AIBU to be upset when Friend brings porn to my house and shows my dd15

My dd’s friend brought a Karma 365 book to our house full of graphic photos of couples in different sexual positions and showed my dad. Apparently I’m over reacting when I shouted “what the hell is this!”. My husband says every teenager looks at porn and as we have taken off parental controls on our home network (ds is 17, dd 15) she could see worse on her phone or laptop. He says I should be more open or she won’t talk to me about sex if she has questions. I think it’s totally inappropriate and wanted to give the book to the girls mum and let her deal with it. Am I just too old fashion and a prude?

Why did she show your dad?

Someone at my school had that book and the joy of sex when were were 12-13. It is a right of passage, it was passed round all 90 girls in the year.

EmeraldShamrock · 04/08/2019 19:31

I think you need to apologise to DD and her friend.
Your reaction was way over the top, how is she going to ask your advice, share her fears and feelings.
You cant hide it from her but you can help her understand it.

MyAppleTree · 04/08/2019 19:33

Anyone remember More magazine and the unrealistic position of the week??

Same difference let it go.

Rainbow I’d have been calling the police on your brother. Sorry that’s fucked up!!

aliminimad · 04/08/2019 19:34

Ds and dd were allowed to bring a friend on holiday with us this year. I didn’t really know this girl before it was all booked, but she seemed nice and polite and dd has trouble making long-term friends. I thought it would be good to have friends of their own age with us in the villa.

ch3rrycola aged 13 my friend found her Dad's stash of porn mags which she just had to share this information with me. We waited until they went out shopping and had a good read Grin.

Sparklesocks · 04/08/2019 19:37

So your DD’s friend brought a sex book over to your house and showed your dad, aka her mate’s grandad? That is...odd

welliesarefuntowear · 04/08/2019 19:41

GrinGrin

welliesarefuntowear · 04/08/2019 19:43

Sorry I meant to add more to this. It's just the autocorrect has meant that DD has become Dad. I'm sorry op, I don't mean to laugh at your situation. However I don't think it's too shocking what happened, just mildly inappropriate.

FurnitureAndBackgammon · 04/08/2019 19:43

Ha ha ha OP means her DD not her DAD, I think Confused

Rainbow your DB needs locking up!

OhRuddyHell · 04/08/2019 20:14

If you've not got parental controls on you've got bigger things to worry about than this, trust me.

Oh and @rainbow what your brother did IS illegal (police officer in child protection)

Marriedwithchildren5 · 04/08/2019 20:14

I read as op's dad! Ah makes far more sense! Karma sutra v pronhub or magazines. I'd be ok with that. Not now obviously with a 9yo dd but 6 years time I'd laugh it off. Ask her if she has any questions Blush 😂

ShawshanksRedemption · 04/08/2019 20:15

That's just normal OP, I remember us all reading the racy bits out of Jackie Collins novels when I was her age at school! Or someone would bring in a copy of their mums magazines with Dr David Devlin describing sex and positions to get the best orgasm.

Ontheboardwalk · 04/08/2019 20:18

Get them some Judy Blume books to read on the holiday

Lazydaisies · 04/08/2019 20:19

OP stick to your guns. The world is fucking mad when a whole pile of women are down with 15 year old girls sharing porn. Porn is insidious, but not a positive influence for young girls and young boys. Just because it is widely available doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try to protect our kids from it.

mummypie17 · 04/08/2019 20:19

@Rainbowknickers how old is your brother? It's very disturbing if he's an adult showing a 9 year old child porn videos

tmh88 · 04/08/2019 20:27

I wouldn’t worry op. I remember my friend bringing round one of her mums magazines and being in hysterical laughter at some of the sex positions and the best hand job tips! I imagine they’ll be doing the same.

Loftyswops988 · 04/08/2019 20:28

I was reading this thinking the behaviour was barking mad and that the girl must be unhinged to have shown her friends grandad a Kama Sutra book but upon RTFT I can see it was a typo and you meant your DD! Changes things completely, and you did overreact! My friends and I looked at way worse things when we were 15 (albeit behind our parents backs!) but them looking at odd positions isn't too big a worry. A bit odd to bring the book on holiday to be fair, but not the worst thing in the world

TooManyPaws · 04/08/2019 20:35

At that age, we were all reading the racy Shirley Conran novels etc. Also page 25 of The Godfather. In fact, whatever we could lay our hands on. At least the Kama Sutra is about pleasure for both parties, unlike porn. I would class it more as erotic. And far better taste than those 50 Shades of Crap that you can buy in any supermarket.

Sagradafamiliar · 04/08/2019 20:36

That was in my school library along with similar books
Weird to show your dad though.

sparklefarts · 04/08/2019 20:46

I honestly really need @Rainbowknickers to come back and tell us she informed the police of her brothers behaviour

user1480880826 · 04/08/2019 20:48

Oh my god @Rainbowknickers!! That’s the sort of thing I would expect someone to be reported to the police for. That’s classic grooming territory.

browzingss · 04/08/2019 20:53

@Rainbowknickers jesus Christ, that’s not even remotely similar to OP’s situation, your brother is a nonce. Forcing a child to watch porn is illegal - I hope you reported him to the police.

OP, I think you’re overreacting. Not being funny but 17 year olds are well aware of sex (a lot of teens are already sexually active at that age too!). The book might be a bit trashy but it’s tame really.

Purplerain16 · 04/08/2019 20:53

YABU in my opinion.

Sex is sex. Porn is porn. She's probably seen worse or worse even sought it out for her own pleasure!

Be more open about it.

seasideramble · 04/08/2019 20:57

If this is the book I'm thinking of I'm not sure I'd class it as porn. Is it the position a day one. The photos aren't really that graphic.

Seems odd showing your dad though

slashlover · 04/08/2019 21:15

Anyone remember More Magazine? It used to have position of the fortnight in it!
