A friend of mine did the 'chance-heard name' thing - her DH was reading a paper & there was an article about some golfer & his family. They liked his daughter's name & used it for their DD - it was a really unusual name 17 years ago......

Britney...

Wrocke?

corblimeycharlie · 31/07/2007 22:29

Love Rocce and Roque.(Second name Fort?)

Not forgetting Rhoque. I think the H adds a little more class.

corblimeycharlie · 31/07/2007 22:30

Unquiet - too witchy for me.

tegan · 31/07/2007 22:36

I have 2 dd's and have never owned or even looked at a baby name dictionary

MrsScavo · 31/07/2007 22:40

Did you borrow one?

HOw did you check the name meanings, or didn't you mind about the meaning?

The meaning of a name isn't the important thing.

It is a matter of choice and of course it has to go with you're surname.

NoBiggy · 31/07/2007 23:37

Tegan is a mighty fine name and for a time was my first choice for DD1. Until my brother started refering to her as Adric, when I dropped the idea.

mamazon · 31/07/2007 23:40

there is a woman who has a dd in my ds's class. she has a toddler girl called Patience.....she can frequantly be heard screaming "patience get 'ere nah or your gonna get such a slap"

as sad as it is i can't help but smirk

Surely Rhôque. That way it's more unusual and exotic.

startouchedtrinity · 01/08/2007 07:55

I didn't use the baby name dictionary to name any of my three, even though I owned one (have since passed it on.) Dd1 was a name I knew and loved, dd2 I found via a site with old Cornish names on, and ds is named for my grandad.

tegan · 01/08/2007 08:39

Why would you need to know the meaning of a name. it's the name thats used not the nmeaning. when people meet you're dc they will ask "and what's youre name?" not " and whats the meaning of you're name"

Tegan means fair beautiful person in welsh but I would of had it if it meant hogfaced heffer

unknownrebelbang · 01/08/2007 08:47

Lol at this thread.

I want to know if Poppy would be a suitable name for a little girl? As an aside she may well be a redhead.

I'm not pregnant you understand, and never will be again, but I just wondered, lol.

lemonaid · 01/08/2007 08:57

Poppy is quite popular at the moment. There are two in DS's nursery class.

startouchedtrinity · 01/08/2007 09:03

There are lots of Poppys here.

Kif · 01/08/2007 12:03

rofl - unquiet dad.

Am I paranoid, though, that i searched to make sure my kids' names weren't listed before I got too amused

Katy44 · 01/08/2007 12:16

Poppy is lovely

Lizzer · 01/08/2007 12:18

PMSL Unquietdad and YABU Mrs S, some of us need all the help we can get for our as-yet-un -born-offspring's moniker so I do love a good name thread

(and yes I do have a baby name book also)

corblimeycharlie · 01/08/2007 12:20

I specifically chose a ridiculous name before I started taking the pee. Afterward I did think I should have done a search to make sure there weren't any Rhoque Pebble Carregs(welsh for stone) about.
Off to check right now!
