To think that TUI are shit.

Booked a family holiday last year on August. We are due to fly in 11 days.

When we booked we chose the holiday based on being able to fly from our local airport, 30 mins from home.

We received an email late last year saying all flights to the destination we chose has been cancelled from our local area. The nearest airport we can fly from is 1.5 to 2 hours away. We agreed as we really want to go on the holiday, even though it was annoying. Booked on a flight at 3.05 pm.

Just checking details with the airport and we can't find the flight. So we checked with TUI. The flight is now at 6am. We were sent an email originally saying that the flights had been changed, from the main TUI email address. For this second change we were told that we had been emailed about it.

We searched our junk folder and Lo and behold an email from a random email address, with no warning in the heading that our flights had changed again. No apologies for the fact it wasn't clear that the flight had changed or that it had come from a totally different email address from every other email we had been sent. In fact the woman in the branch was so off hand that it has put us off using TUI ever again.

AIBU to feel that the number of changes is unreasonable and that that attitude of the staff sucks?

Tui took over First Choice I think

Sorry I'm going to say that I think TUI are great GrinI've just come back from Florida with them and the flight crew were all amazing and made the boring long flight very enjoyable for two children. There was no need for the extra that was done and I'd definitely away with them again

Kez0777 · 05/08/2019 21:38

And also wouldn't the changes be on your e-ticket which is emailed out a few weeks before you fly?

Our favourite hotel in Turkey is only available through Tui ( and previously Thomson ) and they're ok on the whole but I think the baggage allowance is shit.
15kg hold luggage but 10kg hand luggage.

My case was over and they were ok about us juggling stuff around but I think that I would prefer to choose how I use my 25kg. 3/4 of us didn't use hand luggage allowance.

Really recommend Jet2. Wouldn't go with anyone else.

Oh thank you. Well fingers crossed then !

I've been on two TUI holidays in the past 12 months and one more to come later this year - one of these was brilliant, the other not so much.

I have read lots of TUI horror stories in the papers recently, though that said I wouldn't always trust those - there was one about the Thomas Cook hotel I went to earlier this year which was published just before I went, yet the hotel was the nicest place I've ever been to (so much so I'm going back next year!).

I 100% prefer Thomas Cook over TUI, but, to anyone who has booked TUI, they aren't always so shit.

I hate Thomas Cook, and have heard that TUI isn't great. However I loved Jet2 when we went with them.

They've been fine for us but we just use them for flight and booking hotel. We don't do excursions, use the resort reps, buy food on the plane etc. We've travelled four or five times with them and no issues. But we are pretty laid back travellers!

@Celebelly 'we are pretty laid back travellers'. Are you suggesting that people that complain aren't laid back?

Would you be laid back about a 13 hour flight delay with 2 small children and zero information? Or being abandoned in a foreign airport with no information into the small hours?

Or maybe with TUI not telling you the hotel you are entering has an outbreak of foot and mouth?

We've booked two spur of the moment long haul holidays with Tui as they were the only direct flight to our destination and they were great. Both times were on the Dreamliner and alcohol and food was at no cost. I had an issue with my knee inflight on the first holiday and they were amazing, they had airport assistance waiting and we were out of a very busy airport and into a taxi within 30 minutes. Thankfully the knee issue resolved itself pretty quickly. The second time my husband's inflight entertainment wasn't working and they couldn't reset it. He wasn't bothered but the cabin crew filled in a compensation form on an iPad and we were refunded some money straight to our bank account.

Last year we booked flight only and again they were the only airline to fly direct to our destination from our local airport and we had no issues at all.

The cabin crew were excellent on all flights.
