For those who have a cleaner, how much do you pay?

DM does cleaning on the side of her other job. She's currently charging £10 an hour and has been for a few years. We live in the North West.

Would she BU to increase her hourly rate?

£10 ph Cheshire we pay, but my brother pays £12 same area

Circe32 · 07/08/2019 12:51

£10 p.h West Yorkshire. Includes products

YahBasic · 07/08/2019 12:53

£13ph South West.

If I’d been using the same cleaner for a couple of years, I’d be expecting prices to go up.

Maybe she can speak to them to say it will go up to £12ph from January, and either keep it at 10 for now, or if she feels comfortable 11?

ThatCurlyGirl · 07/08/2019 13:00

£12 an hour in Berkshire

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 07/08/2019 13:03

South East, £3.50/ hour to the agency, £10/ hour directly to the cleaner.
Agency provides insurance, dbs checks, and an alternate cleaner if ours is ill/ on holiday.

GillT333 · 07/08/2019 13:05

£12.75 per hour south east. They bring all their own equipment/products.

thecatsthecats · 07/08/2019 13:06

£11ph, West Midlands.

Is she popular, recommended, in demand?

She can always take the approach of taking on new clients at a higher rate, and letting the old ones know that she'll be moving them onto the new rate in say, six months time.

If she's decent, and the new rate doesn't pitch her too far above the going rate for the area, I imagine a good deal of them will just stay, and if not, the rest will be staggered in their departures (some people would want a new cleaner immediately, others leave it until the last minute).

If my cleaner wanted £1 more per hour, I wouldn't even bother to check, I'd just pay more. If it were £2, I'd check what else was available locally, but it would have to be £2ph cheaper in order to bother the upheaval, if you see what I mean?

OtraCosaMariposa · 07/08/2019 13:06

£35 for between 2hr 45 and 3 hrs depending on how quick she is on that week! She supplies her own products.

WhatHaveIFound · 07/08/2019 13:08

£13/hr in West Yorkshire. Includes all products and substitute cleaner when our normal one is on holiday.

MarshaBradyo · 07/08/2019 13:09

£50 for 4 hours London

chillychicken · 07/08/2019 13:13

£15 an hour, south east. I use an agency.

Starlight39 · 07/08/2019 13:20

£13 per hour South East. She brings her own hoover and all products.

AtiaoftheJulii · 07/08/2019 17:54

£10/hour + £4/hour to the agency. Home counties.

Indicative · 07/08/2019 18:14

£15 per hour se

bookgirl1982 · 07/08/2019 18:24

£12 per hour, south east.

Went up from £10 per hour a few months ago.

NiceCuppaTe · 07/08/2019 18:30

£14ph in SE

PeonyRose80 · 07/08/2019 18:51

£13.50 p/h Hampshire

JoJoSM2 · 07/08/2019 18:53

£12 in London but it’s £96 for 8h. I’d expect to pay more if someone came for only 3h.

trilbydoll · 07/08/2019 19:19

£14/hr in Hampshire. Tbh I wouldn't know where to start looking for a new cleaner so I would be unlikely to quibble over a rate increase!

Auramigraine · 07/08/2019 19:20

Can I ask roughly how many hours a week people use a cleaner? When we move thinking of having a cleaner in as would be easier round full time work etc, 3 bed house.

AllTheCakes · 07/08/2019 19:22

£14.25 ph south east, but we supply the products. We have three hours per fortnight which covers the whole of a four bed house.

happytoday73 · 07/08/2019 19:29

Manchester... Was £11 increased to £12. Min of 2 hours... We had weekly for 3 bed. Stopped as getting less and less for my money...
I d pay slightly more if you found a really good reliable cleaner

Nyon · 07/08/2019 19:41

We paid £27 for an hour and half (flat) including agency fees in Surrey. Stopped as she got lazy basically - stopped doing most jobs. Would love to find another!

JoJoSM2 · 07/08/2019 19:48

@Auramigraine I’d say 3h to clean a 3-bed, 1-bath standard terrace.

Beamur · 07/08/2019 20:23

I have a largeish 4 bed house. Cleaner comes for 1.5 hrs - does floors and bathroom/downstairs loo.
If you want dusting/bins emptied, that kind of thing, you'd need more time. 2/3 hours wouldn't be unreasonable for a 3 bed house.
My cleaner is pretty speedy but does a good job. I make sure it's tidy and the floor is clear. If not, I've asked her to clean around it rather than waste her time picking it up.
