To think this is late for an 11 year old?

I know it's the school holidays, but I'm surprised at the time a lot of ds, 11yo friends seem to go to bed.

Ds goes up about 9pm, usually asleep by 10pm. I let him watch a film in my room or read until he's ready to go to sleep, as it's the holidays I've let him watch the laptop a few times.

His phone is still buzzing now at gone 11 with friends ringing and texting, he's been fast asleep since about 9.30pm. A couple of the dc were bragging that they stayed up until 4 in the morning.

Aibu to think it's too late. Occasionally ds would stay up really late for example if we are on holiday, or if he had a sleepover, but generally asleep for 10pm is late enough isn't it?

@Gottoloveabagel it's worth it because we get to spend more time together in the evening, especially if we are away visiting family or on holiday. It means we don't have to rush around like we do on school mornings or evenings to get my dd to do things at a certain time. I'm a night owl so I wouldn't want her to wake early in the morning, I'd rather we could go out to dinner and see family late in the evening without worrying that we aren't near a bed by 7/8pm.

I'll send mine up about 10 at home but they pfaff til 11 r after. They sleep in til 9 r 10 tho. I work from home n they do couple camps which don't start til 10 so no rushing to get up for them. They not allowed devices in bedrooms tho.

"Well I have to say - rather you than me with the early starts"

Am I the only one here who has to be up for work and kids dropped to various childcare during the summer holidays? Or are you just talking about weekends?

Mine struggle to switch back and forth between different body clocks from one day to the next so they're still up at the weekends. When we're away on holiday they do adjust after a few nights though luckily.

I usually tell my DS (12) to switch off at 11 in the holidays. Sometimes I fall asleep before then so he might be up a bit later, other Times he looses track of time if I am not on his back and it will be a bit later. Never after midnight though. His friends are regularly on Xbox/chat at 11pm. I doubt those saying they were up til 4 really were unless on a sleepover. Even then they are all usually crashed by about 1.

My DS will sleep in until at least 10 most days, often later.

It would be too late for mine. They have to be up at 7am on the days I go to work or if we're going out somewhere.

DS (12) wanted to play Xbox with his friend who was on a sleepover. They wanted to do an all nighter and as it was the holidays and didn’t have to be anywhere I let him. He did stay awake all night.. crashed for 4 hours in the afternoon, was in bed by 9 and still asleep now!

It’s the holidays and I am much more relaxed over bed times - he has to be in bed when we go to bed which is generally about 10.30 as we have to go to work. All electronics are downstairs and no tv etc are in his bedroom.

We are quite slack about bedtimes in the holidays. My 9 yo often goes to bed around 10-11pm but i make sure he gets to bed earlier if i am working the next day and he needs to be at a holiday club.

I put the dogs to bed around 11pm and once I’ve settled them the kitchen is “closed” and everyone goes to their rooms. The dss are 24, 22 and 13 and they can do pretty much what they want, for as long as they want, in their rooms as long as they don’t disturb the dogs.
