Vile.

b0bb1n · 28/07/2019 15:42

I don't understand the picture

raspberryk · 28/07/2019 15:43

Not as disappointed as I am that some very pale white women desire a tan so very orange you need sun glasses to look at them.
Lots if us change our skin tones and contour with crazy dark make up is the fashion atm.

Moominfan · 28/07/2019 15:44

The model is light skinned, they've darkened her skin to represent darker skin people rather than use a dark skin model.

Sexnotgender · 28/07/2019 15:45

Not ok, not even a little bit.

pepperpot99 · 28/07/2019 15:45

I'm not surprised though; who'd want to live in a country where Islamic State and the Taleban has traction, and where Christian women - like Asia Bibi - can be imprisoned for years for daring to offer Muslim women water from a shared drinking vessel? Neanderthal practice from a Neanderthal society.

Moominfan · 28/07/2019 15:47

That's horrifying pepperpot

OP posts:
pepperpot99 · 28/07/2019 15:52

Yep, it is. One of the Government officials who tried to get Pakistan's blasphemy laws altered was murdered by a frenzied mob. This is a country where girls who 'dishonour' their families are set on fire and murdered in gang attacks. I'd be far more angry about that than someone smearing dark foundation on their face to prove a point, tbh.

raspberryk · 28/07/2019 16:12

She isn't light skinned though.

Artesia · 28/07/2019 16:15

And yet men are being applauded and heralded as stunning and brave for adopting “woman face”....

beccarocksbaby · 28/07/2019 16:21

She isn't light skinned though

She isn't white. She is light skinned.

Blackface is vile and people justifying it even worse. I don't get how anyone can even try and justify it marginalising people who have a right to be represented

Aquiver · 28/07/2019 16:22

Couldn't agree with you more @Artesia - "stunning and brave", my arse.

Remember also that so many Asian countries have an ingrained prejudice against darker skins, hence the use of skin bleaching creams etc. Not helped by the Empire and Western / colonial prejudices either.

Is she light skinned though? Just looking at that picture there's nothing to suggest that isn't her skin tone, but perhaps she's famously paler than this? I know there's a big issue in many brown and black skinned communities of skin bleaching and lightening, with paler skin tones being desirable; my first thought was that this was a fashion show reclaiming the "unfashionable" darkness of their natural skin tones.

And yet men are being applauded and heralded as stunning and brave for adopting “woman face”....

What on earth is "woman face"?? Make-up isn't a "woman" thing, and I'm afraid the whole spectrum of different facial features belong to both men and women.

Oh hang on, you don't like trans people do you...

hellodarkness · 28/07/2019 16:40

Here is the story on the BBC which explains the issue in fuller detail.

Sceptre86 · 28/07/2019 16:44

Calling a whole country a neanderthal society is bang out of order pepperpot and you should wind your neck in. Using blackface is extremely disrespectful in western society and should be in all societies because if black people themselves seem it hurtful or unacceptable then it is and all colours should see that.

Pakistan is still a very young country at less than a 100 years old, it has a shed load of problems, namely the mix of religion and tribal customs being used in law. There is change afoot in the country hopefully for the better. The use of neanderthal society's is quite frankly insulting to everyone that lives there and you are targeting a huge population with your words. The same words could be used in any UK city from Friday to Sunday but then they ho YOU Might seem that offensive.

Going back to the original post people who show ignorance need educating, blackface is not ok.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/07/2019 16:56

Well of course blackface isn't ok - but I don't know the model - how do we know she isn't black Confused

hellodarkness · 28/07/2019 16:56

"The use of neanderthal society's is quite frankly insulting to everyone that lives there and you are targeting a huge population with your words."

The people I know who live there would agree with that description. They want the world to know what it is like, and then apply pressure for change. I don't think it is doing the population any good at all to pretend otherwise. The only people who think current practise is acceptable is those who have a vested interest in it continuing unchanged.

hellodarkness · 28/07/2019 16:58

"Well of course blackface isn't ok - but I don't know the model - how do we know she isn't black?"

Because the story linked tells us that the tv segment was about bridal make up on darker skin. They used a pale model, blacked her face, and then did her bridal make up.

flashbac · 28/07/2019 17:00

Pepperpot you sound like a racist.

Teacher22 · 28/07/2019 17:13

It is perfectly valid to compare like cases such as a lighter skinned woman adopting ‘blackface’ and a man adopting the persona of a woman’s face. It is political correctness to suggest otherwise.

Moominfan · 28/07/2019 17:15

This is the model in the shoot. Hair styled to look Afro. I'm mixed race afro Caribbean heritage and her natural skin tone would be described as light skinned

Black face isn't smearing your face in make up. It has ugly colonial roots. You must be in a position of privilege to be ignorant to this. You don't need to stamp on other social injustices to draw attention to another.

This has literally nothing to do with the thread. It's really tedious dragging personal political agendas into everything no matter how irrelevant.

Moominfan · 28/07/2019 17:25

Patriarchy doing very well it seems. However I don't think contour and black face are comparable. Skin bleaching is a massive thing within the Afro Caribbean community, dark skin so rarely represented.
