JRM's style guide made me think about this. Top of my list would be "hun", followed closely by "Crimbo" and "hubby".

What words would you love never to have to read or hear again?

@forallthesaints ‘big’ and ‘little’? That’s a new one! Is there any context here or do you just prefer ‘large’ and ‘small’?

YoTheGinPussy · 28/07/2019 11:06

Spunk is a word I dislike, connotations of small boys behind the bike sheds.

Twenty Twelve as in the London Twenty Twelve games, fuck off it was the Two Thousand and Twelve games. Same with Team GG, makes me cringe.

Wombleish · 28/07/2019 11:09

Thank Dangly. Yes to willy nilly. Willy is a perfectly good word on its own. What is a 'nilly' any way?

anothernotherone · 28/07/2019 11:11

Obling.

I have a totally and utterly irrational dislike for the word oblong.

It makes my stomach churn.

I have no idea why. I can't defend it logically. The word makes me feel queasy.

Wombleish · 28/07/2019 11:11

Oh, 'lil'. As in 'lil man' Angry

anothernotherone · 28/07/2019 11:12

^ oops, I obviously dislike it so much that I couldn't bring myself to type it correctly Blush

Oblong Envy [not envy]

DanglyWhoreTassels · 28/07/2019 11:14

Womble yes that is my issue too, Willies are never nilly!!

They can be willy willy not though!

stupidis · 28/07/2019 11:20

'Literally' as in 'I was literally starving to death', no no you weren't.

Panties, moist, mumpreneur and visual storyteller.

ForalltheSaints · 28/07/2019 11:21

@Elision I just think they are overused, and the things or events described as such often aren't. It is part of the inflation of language.

Xxalisoncxx · 28/07/2019 11:23

Awesome, epic, lit- they give me the rage!

LadyRannaldini · 28/07/2019 11:29

inapproriate, it's wrong really, in all senses.
issue, when not referring to Private Eye etc

Most of the swear words used on here without which many posters seem incapable or writing yet consider themselves to be good parents.

MartiniDry · 28/07/2019 11:34

Grim. It's a word which makes me want to recoil from the user. I have no idea why.

Super (as an adjective). It's a horribly try-hard middle class term!

Myself. It's rarely used properly. Don't.

'The fam' instead of family and all similar abbreviations such as lippy for lipstick.

Town name abbreviations like Darlo (Darlington) and Barney (Barnard Castle).

Quality, as in "Do you like my shirt?" "Yeah, it's quality".
"How was your day at Wimbledon?"
"Quality!".

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 28/07/2019 11:35

LadyRannaldini are you suggesting that me writing 'cunt' on here affects my parenting ability?

Leakinglikeacolander · 28/07/2019 11:38

Never heard of confraggle.
Users of Nom should be fired from a rocket and sent into space.
Think I have a small crush on anothernotherone

LordRudolphVII · 28/07/2019 11:38

'NAMALT'. The biggest enabler of misandric discussion and regularly used to shut down disagreement with statements like "all men are ok with rape" (an actual quote from earlier this week)?

Tacobellend · 28/07/2019 11:39

Lush . I don't mind the shop though .

NoTheresa · 28/07/2019 11:43

A piece - referring to an item of clothing.

NoTheresa · 28/07/2019 11:43

Hubby

NoTheresa · 28/07/2019 11:43

going forward

MartiniDry · 28/07/2019 11:44

"And Boobing is little more than Pikey."

This is a genuine question. What does that sentence mean, Gin?!

NoTheresa · 28/07/2019 11:44

proactive

birdonawire1 · 28/07/2019 11:44

Tomoz 🤮

NoTheresa · 28/07/2019 11:45

Nork - as used on Mn.

RedSheep73 · 28/07/2019 11:46

@Elision Wtf are you actually talking about? xenophobia would be wanting to cause harm to Americans. What we are taking about is getting pissed off (not pissed) at Brits copying them. Do you really not understand the difference?

NoTheresa · 28/07/2019 11:46

Boobing - again seen here. Just noooooooo
🤢
