To lie to online doctors?

WeeCharlotte · 29/07/2019 16:16

I am able to get a prescription for a particular contraceptive pill from my GP, who knows my weight/BMI and agrees that this pill is suitable despite being badly overweight (give me a break, I'm losing a lot and eating healthily)
The issue is that I am working FT and appointments at the doc are like hen's teeth, so I've just bought online (from a reputable pharmacy).
Despite the fact that my own GP has assessed this as suitable for someone of my weight, online doctors will just automatically say no when they see my BMI.
AIBU to lie to them and say I'm a healthy weight? There was no Facetime consultation, just filling in loads of forms.
Do they have access to my medical records? I ticked the box to say I didn't want them to contact my doctor, and the order has gone through and been approved, but I just don't want my GP to pull me up on the deception the next time I go (if I can even get an appointment!)
Given that a face to face GP thinks it appropriate, AIBU to lie? A pregnancy would be a disaster.

I wouldn’t lie.

Does your gp offer telephone appointments for repeat prescriptions?

Gruntvsgunt · 29/07/2019 16:19

Very unreasonable. If anything went wrong there is a prescriber in this who will be dragged over the coals until it came to light you had lied, you shouldn’t be putting anyone in the position of prescribing without true information

Whatisthisfuckery · 29/07/2019 16:22

I’d do whatever you need to get what you need tbh. These online doctors will prescribe any old shit to anyone who pays the fee ime.

Why don’t you have it on repeat though? I thought the pill stayed on repeat and you had your BP done every 6 months? or at least that was how it worked when I took it. Has it changed or is there something else going on here?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 29/07/2019 16:25

Are you also lying about having recently had a blood pressure test?

I'd be more worried about that... although I used to have a friend who did this, until her doctor pulled her up on it and said that although she'd opted out of contact, which meant a letter wasn't sent to her GP saying what they'd prescribed, it was all still on her medical records. That pharmacy won't prescribe to her anymore. I don't know if there was more to it than that, because I wasn't there, but it would put me off making a habit of this.

I'd probably do it as a one-off if I needed too. Your GP has the benefit of being able to assess you every six months and see what the risks are, online pharmacies don't, so they have to be safer and you might be inadvertently putting yourself at risk of something horrible if you don't get checked often.

Yousicktwistedfruit · 29/07/2019 16:35

Would it not of just been easier to go to your local sexual health clinic and get your pill from there that’s what I use to do when I couldn’t get in to the doctors.

WeeCharlotte · 29/07/2019 16:35

I've cancelled the online order, even though they told me it wouldn't have gone on my NHS record anyway. Felt bad.
No, I didn't lie about the blood pressure, which is fine. It was only the BMI, and seems stupid when a doctor who can see me is sure it is fine.
Normally on repeat, but there are issues with repeat prescriptions at the moment and the surgery is undergoing an overhaul. Nothing sinister.

Can I just say that I paid for private contraceptive injection because I couldn't get appointments. They never weighed me took blood pressure or sent any info to my Docs. I finally managed to get an appointment and told them because on my notes it said I still had the implant in which I had privately removed. Nothing had been sent to my docs at all.

HairyFloppins · 29/07/2019 16:56

Was this superdrugs? I am obese and put in my height and weight and it let me have access to virtually any pill I wanted even though my GP wouldn't let me have the combined pill.

OpenYourEyes · 29/07/2019 17:00

I do it. My doctor won't prescribe me a particular pill because I admitted my sister had had a vlood clot. She isn't on the pill I want. she also drinks a lot and smokes.
I have no risk factors but couldn't have it because my sister's clot.

I just buy it now online and have done for years.

pigsDOfly · 29/07/2019 17:03

Don''t know about you being unreasonable to lie, but I think it's pretty horrifying that doctors are able to prescribe things to patients they've never seen and without any access to their medical records. I didn't know that was possible.

Or am I misreading your OP?

MsChanandlerBoing · 29/07/2019 17:10

If it was Lloyd’s pharmacy - I would always be weighed and have my BP checked with pharmacist before they give me the prescription so they would have rumbled you.

GabsAlot · 29/07/2019 17:16

You can also get through the sexual health clinic in your area-im over weight but they have no problem with that and they do checvk my bp aswell

Bookworm4 · 29/07/2019 17:18

Quite surprised at the casual attitude towards your health and disregard of medical advice from PP here.

Feelingwalkedover · 29/07/2019 17:23

I had no idea we can get the pill on line
Is it still free .how do I get it

AllFourOfThem · 29/07/2019 17:26

My nurse can prescribe the pill for me so maybe you can see if it’s similar at your surgery so you don’t need to struggle to get a GP appointment.

Passthecherrycoke · 29/07/2019 17:28

I’d lie. Tbh that’s sort of what’s going to happen with online prescription isn’t it? It’s one of the advantages

DerelictWreck · 29/07/2019 17:30

If it was Lloyd’s pharmacy - I would always be weighed and have my BP checked with pharmacist before they give me the prescription so they would have rumbled you.

Same, when you go to pick it up they check these.

Sorryisntgoodenough · 29/07/2019 17:54

Normally on repeat, but there are issues with repeat prescriptions at the moment

Can you not just nominate a local pharmacy so the dr can print out a prescription and the pharmacy collect it from the surgery? Most offer that service these days. That way you can just pick the pill up from your pharmacy and won’t need to use a drs appointment.

Nyon · 29/07/2019 18:00

Hmmm interesting - I'm currently debating ordering the combined pill from Lloyds online as my doctor refuses to prescribe it to me (migraines) - despite the fact that the years I was on it, I didn't suffer and now off of them, I do and the progesterone contraception is making my life hell. How can it be put on your medical records if you haven't gone through a doctor?

Kidworries · 29/07/2019 18:08

I used the online clinic for antibiotics a couple of times. Once was rejected other was approved i gave all the correct info though. I also got the pill. I bought the same one i was given after i had DC 3. It was horrible for me but i couldn't get a gp appointment for after dc4 and they wouldn't book it until DC 4 was 6 weeks old. I seem to get pregnant very easily and didn't want any more and didn't want to have an accident because the receptionist wouldn't give me an appointment. So i bought it made me the devil. Finally got my appointment and go said they hardly prescribe this any more due to its effects. Old GP after dc 3 gave it to me because it was cheaper.

Only buy it if you know your gp is fine with it. Also if your go is fine with it why can't they let your go know? Mike was fine with it.

VenusTiger · 29/07/2019 18:09

Pop into Boots, see the pharmacist, take your empty packs with you and say you’ve run out - they should give you a months worth until you can see GP

Spam88 · 29/07/2019 18:10

nyon the combined pill is contraindicated if you suffer from migraines with aura because it puts you at increased risk of stroke (I've read the NIHCE summary of the evidence for this and it's a bit shaky tbh, but that's their recommendation never the less because there are so many options that don't involve oestrogen that it's not worth the risk.

As for lying to online prescribers, frankly isn't that why they exist? If I though my doctor would give me what I wanted, I wouldn't be paying to go private online...

Spam88 · 29/07/2019 18:11

If you want to buy an emergency supply you're unlikely to be able to unless you're away from home or its outside of surgery hours, just FYI.

Teddybear45 · 29/07/2019 18:13

All private prescriptions get extra scrutiny by the pharmacist. Most will weigh you for certain types of the pill

Lemoneeza · 29/07/2019 18:13

had a similar thing with mine. doctor happy for me to be on Loestrin but can't get an appointment for a review. family planning clinic say it's too risky because I'm too overweight and will only give me mini pill.
I would do what you need to do.
