“Mine is inh bedroom with a King-size divan that is too big to move completely.” We had a mouse die slap bang in the middle of the tiny space under our bed. Knew nothing about it until the decomposition process made itself known Sad Recently found another deceased behind some boxes ... our cats cause more of a mouse problem than they could ever solve.

AndSheWas85 · 31/07/2019 14:14

RE the tip traps which really do work, it's best to buy a good few and a lot of peanut butter.
It look about 3 days to get the little fella in there, but it worked, caught and released humanely.
Never had another problem with mice, or was overrun with them.

Ticklemeelmo · 31/07/2019 14:15

Humane traps don't work at all. Use the wooden snap ones with chocolate

AndSheWas85 · 31/07/2019 14:21

Here's a good example of the humane traps in action. Smile

Absolutely agree with the people saying don't get a cat.

My cat used to bring live mice in all the time and he would announce himself with a loud meow as he came through the cat flap.

These were wood mice though not house mice. Very cute to look at, but passing one on the stairs going up as I was going down one morning, did not amuse me, especially as it was about the third mouse I'd had to remove that morning.

AndSheWas85 · 31/07/2019 14:37

@pigsDOfly
Did it have clogs on?

Sorry, sorry, I couldn't resistGrinBlush

pigsDOfly · 31/07/2019 14:40

@AndSheWas85

Sorry if I'm being dim but I don't understand the clogs question Blush Can you explain please.

Nat6999 · 31/07/2019 14:42

If you can find where they got in, block the holes with wire wool, I used cheap brillo pads, also any holes indoors, a mouse can get through a hole the size of a pencil.

ShetlandWife · 31/07/2019 14:42

Get a cat

Don't! I have one. I also had a mouse in my house this morning because the cat caught it and took it inside to play with..

I had to catch it and put it back outside.

AndSheWas85 · 31/07/2019 14:50

@pigsDofly
Sorry, it's from a song my grandmother used to sing called A Windmill in Amsterdam. The verse was

I saw a mouse!
(Where?)
There on the stair!
(Where on the stair?)
Right there!
A little mouse with clogs on
Well I declare!
Going clip-clippety-clop on the stair
Oh yeah!

I thought it was a well known one.

Anyone...?

No, just me then. Ignore Blush

pigsDOfly · 31/07/2019 14:52

@AndSheWas85. Okay, I've googled it and found the little song/poem 'A little mouse with clogs on'. Now I understand.

To answer your question, no it didn't have clogs on. That would definitely have amused me. Grin

aliensprig · 31/07/2019 14:54

Some utterly disgusting comments on this thread.

Please don't kill it. You can buy humane, plug-in gadgets that emit high pitched noise, the mice don't like it and will leave. Cheaper and no messy remains/horrible smells to deal with.

Seriously. It's a tiny little mouse. It can't hurt you. It's probably terrified of you, poor thing. Please be compassionate.

pigsDOfly · 31/07/2019 14:55

@AndSheWas85 X post. Thanks for that. Something I've never come across before.

FilledSoda · 31/07/2019 15:02

Please do not kill it.
I've always been able to corner them, scoop up in a tea towel and release.
It doesn't need to die.

mummymeister · 31/07/2019 15:03

aliensprig - its vermin. it will chew things, it will shit on things. it will contaminate your food. its a pest. get a grip. Snapback traps kill them quickly and humanely. lay them near to the wall with bait and check regularly. also keep all food away - mice can get through a hole the size that a pencil makes when you push it through a bit of paper so pest proofing your home is almost impossible. in flats they run along service ducts so even harder. Plug ins do not work.

LaurieMarlow · 31/07/2019 15:03

Please don't kill it.

They are vermin and can cause serious problems with wiring/electricity in your house.

Grown up.

LaurieMarlow · 31/07/2019 15:04

You can buy humane, plug-in gadgets that emit high pitched noise, the mice don't like it and will leave.

These don’t work.

Cyclemad222 · 31/07/2019 15:04

Baffled by people saying traps are inhumane. Mice are vermin. They carry disease. Don't be so bloody wet.

It's arguably inhumane to take a mouse that has only ever known a house setting, trap it, bump it around on the way to a park and release it into a completely alien setting. Probably full of cats.

Would you trap cockroaches humanely as well? I'm all for protecting wildlife but mice are not that.

checkeredredshorts · 31/07/2019 15:07

I bet most people who are saying don't kill it don't know the damage they can do to your home once they get in and start reproducing.

We had a horrific time.

They burrowed from the garden into the house through a gap in the brick work.

There were at least ten and they would run about in the walls, between the floorboards, chewed wires, chewed furniture, pissed everywhere so the house stunk, shit everywhere. It was truly awful.

We tried humane traps where they can be released back outside, then tried snap traps, bait boxes, nothing worked.

We had pest control deal with it using very strong poisons and it was dealt with very quickly.

I feel no guilt after my my house and in particular by baby boys bedroom was completely taken over by horrendous smells and scurrying about.

checkeredredshorts · 31/07/2019 15:08

I would also like to add, they are vermin, the are filthy and full of diseases. I don't want them in my home.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 31/07/2019 15:09

The high pitched noise plug in worked for me.

We put a trap with poison down as well but that was untouched and the mouse vanished a few days after we put the plug in in.

DottieLottie1 · 31/07/2019 15:13

There's a rat in your kitchen, what are you gonna do? Grin

DerelictWreck · 31/07/2019 15:27

What I'm concerned about with using the bait (poison) traps is not knowing if it's been an eaten any and therefore problem solved.

This is the first clue that there were even mice in the building! I've seen no droppings, no food eaten etc and given that there are things like porridge sachets living on end of my kitchen counter which are un-nibbled, I'm hoping this was it coming inside for the first time. How naive am I being Grin

Havaina · 31/07/2019 15:30

@Heymummee

Also humane traps are good but you have to release them far away or they just come back.
Please don’t use sticky traps or snap traps, they are awful.

This is terrible advice about not using snap traps, they’re not awful, sticky traps are awful.

Much better to use snap traps because if you catch and release the mouse miles away it will not survive long without it’s family.

stilldontgiveaf · 31/07/2019 15:33

Where there is one mouse, there's actually at least five. And they make so many babies so quickly 😭 I had this problem a few years ago but couldn't afford pest control to come in. Traps never worked and used poison but that meant I'd find dead mice in my house. 😳
