What the hell do I do with my hair!?

I’m 25, I’m a big with with a round face. At the moment I have quite thick hair which comes down to just below my boobs. It’s flat, boring, heavy and lifeless. I have a hair apt this morning and I need help!

I will get it thinned, but other than that I just don’t know what to do. Would a fringe suit a fat face or make it worse? Grin Aside from having the split ends off, is shorter better? I just worry it will age me/make me look even bigger..

I’m just so bored of it at the moment. It looks lifeless whatever I do to it!

@SuzieQQQ I have very long hair which I'm often complimented on. I'm in my 60s.

Yes OP a side fringe looks good on round faces.

supercee · 01/08/2019 09:35

*now

S1naidSucks · 01/08/2019 09:43

Well at 25 I think you’re too old to have hair below your boobs! Get it cut shorter to shoulder level and thinned out and layered. Maybe also some fouls? what a load of bollocks! 😆

S1naidSucks · 01/08/2019 09:47

Out of interest, what's the last age you can have long hair?

You’d be better asking SuzieQQQ, she appears to be the judge in that. 🤣

CustardDonuts · 01/08/2019 09:51

How about having it feathered? Would frame your face lovely and agree with other posters about a side fringe but not to thick.

🤔 I'm closer to 30 than 25 and my hair is past my boobs, makes it easier to style it.

CampfireZen · 01/08/2019 09:56

If you have any natural wave in your thick hair, something like this would look great:

Good luck whatever you decide and let us know how it went!

Before/after pics maybe?!

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 01/08/2019 09:56

SuzieQQQ it was mean because it implied judgement based on a set of outdated, stereotypical rules designed to fit women into neat pigeonholes, which suggest erroneously that there is only one approved way to look at any given point in time. It's the sort of comment that if allowed to stand unchallenged could make someone with low self-esteem about their appearance and/or their age feel even worse about themselves.

Saying "personally I preferred to cut my hair short when I hit my mid-20s" is one thing, but presenting your misguided opinion that ALL women over a certain age must have short hair as an immutable fact is pretty daft.

Musicalmistress · 01/08/2019 09:57

Ask your hairdresser? It’s part of their job to advise clients on styles to suit their face/colouring/lifestyle - my hairdresser knows I’m a wash & go kinda girl so need a style that doesn’t need hours of fussing!

BustedDreams · 01/08/2019 09:58

Very well put @TheTitOfTheIceberg 👏

BillieEilish · 01/08/2019 09:59

I'm 48 with long hair Smile It's glorious, blondeish and I love it.
OP do what YOU want.

Funghi · 01/08/2019 09:59

Out of interest, what's the last age you can have long hair?

I believe it’s 10 years and 6 months, not a day later.

BillieEilish · 01/08/2019 10:02

...I didn't clarify, I wanted my usual blonde, blonde, HD did a more 'natural' look, he was right, I look 10 yrs younger.

I agree with PP about trusting your HD, put get the top stylist, always.

Teacakeandalatte · 01/08/2019 10:02

Arf at 25 being old, are you my teenage dd?

FenellaVelour · 01/08/2019 10:02

I have long hair, but at my age I’d struggle to grow my hair below my boobs 😬

Layers would give it some shape and I agree that highlights or balayage would look fabulous and liven it up.

northernknickers · 01/08/2019 10:02

@SuzieQQQ I think you mistake 'mean' for 'incredibly fucking rude'!

Your comment 'too old' (at 25!!!!! Seriously!!) was 'mean'.

If you'd (as you suggest!) instead, said that long hair would make someone 'look like a slapper', THAT would tip you over into 'incredibly fucking rude'. As opposed to just 'mean'. Can you see the difference?

As I said in my original post, you are definitely entitled to your opinion...but it's still an unfounded one based on your own preferences. And yes, saying she's 'too old at 25' is mean (and weird!!)

I actually can't fathom how you think 25 is too old for long hair...regardless of your very entitled opinion 🤷‍♀️

CruellaFeinberg · 01/08/2019 10:02

@SuzieQQQ

and at 30, you should shave your head and join a convent....?

btw - WTF is Maybe also some fouls?

HazelBite · 01/08/2019 10:08

How long is long? when you get past 40.
It very much depends on the individual, I have seen women with long greying hair that just looks dull and ageing, and seen older women with nicely styled and kept long hair that looks lovely.

I only started gradually "shortening" my long hair in my mid 40's (my very outspoken D Sis would have told me if my hair wasn't suitable for my age)

botoxbeckons · 01/08/2019 10:11

Fucking hell - 25 isn’t too old for anything!!

Another ancient old crone here with inappropriately long hair. I’m in my 50s, my friends range from late 30s to late 50s. Lots of us have long hair. We all look bloody great - and not just ‘for our age’, or whatever the fuck mealy-mouthed expression is usually attached to any woman out of puberty.

OP, sorry, your thread’s been a bit hijacked by the first comment Grin. Agree with side swept fringe being a flattering look, and layers are good for shape and body and lightening heavy hair. Otherwise keep it as long as you like, with the caveat that it needs to be in best poss condition; no straggly frizzled ends or whatnot. And take a picture with you if you can find one you like, so there’s no misunderstanding. Hope it looks lovely and you’re pleased with the result x

FairNotFair · 01/08/2019 10:11

Cruella I was wondering about "fouls" too!

(On another note: as well as not having long hair over the age of 25, we also shouldn't wear patent-leather shoes, as they will reflect our underwear Grin)

diddl · 01/08/2019 10:12

I think that collar bone length hair is flattering for a lot of people.

Does thinning it out make it less flat & lifeless, Op?

I have longish hair in my 50s as it's just easy to wash & leave to dry.

I don't think age matters if you're happy with your hair.

Youwanapizzame · 01/08/2019 10:18

@GrumpyMcGrumpFace .... fuck... (((sidles off to remove badge)))

supercee · 01/08/2019 10:19

Did she mean foils?

Beautiful3 · 01/08/2019 10:19

Im 37 with a round face, and straight shoulder length hair. All one length. I like it like that. I've tried a side fringe and it caused spots on my forehead so I grew that out. Ask the hair dresser what they think would look nice.

Beautiful3 · 01/08/2019 10:23

Just to add the only change I've had in the last 18 years has been my hair colour. I've gone from platinum blonde to a light brown. I resisted my hairdressers advice for years. Now I've had it done, I look so much younger. I wish I had it more natural years ago.

Greenglassteacup · 01/08/2019 10:23

Bloody Nora, didn’t realise there was a mid 20’s cut off my long hair. I’m
45 and I have long hair. How dare I?!’ No shame. OP, be careful with thinning of thick hair, I find that it ends up looking frizzy if I have it thinned out, it’s better with long layers
