I have posted on aibu for traffic.
Our DD and family are on holiday so we are caring for her 2 dogs. The older dog(Gerald) has a life limiting illness and so cannot go for a walk. He's on 8 tablets a day, special diet. With the vets advice he doesn't go for a walk. We have a very big garden so he's happy. The younger dog (Cyril) gets taken for a walk late at night when my husband comes home. Otherwise I throw a ball around the garden for youngster to chase. He goes in and out of the garden most of the day.

Now to my point the nosey lady from across the road has just banged on my door and shouted at me that she is going to report me to the RSPCA for my cruel behaviour to these dogs. I don't walk them, she has said im not feeding as the older dog is very thin. I couldn't get a word in edge ways so just shut the door in her face. She then stood outside shouting and telling anyone who walked past.

Why do people interfere before knowing the true facts. Both dogs are trying to sit as close to me as the can. Snoring very loudly.

I'm sorry I can't post any photos as our DD comes on MN and I don't want her worring. Gerald and Cyril are not their real names.

She phoned 999 because she thought your dogs needed to be walked more?

Bloody hell I'd love to live in a world where that constituted an emergency!! Crazy lady.

Hope she's been set straight and there's no more issues.

Fleetheart · 05/08/2019 23:17

She sounds like a crazy lady. Do you normally get on ok with her?

Mamalicious16 · 05/08/2019 23:22

Ha ha. I had a batshit neighbour threatening to report me to the RSPCA as poor Roger was chucked out at night in the cold and rain and was hungry ( greedy ) starved of affection ( spoilt ) and was cold !!! FFS - told her HES A CAT! CATS GO OUT AY NIGHT. ( I May have told her to p off and get a life )

Stefoscope · 06/08/2019 00:02

Wow, your neighbour must literally have nothing going on in her life to have noticed you supposedly not walking a couple of dogs which I assume you've not been looking after for that long. I'm suprised and a bit disappointed that the Police even bothered to send a PCSO out. No doubt tomorrow she'll be dialling 999 because number 13's cat looked at her a bit funny.

Seriously though, I get the frustration. I own an older rescue greyhound who needs to be muzzled when out and about as he hasn't been properly socialized as a puppy and has the odd growl and grumble at passing dogs if they stare at him or bark. I constantly get people telling me I need to fatten him up even though he's a healthy weight. They also tell me it's cruel to muzzle him, even though it was a condition of me adopting him from Dog's Trust. Everybody's a fecking expert!

S1naidSucks · 06/08/2019 00:16

I’ve lost count of the number of people who have told me that my Yorkie is too skinny. I even had a woman (neighbour from further up the road) hand the leads of her two large dogs to her daughter, who already had two other big dogs, so she could cross the road to point out that my Yorkie was terribly underweight and they don’t have skinny bodies like that. I was with my youngest and we were walking six small dogs (I run a doggy daycare) in total, but I assume she had seen me with him before.

I pointed out that she was correct, Yorkie don’t have long skinny bodies like that. However, since he was actually a crossbreed, he was fed on a prescription diet that cost @ £3 a day and the vet was delighted with his weight, I’d take the word of the vet over her opinion. 🙄

Don’t worry OP, there are loads of dickheads about and unfortunately you have one for neighbour.

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/08/2019 01:43

I hope you told them of the neighbours threatening behaviour shouting on your doorstep.

Burlea · 06/08/2019 08:49

This neighbour has only lived across the road for a couple of months. I've said hello to her but not much else. My next door neighbour has heard she has history of phoning the police over anything at her last property. (Small town gossip). Gerald and Cyril have been with us for just over two weeks, another 2 weeks to go. DD and family have gone to Australia to visit her husbands family.
The pcso was lovely and very understanding, he told me that I have nothing to worry about and just to ignore her. And if she comes back then to phone the number he's given me.
It's going to be interesting today as Gerald has a check up at the vets.

Don’t worry, animal welfare charities are used to people ringing up about non-issues and are generally quite good at sifting those out from the actual welfare concerns. We used to get lots of calls about horses in ‘blindfolds’ - ie fly masks. Which was fine, always better to call if you’re concerned, unless the caller refused to believe that fly masks are a good thing and not an instrument of equine psychological torture...!

