Nc’d and posting for traffic

So we have finally managed to reduce our bills in life to as little as possible. We bought a small cottage outright!
Our bills as it stands are
Electricity
Insurance house/life
Car insurance/tax
Fuel
Food
Phone bills x2
Childcare (term time only)

That’s it! (I think) 😬 I feel like I’m constantly missing something! I need to relax (like I thought I would be) but I’m feeling restless and uneasy! AIBU am I missing something HUGE that will jump up and bite me.
We are not in uk.

And extra-curricular stuff because I see that as part of the cost of choosing to be a parent rather than a luxury.

What a strange way of thinking.

cafenoirbiscuit · 03/08/2019 18:56

Ooooh congrats !

Pipandmum · 03/08/2019 18:56

Sounds good. Now you need to save some money for your future and unexpected things - house repairs? kids’ higher education? Trips? If one of you dies/gets sick and can’t work? Retirement?

Grinchly · 03/08/2019 18:58

Pension and savings

KatewithaH · 03/08/2019 18:59

Enough savings to pay to replace electrical items and maintenance to your home.

timshelthechoice · 03/08/2019 19:00

Taxes, gym, water, pension, savings (in case your home needs a repair or some type of service) and investment, car maintenance, clothes and shoes, subscriptions/clubs (don't your kids do any activities?), gifts, holidays/travel, cleaning supplies, grooming (haircuts, body care products). Sorry, but from your list I'd not want to live that kind of life.

transformandriseup · 03/08/2019 19:02

Something big to come and bite you? That’s a bit rude.

Well done OP, it’s a great feeling as I’ve done it myself. Maybe you could put aside a bit each month for car repairs/services.

gowgow · 03/08/2019 19:09

You've done it, so congratulations.

No going back, so why did you invite MNetters to tell you what you might have forgotten after the event?

Eggproducer · 03/08/2019 19:11

I am in a similar position.

I have definitely noticed that children get more expensive as they get older (some stuff like clothes and shoes, obviously, but they start wanting piano lessons, and can no longer be fobbed off that a trip to the park is a "treat).

Other than that, try to have an emergency £5k or so in case of unexpected car repairs / boiler / unexpected redundancy etc. Make sure you top it back up again if you take from it.

Nosavingshere · 03/08/2019 19:15

Good for you and your small bills and your extra curricular activities and your car costs that you haven't accounted for. Yes, I do think something big will come and bite you. bitter much?
Tv lic op.?

skybluee · 03/08/2019 19:16

How do you manage not to pay for water!
Are you happy where you are?
Are you in Europe?

sackrifice · 03/08/2019 19:16

ood for you and your small bills and your extra curricular activities and your car costs that you haven't accounted for. Yes, I do think something big will come and bite you.

Wow jealous much???

Well done OP, we are due to pay off the mortgage in a couple of months after overpaying and managed to reduce it from 25 years to 13. All our extra £ is going into pension funds.

Freedomyeah · 03/08/2019 19:18

@timeisnotaline there’s no water rates here where I live.
@timshelthechoice no gym as I do home workouts, yes the children do activities I stated that in a pp

As for holidays...yes we go on holidays
Grooming...yes I have my nails and hair done and the odd spa weekend, thats all consumer based living imo and not essential for living!! They are luxuries are they not?? there’s nothing wrong with the way we live at all Confused

Freedomyeah · 03/08/2019 19:21

@gowgow for exactly the reasons I said... I had a stressy feeling I was forgetting something so thought I would get opinions?? That is all.

Bourbonbiccy · 03/08/2019 19:22

It's like you are always forgetting to account for something..ahhhhh it's Pay mortgage...oh wait, don't need to 🤗🤗🤗
Embrace it and enjoy. Watch that unused mortgage money build up in a separate account somewhere.

I wouldn't count kids clothes in there either.

I can't think of anything you have missed really, seems like you have it all in hand 🍹🍹🎂🎂🍷🍷

timshelthechoice · 03/08/2019 19:24

Exactly, Egg. School trips, going out with mates, driving lessons, uni, pocket money, phones, etc

Flavabobble · 03/08/2019 19:24

Consumer- based, but they're still regular bills if you have them regularly.
I'd be adding child- based bills and putting aside x amount for the general fripperies of life to the list of bills.

timshelthechoice · 03/08/2019 19:25

I count kids clothing as mine are teens and uniform, sports kit, plus clothing they want to wear add up, especially as they grow a lot as teens and usually they are in adult sizes with VAT on the items.

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 19:28

I'm about to do the same OP congratulations!

I can only think of fine wines!! Grin

I don't need gym/have a car/buy much/have water rates either!
I also need to buy seeds for own food. (some of it)

WhatTiggersDoBest · 03/08/2019 19:30

IDK what country you're in but have you found a company to empty the bins/take the recycling? Some places, that's all organized and paid for privately by homeowners/renters, as I found out when looking at our options lately. Also do you have oil fired central heating (or is that inc. in fuel?) because oil deliveries need arranging/paying for, if so.

timshelthechoice · 03/08/2019 19:30

How do you get free water? Do you have a well?

EmmaC78 · 03/08/2019 19:32

Just curious about how local services like bin collections and road repairs get paid for if there is no council tax? Is it all from central taxes?

mindproject · 03/08/2019 19:32

I would love to pay no council tax; it is my biggest bill by far, and keeps on going up every year. Where can I move that I would pay no council tax?

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 03/08/2019 19:34

Oh man, this is the dream lived.

The only one I can think of is pet insurance? Do you have pets?

Soosiesue · 03/08/2019 19:38

We don’t pay for water in Northern Ireland either for those that are surprised by no water bill

Well done OP. Enjoy it
