JRM's style guide made me think about this. Top of my list would be "hun", followed closely by "Crimbo" and "hubby".

What words would you love never to have to read or hear again?

OP posts:
DanglyWhoreTassels · 28/07/2019 13:39

1066

Oh that's different then! I'd thought it disrespectful to willies! Now I shall proudly say willy nilly, willy nilly!! (IYSWIM)

Arnoldthecat · 28/07/2019 13:40

constant "like" in conversation or monologue
"Can i Get"
Starting sentences with "so"

Saying "yes,no.."
A regional thing but saying "absolutely" instead of a pain old "yes"

BadLad · 28/07/2019 13:41

Agree with "cray cray". Sounds ridiculous.

Will add "eleventh billion" . Also sounds stupid.

DanglyWhoreTassels · 28/07/2019 13:42

Thigh 'cabal' is indeed a battle cry! it can disturb one's sleep if one has no machete to hand!

Also a step-dodwell can be better than a dodwell in certain cases! Hurrah for the Moolays!

BadLad · 28/07/2019 13:43

Fuck you, autocorrect.

Eleventy billion. Ban it.

ThighsRelief · 28/07/2019 13:44

Vagina, that really gives me the willies.

Décolletage, so déclassé, it makes me think of Wurzel Gummidge.

ThighsRelief · 28/07/2019 13:45

Whoop whoop whoop bigging it up for the Moolays!

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 28/07/2019 13:48

Hurrah for Willy Nilly Moolays everywhere.

YoTheGinPussy · 28/07/2019 13:57

Wurzel Gummidge, sigh, a heartthrob of my childhood, Spoke so much sense along with Catweasle.

ThighsRelief · 28/07/2019 13:58

No. Fuck you. Signed, Autocorrect.

MartiniDry · 28/07/2019 14:12

MartiniDry don’t get excited, am not criticising the act of breastfeeding, just the expression ‘boobing’.

YoTheGin sorry, I wasn't being snarky. There's no excitement and I didn't think for a second that you were criticising bf. 🙂
I simply don't comprehend the connection between "boobing" and "Pikey" and was wondering if either/both have meanings which are different to my understanding of the words.

SaraNade · 28/07/2019 14:14

Fancy. Used in any manner except for expensive, showy.

Fag. Should go the way of the 'n' word.

Shag. Shag is carpet. Having sex is having a screw, having a fuqk, having sex.

C word. It is disrespectful to women, full stop.

Wombleish · 28/07/2019 14:27

Calling yourself a 'mummy' when not addressing your own children. Unless, of course, you use it for the bandaged dudes from Egypt.

Dudes: that word should also be banned.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/07/2019 14:31

Narc or narcissist.

Every woman and her dog seems to have a "narc" in their life. Really? Are all these people diagnosed as such by medical professionals?

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 28/07/2019 14:43

Yeh, cuppa. Shit word. And also ‘pop’. As in “pop to the shop”. Also a shit word. Sounds so odd.

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 28/07/2019 14:44

@Wombleish

Unless, of course, you use it for the bandaged dudes from Egypt

Dudes: that word should also be banned

😂

YoTheGinPussy · 28/07/2019 14:47

MartiniDry thanks. Should add Pikey to the list really as is a horrible word. Blush

ScreamingValenta · 28/07/2019 14:47

'Batshit'

(In the sense of 'mad' rather than 'guano')

Overused and irritating.

Songes · 28/07/2019 14:47

Offended / offensive

Everyone is offended these days. Grow up!

SlocombePooter · 28/07/2019 14:50

Valenta we could describe people as being really guano, I'm sure it would soon catch on!

SlocombePooter · 28/07/2019 14:51

Anything ending in -phobe unless fear is involved!

ScreamingValenta · 28/07/2019 14:52

I might try it, Slocombe Grin

YoTheGinPussy · 28/07/2019 14:54

Also Toffs. Irritating ex-NDN, now sadly deceased, who was always saying people were Toffs or being Toffish. For example, apparently only Toffs go to rugby matches. Real people go to football.

He would have said Jacob Rees-Mogg and Boris Johnson were toffs. I think there are many other names people would have for them.

NorberErratics · 28/07/2019 15:21

Anything ending in -phobe unless fear is involved!

You’re right, even though it will entail the rewriting of chemistry textbooks and scientific papers which refer to hydrophobicity and hydrophobes.

SlocombePooter · 28/07/2019 15:28

I doff my cap to your pedantry, Norber !

I was not the best of scholars;-)
