She gave the film a 1 star review because Amazon "let her buy it twice". What an absolute idiot. Does she really think Amazon police people buying things twice? Did she not think people buy duplicates as gifts etc? This has actually made me angry as it is so stupid.

What?! There’s no Starbucks at the summit of Ben Nevis

I said something similar walking round Buck House, a coffee would have been lovely but at least I was being a bit facetious. I thought the same in the Uffizi and the Vatican Museum, there are business opportunities there!

RebootYourEngine · 11/08/2019 17:57

Loved the Ben Nevis review.

I worry for some people, how do they get through day to day life. Shock

Managing the SM is my most favourite part of my job. Everyone else hates it because of all the non sense listed but I live for it.

We have a online shop and 99% of 1 star reviews are about delivery which are with couriers (so nothing to do with us, although we chase and sort as we can). 50% of the reviews are incredulous that we email and text with the delivery slot. The at least once a week someone has missed a delivery and is offered a redilivery or collect from depot, and they say they expected it to be delivered to their mothers who only lives round the corner when they weren’t in - the usual post man knows this!

Outing if you work with me but once had a poor product review because the delivery driver was wearing strong aftershave.

flashingbeacon · 11/08/2019 18:02

^incredulous that we only email and text with the delivery slot. They want me to call and ask. Sure that’s only 4000 phone calls a day.

Helmetbymidnight · 11/08/2019 18:05

tell me about it!

some of us writers check our reviews all the time, imagine our fury at the 1 star - 'didn't download' or worse the 1 star - ' havent read it yet'...

ineedaholidaynow · 11/08/2019 18:16

I remember reading a trip advisor review on a hotel we had been to in Italy. Bearing in mind it was advertised as a family friendly hotel the review complained that there were children there!

Another reviewer complained that there were birds on the outside terrace

perfectstorm · 11/08/2019 18:19

I hate reviews like that. Ocado stock some really small, genuinely artisanal companies, and one idiot left a one star review for an item from such a company, because they didn't like that Ocado had sent it in its own plastic bag. Yes, I'm sure a diddly company creating your product with a handful of staff has total control over Ocado's packing and despatch processes. Hmm

The awful thing is that reviews like that dent the product's ranking when shown to customers - be it books, or food. There should be a way to sift the idiots out because it's so unfair on the producers.

My son is home educated and reads constantly (far more since he's been at home - he often gets through a full novel a day when on a roll) and we will start to work on him leaving Amazon reviews for books he's really enjoyed, this September. Great for him as an English exercise, and hopefully useful to other people as well as nice for the children's authors in question. I will also use the stupid reviews, on delivery times etc, as a way to show him the perils of failing to read instructions... and the permanance of anything left online!

Sorry to all those affected by the idiocy. It's like Tripadvisor: between the schill reviews on the one hand, and the unpleasable on the other, the wisdom of crowds is decidedly dicey.

perfectstorm · 11/08/2019 18:21

Or permanence, even. Case in point!

BusySittingDown · 11/08/2019 18:29

Has anyone read the "Thickos on Trip Advisor" thread? It's in classics iirc.

People on Trip Advisor complaining that there are Spanish people in Spain! Words fail me!

BusySittingDown · 11/08/2019 18:30

Thickos on TripAdvisor

Someone put a complaint in at my work because she didn’t like the reviews she had read about a garage that the insurers wanted to send her car for repairs, the car was repaired at a different garage but still had to put a complaint in, all because she didn’t like the reviews, absolutely ridiculous 🤦🏽‍♀️

KatoPotato · 11/08/2019 18:35

My MIL told me that she gets sent questions about items she's bought on amazon and answers them honestly.

One was asking 'how wide is this?' And she replied, I don't know I'm not getting a tape measure out

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/08/2019 18:37

My favourite was the one where the couple wanted a twin room on holiday as they’re a no sex before marriage couple.

They were given a double bed instead and found out afterwards she’d got pregnant - the hotel’s fault, obvs, and they claimed to be livid Grin

RussianDolls · 11/08/2019 18:42

This lady came in at closing time and complained that the place was closed. You just couldn’t make it up.

Fuma · 11/08/2019 18:43

LOL I love reviews like your MIL's. One star and the comment "I'm not doing your job for you Amazon". 🤣🤣

Tbf a lot of the pointless "arrived on time" reviews come about because of Amazon emailing people and asking them for feedback and if someone has literally just got the item out of the box they can't say much useful about it.

Most reviews are pretty pointless really - you're still better just asking real people you know for recommendations. They are very funny to read though.

RussianDolls · 11/08/2019 18:44

This is a closer screenshot of this review.

howwudufeel · 11/08/2019 18:45

Didn’t someone complain about their holiday because there were fish in the sea and her children were frightened Grin

purplemunkey · 11/08/2019 18:54

There are lots of silly reviews, for sure.

But I think the one in the OP is complaining that Amazon have let her pay for a download twice, as it says format Amazon Prime. Still nothing to do with the film, granted, but not quite as silly a complaint as it sounds.

I do hate the countless reviews that say things like 'Bought for my granddaughter. Not opened yet but looks great'. Who gives a fuck if it looks great? I want to know if it actually great once you take it out the box. That's what I'm looking at the reviews for!

Witchofzog · 11/08/2019 18:56

And now I am angry again. This time at the idiot woman who didn't like the shape of her coke glass preventing the place from getting a 5 star review. What a ridiculous thing to do Angry

We live in quite a rural area, not far from a small town but houses back on to a forest.

Had new neighbours once from a city who came here to get away from city life but were really disappointed with the forest walks because all they had were trees. I was a bit Hmm

They also didn't realise how loud they were as we could hear them having really loud sex from 2 doors away and I had to shout out one night "SHE'S FAKING IT!"

They only lasted a few months here before moving on.

perfectstorm · 11/08/2019 19:05

@sarahjconnor there are numerous reviews on that place, all saying he sexually assaulted them. They range from comments on nail fetishism, to claims that he massaged their breasts and inner thighs, to one using the term "violated".

Honestly, I'm not laughing.

gowgow · 11/08/2019 19:17

I asked for advice on a FB page about a holiday destination, & was told to do some research. ermm..., this is research you moron.

On Amazon, I asked about the length of a dress. I was told things like "I'm 5'9" - no other info; mid-calf, again no other info.

caballerino · 11/08/2019 19:18

Yeh, so you just delete the email like any normal person, no? Not like Amazon is going to ban them or impose penalties if they don't leave a product review.

I do wonder if some of these pointless reviews are because the people concerned are used to sites like eBay where the feedback is on the seller not the product and it affects users' rankings.

AlexaAmbidextra · 11/08/2019 19:18

Arriving at Victoria on platform 15 the walk to the check in on platform 2 took 20 mins as my husband suffers from angina.

This is from a one star review of the Belmond British Pullman. So because they couldn’t step off the train that brought them and directly on to the British Pullman they moan. Hardly Belmond’s fault. They go where Network Rail put them.
