What do you think is going to happen on the 31st of October?

My thought is that the pound will equal 1 US dollar, inflation will be hellish, and everything will become much more expensive. I have heard people saying that others should wait to buy property because of maybe a crash? I don't think so though, I think property will become more expensive as a result of the pound becoming devalued. Savings accounts will be hurt the most.

What are your thoughts?

I can predict whatll happen on 31/10. I'll turn 40 :o
What time do we leave? Will I spend my 40th birthday in the EU or out?

twofingerstoEverything · 06/08/2019 11:47

this is a leaked document outlining the government's own expectations in the event of a no-deal Brexit
What will actually happen will depend hugely on the amount of no-deal planning government and individual companies do. If the government thinks they can wing it and don't have contingency plans in place, it's going to be chaos. Anyone who thinks there won't be much disruption has got their head in the sand/is rich enough not to feel the impact. people like hedge fund wanker Crispin Odey who is betting £300 MILLION on no deal Brexit being a disaster for British businesses

Blueoasis · 06/08/2019 12:02

Less likely option:

Food shortages
Medicine shortages
Job losses
Housing market crashes
Pound value drops
Riots occur
Civil unrest
Crime increases
Bojo gets sacked for doing a shit job
Former pm and those responsible get prosecuted for what they've done
Capital punishment returns with bojo being first on London Bridge to hang

Or more likely:

We'll just get on with it like typical British and hopefully won't notice a bloody difference. Hopefully at least, depending on how bad the tories fuck it up.

twofingerstoEverything · 06/08/2019 12:11

Blue Just out of interest, why do you think Pound value drops/food shortages/medicine shortages are 'less likely' options when government/industry have already acknowledged these would be impacted? BBC news story here Reassure me!

Figmentofmyimagination · 06/08/2019 12:23

It does seem ironic that they are still calling themselves the ‘conservative’ party. If ever a name were more inappropriate, this is it. The ‘smash-it-up-and-wreck-it’ party would seem to be a better name for this governing group.

probstimeforanewname · 06/08/2019 12:27

the fact the Pants-on-Fire Johnson avers that we are off anything makes it less likely

Quite a large part of me also thinks this...

I also think the media will whip everything into a frenzy but that is quite dangerous. There will definitely be panic buying and the supplies of a lot of products will either stop or slow down, so if there is something you really like, even if it is made here (eg a lipstick or brand of running shoes) buy an extra one/pair and keep it in so you won't run out when you need a replacement.

And there will be a bonfire of workers' rights before Christmas (except there may not as the Tories don't really have a majority, but once they do have....)

TwoPupsandaHamster · 06/08/2019 12:27

There will be a shake up of political parties. Each party will have a leader worth voting for (depending on your politics). There will be a GE and the party voted into power will get on with running the country.

DuckWillow · 06/08/2019 12:35

Personally speaking o don’t thI no anything much will change initially. The Tories found a magic money tree and will prop stuff up initially so I doubt we’ll notice much straight away.

I want to think everything will be fine and that we will deal with whatever happens as it comes along. And I say that as a Remain voter.

I think there’s a lot of fears but I’m hoping they are groundless

MuseumGardens · 06/08/2019 12:42

Lots of people who voted Leave will start denying they ever voted for this
Happens a lot on mumsnet already. People who claim they voted Remain but now want Brexit are obviously bullshitting as no one who thought leaving the EU was a bad idea at the time of the referendum would think it's going so well they now want to leave! They just don't want to admit they helped get us into this mess!

Graphista · 06/08/2019 20:11

MuseumGardens agreed I ain't buying that bullshit either!

In real life I AM noticing leavers that are now shitting themselves!

Blueoasis · 06/08/2019 21:03

twofingerstoEverything

I'm more really hoping it to be honest, rather than knowing. Who knows what will happen, can only hope that it's not the shit show its likely to be.

Bravelurker · 06/08/2019 21:04

On a (supposedly) slightly lighter note - a sea of name changes on mn - by beleavers!

Like Goldengroveller Grin.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 06/08/2019 21:38

It's going to be much more interesting in real life. People have for the most part been very open about how they voted. Those who voted to leave are going to have a hard time airbrushing that from history.

(To be fair there's a good chance they'll somehow blame remoaners, but still.)

mrsglowglow · 06/08/2019 21:52

Who knows? one prediction; We will leave the EU with no deal. A general election will result in a Conservative win. The beginning of trade deals will start and go on for ever after. No hard boarder will be put up between NI and Ireland. We'll all be fretting and having a frugal Christmas. Then we'll have the usual winter dilemmas, bad weather, terrorism threats, NHS crisis. So much to lo9k forward to! We better enjoy the rest of the Summer 😎

mrsglowglow · 06/08/2019 21:54

border even

Cobblersandhogwash · 07/08/2019 06:55

@FiddlesticksAkimbo those idiots can blame Remainers all they like.

Remainers will bite back very hard.
