To think this is expensive?

Needed a blind putting up in the window in my hall.
It's a tiny window (think a small rectangle toilet window)
Rang the company, they do free estimation.
He charged me £45 for 1 roller blind.
Is it just me who think that's really expensive ?
I was thinking £25-30 max
That includes fitting too ..but he will be in and out in 5 mins.

If you’re going to enjoy it for a number of years,,£15 is nothing.

WrongKindOfFace · 09/08/2019 20:31

If that includes the cost of a made to measure blind that’s not unreasonable. If it’s just the fitting it’s expensive.

pinkopink · 09/08/2019 20:31

On the website they had a offer 3 blinds (up to 6 foot) for £99 plus 1 free
So I just assumed 1 would be really cheap.

They still need to run a company and come out to a tiny job which has a fixed cost. It might be 15 mins to fit but they still neednto travel to and from your house

Pipandmum · 09/08/2019 20:31

He may be in and out in five (or 15) but you are also paying for him to get there. You can get blinds online or if standard window B&Q or similar and fit them yourself.

Batshittery · 09/08/2019 20:32

To say it also includes fitting, I don't think it is expensive

pinkopink · 09/08/2019 20:32

I didn't want the hassle of fitting that's why I chose a shop bought one.
I guess thinking about it that makes sense.
They need to make a profit

IKEA do customisable blinds for a fiver.

ZenNudist · 09/08/2019 20:33

That's ok. Its not £45 for 5mins work. Did he not come and measure up? Does he have to drive to you? Who put the order in?

The blind itself costs money. You could have ordered one online for £25 but fit it yourself.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 09/08/2019 20:34

It's his time which is pricey (relatively anyway).

If you love it then you'll have it for ages so a bargain really

georgialondon · 09/08/2019 20:34

Sounds a good price to me

strawbmilk · 09/08/2019 20:34

I was quoted £400 for a small bedroom window last year. We luckily found a blind in Homebase for a tenner in the sale and a friend kindly fitted it. Obviously never called to confirm with the blind company 😂

It would be all wonky if I put it up!

ZenNudist · 09/08/2019 20:36

Xpost. You pay more for made to measure and fit. Different fabrics are more expensive. The £99 is probably a loss leader or eye catching offer whereby if you want anything other than bog standard it costs more.

neversleepagain · 09/08/2019 20:40

We had a blind fitted and supplied for a small (not tiny) window and it was £100 8 years ago but still looks new.

We recently paid £240 for a shutter on our tiny bathroom window.

So sounds more than fair to me.

Saddler · 09/08/2019 20:41

Sounds cheap as chips

tulippa · 09/08/2019 20:45

Fitting blinds is a pain in the arse! Having tried to do it myself in the past I'd pay that.

MrsElizabethShelby · 09/08/2019 20:46

@namechangeforthiscancershit

No it wouldn't! No DIY skills required.

arethereanyleftatall · 09/08/2019 20:52

That's really cheap!
He's travelling to you and back twice, first for quote then for fitting. 4 journeys.
He has to order and buy the blind.
He has to fit the blind and buy the tools to fit the blind.
Round my way, I can guarantee you it would be four times that price.

thumper59 · 09/08/2019 20:56

We own a blinds company. Seems reasonable. They cost a lot more than what people expect to buy in the fabric/Make up/ components. That's before coming out and measuring and fitting too! 3 for 99 is often restricted on sides and in not very good quality fabric companies can get a load of on the cheap x

areyoubeingserviced · 09/08/2019 20:57

That’s cheap
It cost me £600 to put up five blinds in my house.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 09/08/2019 21:07

MrsElizabeth I'm quite inspired now!

Pinkout · 09/08/2019 21:09

Do you know anyone who could put it up for you? I’d never pay someone to fit a blind.

IsobelRae23 · 09/08/2019 21:12

We’ve always put our own blind up- never considered paying to have it done. It’s easy!
