How much do you spend on decor, venue hire etc? Excluding food and gifts
Thanks!

A whole class party with hall and entertainer is about £300 round here. I don't do one every year, maybe every other year.

CuppaSarah · 10/08/2019 21:52

This year I got the go ahead to take my kids to work with me(play session leader) so I'm getting paid for it Grin although I do have to put the bouncy castle away myself so it's not all winning.

crisscrosscranky · 10/08/2019 21:54

I really don't see the point in these threads- it's all relative to your income surely? Same with the how much do you spend at Christmas thread...

FWIW we spend around 0.5% of our annual income on each child's birthday party/celebrations.

bouncingraindrops · 10/08/2019 22:05

It depends how old the child is and what type of party.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 10/08/2019 22:09

About £150 if we do an activity type thing, 10 kids at a trampoline park, cinema and pizza type thing.

If a hall/at home...£50 all in? Hall, food etc.

Imustbemad00 · 10/08/2019 23:05

Halls round here are roughly £80 minimum for 2-3 hours. Decor can get lots of bits in pound shop. Entertainment depends on what you want, but an entertainer princess person for example is about £120 for be hour.

Soft play party with food, £250 for 12 kids. Same for trampolining.

MammaMia19 · 10/08/2019 23:15

Slightly embarrassed to admit this now. When I was a lot better off the most expensive party I did was just under £500. (entertainer £295, hall £100, rest on food, party bags & 2 tier cake specially made) for 45 kids.
Now I feel crazy to have spent that much but at the time I could afford it.
Now I’m a single mum. This year is a small party of 10, ex splitting the bill so £75 each. I now pick venues that include food in the price, picked up a load of cupcakes instead of having a cake made and I made sweetie bags instead of party bags.
It’s all relative to what you can afford but even if I was better off again I wouldn’t spend that much.

My daughter's 5th birthday is coming up. I have hired a hall for £50, a bouncy castle and mini car and bouncer things for £110. I'll make my own cake and do the food myself. We'll do a colouring/ craft corner too.

tigger001 · 11/08/2019 00:06

We did our DS at home as he's only 2 its was £300 for food and decorations and the cake.

CoolWivesClub2019 · 11/08/2019 00:15

Usually about £150...it seems to be that price for 6 of them to do activity/pizza (more common lately) or for hiring a facility for 20-30 kids including buffet and activity.

WarmthAndDepth · 11/08/2019 00:23

Always do 'home parties' as DC have summer birthdays and we can be in the garden. Nevertheless, it still comes in quite pricey with food, resources for a nice craft activity, party bags, layers of pass-the-parcel and prizes for games etc. I think I spent just over £100 last time.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 11/08/2019 00:35

Usually spend about £200 (London). Best value was the swimming party which is £11 per child including swim and food. I just needed to do a cake and party bags. Worst value was hiring the local adventure playground as it was £200 to hire then we needed to do food, drinks, cake, party bags and that cost easily another £100.
This year DD wants to go trampolining and I've said she can ask 6 friends, that's £12 per child and probably Nando's after which is £6 or whatever for a kids meal. We can afford it but as they are getting older I can't see us doing many more big parties.

nanbread · 11/08/2019 00:41

We've only ever done parties at home, making our own entertainment / games / decorations, probably spent about £30 including party bags? Plus food and (home made) cake on top. We keep it pretty simple tbh.

Qwerty09876 · 11/08/2019 00:52

£156 for 6 to go horse riding for a hour, about £80 on presents for her, £10 balloons banners , decorations £15 birthday cake (from supermarket)
£25 dominos for her and friends.
Stupidly expensive imo

nutbrownhare15 · 11/08/2019 07:37

We have ours in a local park so just food really. £25 max including cake.

BeanBag7 · 11/08/2019 07:43

We did our DS at home as he's only 2 its was £300 for food and decorations and the cake Shock

Our 2 year olds birthday party cost about £50

MoodLighting · 11/08/2019 07:47

I did spend £140 this year as I had a small baby and a broken bathroom and I just wanted someone else to sort it all out!

MoodLighting · 11/08/2019 07:48

Should have mentioned that was soft play leisure centre type thing for 20 something kids.

PumpkinPie2016 · 11/08/2019 07:48

For DS 5th birthday (his first at school) I paired up with his friend's mum as they are in the same class and we're actually born on the same day.

We did a soft play party and invited the whole class - a few couldn't come but a lot did. Cost us about £100 each for 2 hours soft play, good, character visit and party bags which the venue organised.

All we had to do was provide cakes (the centre cut and wrapped for us).

Was great and really easy for us!

Hellywelly10 · 11/08/2019 07:51

Last year i spent £36 on pizza and about £30 on sainsburys (at home). The most i ever spent was £150 on a bowling party.

AvengerDanvers95 · 11/08/2019 07:52

Had DD's party at home. £80 For a bouncy castle, about £15 For craft kits and about £15 for party bags. Then food and drinks on top of that. We're lucky that she has a summer birthday and we have a big enough garden.

user1487194234 · 11/08/2019 07:56

About £300
Then about the same again on a family party (mainly on fizz!)

EmrysAtticus · 11/08/2019 07:56

Last birthday DS was 3 and had his first party. Went for the softplay package which included food and party bags and came to £175 for 20. Spent £30 on the cake so just over £200 and didn't have to do anything other than turn up with cake.

Xmasbaby11 · 11/08/2019 08:03

The most I've spent is £200 for a trampoline party. We then provided food and party bags. It was for both dds and we had the place to ourselves. I think it waa worth it - kids enjoyed it!

DonPablo · 11/08/2019 08:16

Ours have a £250 budget all in for their birthdays. It can all be spent on a party or all on a present (or presents!) or a mixture. They tend to alternate, one year a bug present and the next a big party.

Ladtbyear for the youngest I did a joint party, so it cost £125 for the party and they got a decent present. I save the child benefit to pay for it.
