to be going loopy trying to choose a new washing machine?

My washing machine has just died and won't spin and the repairman says it's not worth fixing it. It was an 8 year old Hoover with a great 1400 spin on all the cycles I used.

So I've been looking through a million different machines and just getting confused.

I want something 6-10kg capacity, minimum 1400 spin (that is on as many programmes as possible) where the 30/40 degree cycle doesn't take 4 hours.

Any recommendations? I have to dry things indoors without a tumble drier (live in a flat) so having a high spin is really important to me so that I don't have to have the heated airer on for too long.

Any recommendations? I have a budget of up to £400.

If you liked the old one, can you not just get the same again?

carrielou2007 · 04/08/2019 13:11

Samsung adwash 9k capacity the cotton wash weighs the washing so it only uses enough water for it (eco bubble I think it is called) so a half load instead of being 3 hours something is often an hour an a half. Plus the adwash is a godsend if you have kids who leave their clothes every where other than the laundry basket!!

MindDisco · 04/08/2019 13:12

Unfortunately it's been discontinued and I can't seem to figure out which Hoover is the closest as they've changed the ranges and they don't seem to make one so, for want of a better way to explain, basic. It didn't have a digital display, just a dial, and then you could just select max spin.

Bought a Bosch WAN28201GB recommended by Which? 1400 rpm. It's brilliant.

Under £400

I'd second a Samsung ecobubble machine, mine has been great and has lots of options. I'll be honest, I do most of mine on a 40 minute quick wash then pop it on to do a fast spin. Everything comes out clean and dries quickly (don't have a tumble dryer so a fast spin was important).

LightsInOtherPeoplesHouses · 04/08/2019 13:17

Oh, and I think my Samsung was about £300ish.

EenyMeenyMinyNo · 04/08/2019 13:17

I recently bought a Hisense 9kg 1400 spin.
Extremely happy with it, so, so quiet!! A standard/ average load takes 58 mins, largest load a smidge longer.

JangledBat · 04/08/2019 13:22

Bosch every time for me.

There's a speed perfect button to shorten all of the programmes, you can pause it to open the door if you forgot to put something in, and I like to use the timer to give oily clothes a long wash before I get up.

Ffs1608 · 04/08/2019 13:25

I bought this recently. I wanted 6kg+ with 1600spin. This is 8kg. The 8kg wash is 3h29 (though it analyses the load and adjusts time and water so is if I fill it it's about 2h30) There is a 59 min programme that does 8kg with 1200 spin. I have been using that most and then a 10 min 1600spin. It was a pain at first but I am used to it now. I also like the small 14 min and 30 min wash with 1600spin added. Hoover DOOC 68AC3 NFC 8KG

The think that put me off the Samsung Ecobubble was the fact you can't use tablet or washing detergent pods directly in the machine

That's why I went for the Bosch (and my previous Bosch had lasted over 25 years! and was still going strong when I got rid of it!)

whyamidoingthis · 04/08/2019 13:27

I'd second a Samsung ecobubble machine

We have a Samsung eco bubble. It's less than 5 years old and is dying. The shocks are gone and it's making very strange noises. It was ok but I'm not willing to go with the same again as I don't think it's brilliant.

I'm shamelessly coat tailing on this thread as I need a new one too Smile. Only thing I would add to the op's requirements is a hand wash programme. I'm also willing to go a bit pricier if necessary.

scaryteacher · 04/08/2019 13:33

I have an AEG (lavamat) that has 1400 spin on some of the programmes. It's lasted me since 2012 (iirc) in hard water Belgium. Bloody brilliant machine.

Happy with my Bosch with the speed perfect cycle which does a decent wash in an hour.

NoFucksImAQueen · 04/08/2019 13:50

I wouldn't remmondend the Samsung, ours is a nightmare and as soon as I googled, its prone to problems with the circuit board.

FamilyOfAliens · 04/08/2019 13:50

We always buy Bosch too.

And we buy from our local independent shop in town, so they only have a small range and I choose the one I want from that.

I would hate to spend days online trying to whittle the choice down from hundreds of different ones. It’s just a washing machine.

Ratonastick · 04/08/2019 13:56

I have a 9kg ecobubble too. The deciding factor was the hand wash cycle which I can heartily recommend. It also has an outdoor clothes cycle that I have used more than I expected. I must confess that I didn't know that I should not use pods and cheerfully chuck them into the drum and haven’t had an ill effects (hopefully not famous last words).

It’s all good and I am very happy with it, especially now that i’ve worked out how to switch off its jaunty little “I’ve finished” song.

MyBeloved · 04/08/2019 14:01

We have literally just got a new washing machine! A cheap as chips Hoover 7kg capacity 1400 spin for £249. Very pleased so far!

MiddleForDiddle · 04/08/2019 14:03

Ratonastick

How do you turn the tune off? Had ours for 5+ years and I've never figured it out. Annoys me quite irrationally!

PancakeAndKeith · 04/08/2019 14:03

I bought a Bosch a couple of months ago. Very happy with it.

Ratonastick · 04/08/2019 14:43

Middle. I can’t remember exactly, I found it on YouTube. You have to hold down a couple of buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds and it switches all its sounds off.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 04/08/2019 15:23

I wouldn't buy a Samsung, ours was awful and I replaced it for a Miele 11 months later. I have to say the Miele's spin is amazing and has drastically cut our drying time.

SusannahD · 04/08/2019 15:27

I have this one, normal cycle just over a hour, washes really well.

TheInebriati · 04/08/2019 15:35

I'm looking for a washing machine with a manual switch not an electronic switch, so I can use it with a timer. This feature isn't listed on any of the specs and no one knows what I am talking about.

BambooWhoosh · 04/08/2019 15:53

I've got a Bosch series 4 which is fantastic. You can specify the rpm and temp for each wash. Mine spins at max 1400 rpm & most washes take just an hour. I can do a 15 min wash also.
If you upgrade to the Bosch series 6 (approx £419), you get a bigger drum.
Very quiet too.
