia to work for a year

At a hotel in florida bumped into an old work friend.

On a walk in Yorkshire and bumped into a friend I had known when I lived in Malaysia.

Overallthis · 27/06/2020 10:44

3 in one trip. Disney world in Florida as a teenager, bumped into a teacher from high school who was waiting to get an autograph from one of the characters! Same trip at the airport we ran into a lady who worked in a local shop, and another person we knew on holiday in Florida but I can't remember who right now.

Also as a teenager there was a boy from my year in school on the same Mediterranean cruise we were on. I think we were both a bit embarrassed Grin

On a plane. Twice.

First time, my boss's PA was sitting in front of me and going to the same Club Med resort.

Second time, it was a former colleague of my DH's also sitting in the seat in front. He was on business, we were on holiday!

The other weird experience was bumping into a couple on a walking tours reception in the Scilly Isles. We'd been on the same Canadian coach tour two years previously.

Jaxhog · 27/06/2020 11:00

It's a very small world sometimes.

Jaxhog · 27/06/2020 11:03

I forgot the reception we went to, where my DH bumped into a former boss from 20 years previously. He (the boss) was the next-door neighbour and person being thanked for the success of the person the reception was for!

On a ski lift in Chamonix, sat next to a girl who turned out to be my Australian cousin’s girlfriend

IntermittentParps · 27/06/2020 11:04

On holiday in Sydney from London, was in an underwear shop and bumped into a friend of a friend who I hadn't seen in some years.
Turned out she was living and working in Sydney, which is possibly not as weird as if she'd also been on holiday. Strange though.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/06/2020 11:05

On holiday in Turkey last summer, old next door neighbours from when I was child. They were also on our flight home.

2pointfourmonkeys · 27/06/2020 11:07

In a bar in turkey 20 odd years ago. The barman recognised me as i worked his local back at home. His cousin's family ran the bar and he was there for the summer season!

Jaxhog · 27/06/2020 11:09

And when on holiday in Denver, my handbag handle broke, so I needed to buy a new one. The shop assistant in the handbag shop and I went to the same school in the UK, thirty years previously.

Resisterance · 27/06/2020 11:09

Whilst showing Stonehenge to a Spanish friend i bumped into two friends from California who were literally standing next to us.

Xiaoxiong · 27/06/2020 11:14

In the 1990s my parents, brother, aunt, godmother and I were on holiday in France in the summer, driving around Burgundy. We drove through Vezelay and stopped off to have a look at the abbey.

It was midday, very quiet and the church was almost completely empty but there were some stairs down to the crypt, where we saw the only other people in the whole place - a high school classmate of my parents, aunt and godmother. All of them had gone to a tiny high school together in a rural state in the USA. We have a picture of all of us in the crypt that the guy's wife had to take because there was literally no one else around.

CaCaCaCaffeineBomb · 27/06/2020 11:22

Disneyland, Paris. That's the most random one, out of mine.

Wfhconundrum · 27/06/2020 11:24

Dh’s brother while on holiday in Spain. They’re close - but he happened to be there on a work thing and we were visiting friends so neither had mentioned it.

You can imagine our conversation “doesn’t that guy there look like ‘Dave’? Really looks like him, he’s even got the same walk” etc etc. Then the penny dropped that it actually was him.

IndieRo · 27/06/2020 11:24

Cancun, met my cousin walking on the opposite side of the street. We were both making our way to go swimming with dolphins with our hubby's. Still have the dvd of us with the dolphins.