One of my colleagues was a former SSPCA officer who told me about a call he got from a council, who had a tenant who had filled his flat with soil to a depth of several feet, for his house rabbits. He said they were the happiest pet rabbits he’d seen for ages and left them to it Grin Gerald is clearly being cared for and is under veterinary supervision so if the RSPCA do turn up it will be for a cuddle (with Gerald and Cyril, though I’m sure you’re also v cuddly op) and a chat and that will be the end of it. Sorry you’re having to deal with a nutty neighbour - 999! I ask you 🙄

JaceLancs · 06/08/2019 09:04

I had a neighbour report me to RSPCA for neglecting my kitten (looked very thin, hair loss etc)
They soon checked he was under vet treatment (v expensive) for joint, hormone and stress related issues)
He’s fine now and much adored

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/08/2019 09:06

Old dogs often lose weight and muscle mass, especially if they cant get exercise.

She’s out of line.

But yes, police these days do seem younger.

madcatladyforever · 06/08/2019 09:11

Just ignore her. There is no reason for her to shout like a lunatic at you when she could just come over and say I have some concerns can we talk about it.
My 18 year old deaf cat looks a real mess but is very happy and goes to the vet every 2 weeks. All my neighbours are aware of her medical issues as we chat and DCat just goes about her business in peace.

Soubriquet · 06/08/2019 09:11

People judge all the time. It’s the way of life unfortunately

I remember seeing a boxer with her owner standing outside a shop.

She was incredibly skinny but I went to say hello anyway.

He was telling me about how they had just rescued her from a centre and she had been starved and was then so stressed in kennels she wasn’t gaining weight.

She was a lovely little dog and it’s easy to see why people judge.

madcatladyforever · 06/08/2019 09:12

Reading the rest of the post she is clearly crackers.

Songofsixpence · 06/08/2019 09:28

Years ago, I once had a knock on the door from an RSPCA inspector who had received reports our rabbit was being kept in a small cage with no food, water or bedding

Looked a bit blankly at him as we didn’t have a rabbit. Never had a rabbit.

Then it clicked, I was storing an empty guinea pig hutch along with some other stuff in our garage for a friend (buying a new build, finish date had gone awry, ended up in a temp rented flat)

Some nosy neighbour must have clocked the hutch when our garage door was open one day

I’d just ignore her, hopefully now the PCSO has spoken to her she’ll mind her own business

SkydivingKittyCat don't know what you are implying. Gerald and Cyril are not strays they are very loved family members.

Some people are just 🥜

Gravelface · 06/08/2019 09:57

@BloomingHydrangea

Oh aye - and how do you know this? Do you know the breed? Are you in fact the PITA neighbour? Are you MY know it all neighbour who doesn't own a dog, has never had a dog, doesn't seem to like dogs much - yet knows more about my dog than me?

My dog is a giant breed and thus only has one (often evening, since it's warm) walk per day. Cos she can't have more. Indeed, she mustn't have too much exercise.

Gerald is not his real name. As I have said previously our Dd comes on this site and if she thought it was her dog she would be distraught.
Vet is very pleased with him and laughed when I told him about neighbour.
Both dogs are on the sofa snoring which they like doing. Chicken will be going in the oven later for us and them for tea.

Gravelface · 06/08/2019 11:05

@Burlea

Watch it, your neighbour will be calling 999 on behalf of the chicken next.....

:-)

Burlea · 06/08/2019 11:12

We have a pair of rare breed spaniels (who a lot of ignorant numpties people decide are springier spaniels) and naturally they are quite slender with long legs and in certain lights you can see their last rib. These pups eat me out of house and home and are fed a proper comprehensive diet for working gundogs. Yet I have had people shout at me in the street to tell me that my girl is obviously starving and that I am a cold heartless bitch who doesn’t deserve dogs that I have had my whole life. They also don’t like being told that their cocker/King Charles/ Labrador/westie is actually incredibly fat and putting an immense amount of strain on the dogs heart and joints... who is cruel now? Interfering bastards
