Why? Dreadful things

If I brought one into the house, DH would probablu burn it

mummyto2littleprincess · 31/07/2007 21:54

you should have 1

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/07/2007 21:54

why,when there's mumsnet ?

lemonaid · 31/07/2007 21:55

Many of them are crap, though, with ... imaginative ... "meanings" of names.

TotalChaos · 31/07/2007 21:56

the one i bought was dreadful, implied that names like swan and drake were feasible choices.

SlightlyMadSpider · 31/07/2007 21:57

Why - we have t'internet these days

StarryStarryNight · 31/07/2007 21:57

I have two, an English one, and a Norwegian one. Interesting reading.

StarryStarryNight · 31/07/2007 21:57

True there is internet, but I rarely bring my laptop to bed (like a book)

MrsScavo · 31/07/2007 21:58

I'm just getting annoyed at all the name threads on MN.

I have some - but am not going to open it until after little one is born. Took us a week to name DS

(I am 32 weeks and in denial)

your choice of name for your child should be personal.

i thin you should stumble across the name...almsot so fate can have a play in the choice.

so your walkign along and then hear someone on the phone talking about her friend XXX. you love the name, mention it to your Dp and away you go...there's your name

Linnet · 31/07/2007 22:07

that's how we named our dd1 mamazon. Dh came home from work to say that he'd heard a man in the restaurant talking to his daughter and her name was XXX and it was such a nice name, actually it turned out it was the only girl name we could agree on. When I gave birth and we found out we had a girl that was what we called her.

edam · 31/07/2007 22:10

A lot of baby name books are churned out with no research. My own name is a good test - a crappy book will pretend it's a derivative of another name, just because they have a few letters in common. It isn't!

hunkermunker · 31/07/2007 22:11

Wow, Aviatrix! That was brave! Did you approve?

my dd was named after a song and her middle name is after my dh's alsation he had as a child

mummyto2littleprincess · 31/07/2007 22:17

what do people think about what katie and peter called there gir princess just think about when shes older

puppydavies · 31/07/2007 22:19

but people really like to try names out in a "real world" kind of situation without having to commit to the name for life, iykwim. getting an impartial reaction on here is very different to picking a name from a book.

(pd guilty of more than one name thread of her own recently )

corblimeycharlie · 31/07/2007 22:19

But don't you enjoy it when they are surprised that no one thinks 'Rock' is a good idea for a little baby girl?

All the putting into context and trying other variations on the spelling (Rhoc, Roc) passes a dull weekday evening for me.

UnquietDad · 31/07/2007 22:21

People who ask about names should just be sent

here

Hours of fun...
