To ask how much you paid for Caribbean holiday?

Wisheverydaywasfriday · 12/08/2019 14:10

Looking for a Summer 2020 Caribbean holiday, preferably AI for DH and myself. Would like hotel on the beach. Is it possible to get somewhere nice for approx £4000? Most well reviewed places are much more expensive than this.

You can get some good deals with TUI or Kenwood for Jamaica or Mexico within that price. You might struggle with the Barbados/Antigua/St Lucia prices. Personally I'd avoid DomRep but that's just me. If Mexico, try to go slightly earlier as it buckets down mid-June onwards.

Mrsmch123 · 12/08/2019 16:47

We normally go to a Riu in the Dominican Republic. July some time for 2 weeks all inc with premium upgrade on tui flight for £4000 for 2 adults. I like Riu as they are all the same.

T1meT0G023 · 12/08/2019 16:47

Tui, flights, transfers, all inclusive just over 1k each. There is a little fishing village next door that you can walk to & eat at cafe & book scuba diving & tours in car/mini bus

We're going to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico (but at Easter 2020) watched the prices for 3 months and then booked in March with a TUI code. We've paid £1683 each for AI for 2 weeks in a Riu hotel. It's now over £2k. People on the Facebook page I'm on linked to the hotel have paid as little as £850 in May/June time.

It's brilliant value I think. We've also booked for Summer 2020, decent hotel and are paying £1300. Mexico and Caribbean seem such better value

BG2015 · 12/08/2019 17:34

Sorry missed out the word Turkey for summer 2020

NorfolkEnchance · 12/08/2019 20:55

We paid 5k 5* AI for 3 weeks in January 2014. It was a Riu hotel in Dominican republic, adults only... Got pregnant 8 weeks before we went 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP have you looked at Secret Escapes?

I know the ad is annoying but they some lovely deals.

TrickyD · 12/08/2019 21:18

Excellent hotel in the DR, swim up rooms, premium service, eight of us plus a two year old, end of July - beginning of August, two weeks £17,700. Looks as if the same thing next year will, be more like £20,000.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/08/2019 21:22

All these people posting that they went 4 or 5 years ago....prices will have gone up massively since then.

TheGoogleMum · 12/08/2019 21:23

I follow guru travel on Facebook but can't afford to book, they often have sandals resorts for less than £4000 per couple

Longdistance · 12/08/2019 21:24

We’re heading to the DR on Thursday, that cost us about £4200 for 4 of us, two adults two dc 8 and 9.
We went to Barbados about 3 years ago, that was £5k.
I must say, my favourite island is Antigua ❤️ Love that place. We stayed in the Grand Pineapple beach hotel. Seemed more adult friendly than family friendly. Lots of different restaurants.

Indicative · 12/08/2019 21:32

Another vote for Grand pineapple in Antigua for reasonable prices for AI.

BUT not in Summer. It is hurricane season in the caribbean. Between Oct half term and Easter is better.

Stormwhale · 12/08/2019 21:34

We have just paid £1.6k for 9 nights in 4* all inclusive in majorca end of next june. The flight is much shorter too!

Sarahlou63 · 12/08/2019 21:36

Coco's Hotel in Antigua is fantastic! Adults only, AI but all al a carte, only 35 cottages and the most stunning beaches. Went last December and going again this November. BA package.

Wisheverydaywasfriday · 12/08/2019 21:51

Thanks, @tequilasunrises will check that out!

Maybe consider your carbon emissions instead.

Shadowboy · 12/08/2019 21:55

We did Barbados room only at a lovely hotel £1000 per person for 10 nights in September last year- it was fantastic- hotel had its own reef just off the beach it was on. Coconut court i think it was called. We booked flights separately so a bit scary to book one first, but it worked out really well.

BIWI · 12/08/2019 21:56

The Verandah in Antigua is amazing. I put a date in at random, and assumed you would be going for a week, and it came up at just over your budget:

Sexless30 · 13/08/2019 10:51

£3800 for 2 weeks Dom Rep, 5* AI with unlimited ala carte dinning at 7 other restaurants late June early July 2019

T1meT0G023 · 13/08/2019 12:26

Also been to Cuba AI just over 1K each. Jamaica was far better

cantw8 · 13/08/2019 12:31

MrsJBaptiste - I don't consider £5k on a caravan holiday good value for money.

MrsJBaptiste · 13/08/2019 13:05

It's not good value at all! It's absolutely expensive for two weeks in a caravan!

However... the site is immaculate, the caravans brand new and the location is perfect. I know it's the location we're paying for this year.

It's the endless trips to the supermarket that I hate. DH and the kids don't seem to mi d but give me AI any day...

cardamoncoffee · 13/08/2019 13:14

Sorry no advice but while we are here I want to ask if the Caribbean is generally considered safe outside of hotels/resorts? I would never consider AI and like to explore as a family, but the (outdated) info O have is that reporters surrounded by barbed wire fences and armed security. I heard this from several people wrt DR in particular.

cardamoncoffee · 13/08/2019 13:16

*reporters=resorts

Rubbinghimsweetly2 · 13/08/2019 13:18
