To put the camping toilet in the shed?!

So it's my DD2 Birthday in a few weeks & we usually have a bbq for all her friends & drinks for the parents. Our house is a 2 bed end terrace so not very large at all but we do have a large garden which is fab. The last few years with only having one toilet & up to 12+ kids under 10, well you can imagine the state the toilet/bathroom gets in! AIBU this year to use our chemical camping toilet in the shed for the kids to use? I think it's ok but I'm not sure the more I think about it. Obviously we would make the shed child friendly etc?

How would they wash their hands? Will they have actual privacy?
Will there be any spiders which might freak some of them out?

I think it would be easier to just let them use your toilet and then clean it afterwards!

Bookworm4 · 29/07/2019 00:36

Seriously you’d do this? If I was a parent I’d think it was rude and you didn’t think my child should be in your house.

TwistyTop · 29/07/2019 00:39

I think this is fine, but only if it is hygienic to use - ie you keep checking it's clean throughout the party, you provide proper hand washing facilities and the shed isn't a falling down, insect ridden, mouldy shack.

If you don't do this then it will come across as a bit mean, I think.

Tattyroro · 29/07/2019 00:41

I'd do it, but would offer it as an alternative for all, to avoid the need to queue and for those too lazy to traipse upstairs. I wouldn't set it up as a kids' loo with the indoor one as an adult loo. Would result in less traffic through the house and into your bathroom, without making anyone feel uncomfortable.

Yabu

Gatepost1820 · 29/07/2019 01:27

Just hire a village hall with multiple toilets and be done with it. I really wouldn't want to go to the toilet in an airless shed.

delorisvancartier · 29/07/2019 01:36

Our shed isn't a clapped old clapped place, We would provide antibacterial handwash & toilet paper & be sure to put the chainsaw out of reach! There is electric in there, it's not like I'm asking kids to pee in a dark & dangerous place

QuestionableMouse · 29/07/2019 01:43

I'd think most kids would think it was a bit of an adventure tbh.

Not really, no.

Is there any reason they are leaving the bathroom in a state rather than using normally?

RubbingHimSourly · 29/07/2019 01:51

My kids would LOVE that. I'd do it but offer your loo as an option too.

In fact I'd go one further and get one of those solar showers as well and let them camp out.

snitzelvoncrumb · 29/07/2019 01:53

You could have it as an option, along with kids can use the inside toilet with adult supervision.

Stompythedinosaur · 29/07/2019 02:08

I'm not sure why a toilet would get in a state from having 12 kids use it for the length of a party. That's how many we have to parties and we've never had a problem with ours? 12 isn't that many.

delorisvancartier · 29/07/2019 02:31

So I'm guessing not many people have had a party with that many kids & adults getting drunk... shock horror & bracing myself for the comments from the boring lot! Calm down It's not a Wild West free for all with drunken parents not being responsible for children but yes after a long afternoon the toilet is questionable. Have you never been in a school toilet??!

Lots of parties at our house, we tend to have guests that can successfully toilet themselves.

apacketofcrisps · 29/07/2019 02:46

@delorisvancartier why bother asking when you obv think yanbu?

delorisvancartier · 29/07/2019 03:03

I was asking for opinions to see what people thought about it.

Mrsmop7 I'd love to come to one of your parties where children don't be children & pee on seats. Such fun.

It's ok I've decided to just dig a hole in the garden & get the kids to go there while all the adults get off our faces.

Does your shed lock from the inside?
Not sure why I’m asking as I can only imagine how uncomfortable I’d feel with or without a lock at that age using a camping toilet in a friend’s shed with half my class around me, but it seems like you want to go ahead.

Frannibananni · 29/07/2019 03:14

That's just nasty.

delorisvancartier · 29/07/2019 03:31

Christ on a bike. Why is everyone so precious here!

Screamanger · 29/07/2019 03:31

Sounds like a sensible idea. However there will always be some who won’t like it. we have a big garden where people end up peeing behind trees at parties

Herocomplex · 29/07/2019 03:37

I think it sounds a good idea! You could put decs up in there, and a engaged/free sign on the door. Chem toilets remind me of county shows in the 70’s!

Wakeupalready · 29/07/2019 03:46

Great idea.
Hang a sign on the door that can be turned round when someone was in it, hand sanitiser and loo paper as you said.
The only draw back I can think of is you might have to empty it a bit during the party but them I'm not that up to speed on how chemical toilets work, so may be wrong.
I can completely understand the state of the bathroom once a pack of kids have all used it multiple times.I have 2 DS and after a bunch of their friends are round .....blergh.
We're fortunate enough to have a loo in our laundry, and an lour bathroom is lockable from the outside ( some weird quirk the previous owners of house did) so I lock the bathroom and relegate them all to the laundry with access only from outside.
Go for it.

Gingerkittykat · 29/07/2019 04:00

If your house toilet can't cope with multiple guests then how disgusting is a chemical toilet going to get? How many pees and poos can it hold before it needs to be emptied, and how do you empty it in a garden anyway?

RainbowMum11 · 29/07/2019 04:28

It sounds like a great idea - a slightly less wild & more comfortable wee, without having to take off shoes etc to go upstairs if they don't want to.
It's inspired & will do similar when DD gets older,, but also for grown up parties when you just need a quick wee.

MrHaroldFry · 29/07/2019 04:50

We have raucous parties here but are lucky to have several bathrooms so I would think YABU to expect me to do a wee in a shed. Honestly, my loos have never been as unclean as you describe and I would generally check on them one an hour or so.
