To think that TUI are shit.

Booked a family holiday last year on August. We are due to fly in 11 days.

When we booked we chose the holiday based on being able to fly from our local airport, 30 mins from home.

We received an email late last year saying all flights to the destination we chose has been cancelled from our local area. The nearest airport we can fly from is 1.5 to 2 hours away. We agreed as we really want to go on the holiday, even though it was annoying. Booked on a flight at 3.05 pm.

Just checking details with the airport and we can't find the flight. So we checked with TUI. The flight is now at 6am. We were sent an email originally saying that the flights had been changed, from the main TUI email address. For this second change we were told that we had been emailed about it.

We searched our junk folder and Lo and behold an email from a random email address, with no warning in the heading that our flights had changed again. No apologies for the fact it wasn't clear that the flight had changed or that it had come from a totally different email address from every other email we had been sent. In fact the woman in the branch was so off hand that it has put us off using TUI ever again.

AIBU to feel that the number of changes is unreasonable and that that attitude of the staff sucks?

No issues here, in fact really rated them but used them once during school time- are there changes during peak travel time?

mrsjackrussell · 05/08/2019 18:14

I would never go anywhere with Tui again. I'm disabled I asked for a room with no stairs and was told I would get one when I got there the room allocated to us had stairs so we had to pay another £200 for a pool room because it was on the ground floor. I couldn't even use the pool as I couldn't get in and out from the room. It ruined my holiday. I hated the room it was so dark.
Next time I will use an independent travel agent.

They are awful. Beyond awful. We had a 13 hour flight delay last year and no one helped me. They also disregarded our seat selections that we had paid for and refused to refund us. The after care is non existent.

It took months of fighting them for my compensation but I got it in the end.

There is a great Facebook group dedicated to people advising you on issues with them. It's called TUI Holiday Complaints Group. They can give you lots of advice on how to deal with them and make complaints and get compensation.

I hate hate hate the bastards.

Sorry for the multiple posts it's kept telling me I had an error.

Maybe Mumsnet has been taken over by TUI for the day 🤪

Ohbehave1 · 05/08/2019 18:54

@ChipsAndKetchup did the same to me lol.

Any airline can have flight changes, if you ground a significant number of aircraft (737 max) the risk increases.

Likewise any email can go to spam. Spam fokders should be regularly reviewed.

But I will never understand why, with so much accommodation available on line, people are still booking packages, often more expensive than booking direct and complete with unwanted drop off coach tours on arrival.

Ohbehave1 · 05/08/2019 19:08

@StarlightLady I know a little bit about aviation having had a keen interest for a long time and having worked in the aerospace industry. The 737 max is a huge issue in the industry.

And if you read my earlier post, the annoyance about the emails was that all other emails had come from one email address and this one had come from one that didn't even look like it came from TUI. And the subject did not state anything about flight changes. It looked just like a spam email rather than a very important piece of information. That's why it ended up in the junk folder and was missed.

PettyContractor · 05/08/2019 19:19

you can't blame them for your failure to check your spam folder. So many emails go there erroneously that you should be checking it regularly.

I never check my spam folder. Checking a spam folder defeats the purpose of having a spam folder. In roughly sixteen years of using gmail I've never had an important email go to spam. (As far as I know, obviously!)

StripeySocks29 · 05/08/2019 20:01

I’ve used TUI once and I won’t be using them again. We booked with them rather than booking flights and hotels separately because it was our first holiday with our 2 year old and we just wanted everything included so we didn’t have to think about it. Only it wasn’t clear when we booked that you had to pay extra to sit together on the plane, it didn’t even occur to me that if you booked a package holiday, with transfers, that you wouldn’t automatically be sat together, especially with a toddler.

When I wanted to speak to someone to complain - not to complain about the practice or cost of paying to sit together - but to complain that it hadn’t been clear that we needed to choose this option when we booked, it was impossible to actually get a reply. Once they’ve got your money they couldn’t care less.

Lifeover · 05/08/2019 20:34

Holidayed with TUI loads. Never had an issue, found them really helpful esp with things like accidents.

Unfortunately the prolonged grounding of the 737 max has had very big effects on their schedule.

Sunwing seem to be picking up many of their flights, a painin the arse but unavoidable. I’d rather they weren’t flying planes whose computers seem to literally crash

DrDentyst · 05/08/2019 20:53

Our last 7/8 holidays have been with Tui. The only problem I've had is the transfer to the airport being a bit late on one occasion which was rather stressful. I spend hours looking at holidays before booking, I always try to book separately but I can never find the holiday I book via Tui cheaper using any other methods (a hotel we liked a few years ago was over £500 more expensive by booking direct with the hotel and we hadn't even looked at flights! ).

However, I would be annoyed by the constant changed. Have you complained?

Lazypuppy · 05/08/2019 21:16

I always fly tui and never had a problem. All flight and hotel deals are detailed in the App, so when there have been changes they show there.

AnyFucker · 05/08/2019 21:18

Eek. Flying with them next month. Usually do Ryanair but Tui actually came out cheaper.

underneaththeash · 05/08/2019 21:23

But they’ll Only change when people start taking them to court. For some reason travel companies think that they are above the law.

Your holiday has to be ‘as described’ under the Consumer Act 2015 - there is no get out clause for travel companies.
We’re currently taking Cox and kings to small claims court for a similar thing.

Lemonlady22 · 05/08/2019 21:26

Booked with TUI, Thomas Cook and had independant flights (easy jet, ryan air, flybe) and have never has a major problem. TUI in Ibiza was rubbish, but been to the Caribbean, Asia and Africa with them and no problems. Thomas Cook flight to Cuba wasnt good, TVs never worked to the whole way there and when we landed the plane was grounded so the people flying back were delayed a couple of days. The cheapy flights have never been late, delayed or cancelled. Maybe ive been lucky!

borage13 · 05/08/2019 21:27

We got back from a TUI holiday today. The resort was lovely but anything we needed help with they just didn't give a toss. I'll be looking at a complaint and expecting it to go absolutely nowhere.
A good example is that we were in row 9 going there and back and they'd run out of hot food when they got to us both times....

Lemonlady22 · 05/08/2019 21:27

Just had a thought, our last holiday the transfer coach left without us....but all good as they booked us a taxi (TUI)!

SouthWestmom · 05/08/2019 21:31

Is First Choice linked to TUI? Booked with First Choice and the flights are TUI.

LIZS · 05/08/2019 21:35

Yes they are linked. Surprised that changes were not flagged when you logged on to check in. Surely there should be records of all changes to your booking and when notified. Can you check the app as mentioned by pp.
