To be glad that Love Island is finally bloody finished

All I have heard at work and in the press for the last few weeks is Love island this and love Island that. Is it really that important when there are so many other issues that really do affect us.

I have heard one comment about it this morning. I am so pleased.

What the hell makes such a program with vacuous self loving people so important anyway

Theres 2 seris, next year!!!

AuntieStella · 31/07/2019 19:01

I watched it for the first time this year (because teen DD was watching for the first time, so I thought I'd better know what it's about). Because I really didn't know much about it (just reality show on island involving a lot is swimwear) - it really hasn't been difficult to avoid in previous years.

And at least if Gilette do go with "the best a Mam can get" for their next campaign, I'll know what they're on about

crikeycrumbsblimey · 31/07/2019 19:10

I don’t watch as I don’t want to, anyone else is entitled to watch it.

However it being the only topic of conversation for some people for weeks is really really dull for those of us who don’t choose to watch it. I mean shut up it’s just a TV programme!!!!!

Patroclus · 31/07/2019 19:20

Yes its shit but we had the same thing for years with Big Brother.

shieldmaidenofrohan · 31/07/2019 19:21

Never seen it, don't have a TV so I've never seen any reality shows. It sounds like the most unbelievably boring waste of time to me, from the precis my colleague gave me the other day when they were all talking about it but as for being glad it's over ? I'm utterly ambivalent to it 😆

shieldmaidenofrohan · 31/07/2019 19:23

Although I did see a fellow cake maker on Instagram had done a tidy number of her "Love Island cupcake box" that she sold especially for the final so next year I might have to find out a bit more lol

StillCoughingandLaughing · 31/07/2019 19:33

YABU. It’s a terrible programme, but your TV has an off switch and web pages have a handy little cross in the corner - click it and they go away. Conversations about it are harder to avoid if people insist on having them in the middle of the office, but that’s life - sometimes we all have to tune out of background noise.

I’d rather watch mould grow on a flannel, but six million people disagree with me, so it’s not going anywhere.

Ilovesweatybollocks · 31/07/2019 19:53

Can't stand it and so I avoid it and anything about it. Utter rubbish. Contestants seem to try and outdo each other with how thick and uneducated they are. I heard there's gonna be a winter and a summer series next year. I hope it was a wind up cos one series a year is bad enough

PositiveVibez · 31/07/2019 20:05

YABU. I'm just hoping they're going to start showing LI USA here

Me too 😊

I can't stand these insufferable bores who have to make a point of letting people know that they are far too superior and intelligent to watch Love Island and the like🙄

There is a woman in work like this. But wants to chat about the stuff she likes to watch on the telly, which isn't exactly my cup of tea.

Do I moan or roll my eyes? No. I will humour her, or even watch an episode to chat about it with her.

ilovesooty · 31/07/2019 20:16

Not something I've wat he'd but people like different things. Live and let live. People who moan about football coverage annoy me...

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/07/2019 20:18

It's fun and entertaining.

WorraLiberty · 31/07/2019 20:19

And @WorraLiberty - when it's all you here people waffle on about for weeks it gets kind of boring. Almost as bad as football bores.....

Yes I get that but you're blaming the show when you should be blaming the people for being bores.

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/07/2019 20:21

Insufferable bores are insufferable bores, no matter what they are boring on about.

PeriComoToes · 31/07/2019 20:31

Is it nasty like Big Brother? Never watched it but suspect DD will want to watch it next time round.

demelza82 · 31/07/2019 20:33

Basic TV for basic people #sorrynotsorry

ForalltheSaints · 31/07/2019 21:06

What has been suggested is that there are things that are essentially being done under false pretenses. Scripted conversations (or re-shot ones), and only a few of the contestants going through the application process.

Assuming you have to pay to phone/text vote, then that is a consumer rip-off issue. Obtaining money by deception as it were.

Aprillygirl · 31/07/2019 21:32

So you haven't heard one comment about it this morning and yet you felt compelled to start a thread about it? Haha. This is exactly where people like you with your 'moral superiority' show yourselves up for what you are. So funny.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 31/07/2019 21:41

You do not have to pay to vote! It's free on the free app.

PookieDo · 31/07/2019 22:05

^its free

I think the money ITV makes comes from endorsement deals and merch, not the voting. Uber eats sponsored them this year, V05 send in hair products, clothes companies give the contestants clothes

It doesn’t seem to be as nasty as BB no, but then it isn’t 24 hour streaming. I think it’s heavily produced so it doesn’t go off the rails into Big Brother territory

Most of the contestants seem to make very strong friendships and as much as it is about finding love I think people love watching people make good friends too. This year was very friendship heavy and they didn’t show hardly anything sexual and I think they choose contestants differently year on year. Year 1 and 2 was slightly out of control, a lot of smoking on screen and a lot of sex. But it’s more commercial now, far more than BB. But less wooden than TOWIE

PookieDo · 31/07/2019 22:07

Frankly speaking some of the most fun I have had this summer is the very funny and clever memes people make on Instagram after each show. I like to watch it then go see the memes! Some of them are brilliant

PookieDo · 31/07/2019 22:15

My mum is a TV snob. If it’s not written by some Scandinavian woman and doesn’t have an eerie Murderous who dunnit plot or some complex imaginary sci-fi thing she won’t watch it. And she bangs on about these dreary dramas for hours as if watching them gives her a superior edge and more intellectual

After a long day at work some people want to sit down and watch people be silly, funny, fall in love, say stupid things whether it be Im A Celeb, This Morning, Love Island whatever doesn’t make us vacant or silly or idiots. It’s just a preference and it doesn’t define a whole group of people. To brand everyone in this way is ignorant

I will watch nature, history and science documentaries till the cows come home, I love reading, also love Marvel Universe films. I also love watching How It’s Made on YouTube because it’s mindlessly soothing.

shrumps · 31/07/2019 22:15

It's shit, tedious nonsense but so was Big Brother and I was obsessed with that when it was good. It's just telly: no need to get worked up about it.

Benes · 31/07/2019 22:19

TV snobbery strikes again 🙄

MashedSpud · 31/07/2019 22:26

I’m glad it’s over too. No doubt a new series will start in a few months. 😒

Benes · 31/07/2019 22:31

Sometimes shit TV is exactly what you need.
My DH is in the final stages of his PhD. It's stressful and exhausting .....he really got into LI this year because it didn't require any thinking. He also got into dress to impress and dinner date. 😂
