My neighbour just died.

My neighbour died today. He was not old. It looks like an accidental overdose. I was called by his panicked lodger and I tried to see if I could save him. I think he had been dead a while although she said he was breathing moments before. I feel very sad seeing him like that and I feel almost like I have intruded on him. But I had to help out and try to comfort the lodger who was in a terrible state of shock and distress. I feel strangely calm despite this event and that doesn’t feel right. I felt a bit cold because I managed to check his body and call the police and talk to his friends etc. I don’t know why I’m writing on here. Just to share with strangers so I hope no one minds me writing it here. I really hope I’m not upsetting or offending anyone. I don’t have anyone to talk to apart from the children and I’m trying to keep them from any distress.

If this all happened in the south of Essex then the police may well be doing more investigating.
www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-essex-49175993 There have been several drug related deaths in that area in the last few days.

It's a good idea to get out of your house with the children, lock the door and let the lodger sort herself and the friends out, though if you are aware of relatives of this neighbour, then it might be a good idea to get the lodger to call them or to call them yourself.

The neighbour's house needs to be secured or you never know what or who you might find moving in, if the friends are also drug users. Squatters are hard to shift.

Maybe the LA or the police have some idea of how to go about securing the house?

It isn’t the ones in Essex but I did read about that.
Very good point about squatters. That would be awful. The police are not interested in the house or occupants and said it was fine for the lodger and family to carry on living there as normal. They are not securing it and I suppose we will have to wait and see what happens next. The lodger has not called me today after all. We did contact my neighbour’s family so I suppose they might come and secure the house.
