To say that people should take a fucking pregnancy test?

Just that really. If you've had sex, there's a chance you may be pregnantHmm

Nobody on the internet can tell you if you're pregnant or not, so AIBU to tell these people to just fuck off and take a pregnancy test?

OP posts:

showmethegin · 28/07/2019 00:06

Hell yes! Does my nut in! Not as bad as the 'line eyes' people that post pictures of the most obviously positive test anyone has ever taken in the history of the world and are like "is this positive?". After 12 months of trying I'm like please read the instructions and get a grip.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 28/07/2019 00:08

YANBU!!!

However the 'who's my baby daddy' threads are so much more awful.

ChicCroissant · 28/07/2019 00:11

YANBU OP. I have blocked the topic that those posts should appear on, but people who stick them in AIBU pop up in the active list for me Angry

The can-you-see-a-line posts are also ignored.

Binforky · 28/07/2019 00:12

Another that gets on my nerves are the ones where there is a photo of a test with no line at all its clearly negative but there will always be that one person saying they can see it. I sometimes imagine they have glasses on with a mark on them making them see lines that aren't there.

Whatdoingmummy · 28/07/2019 00:19

Hmm, I know what you mean by the "I've had sex 3 weeks ago, could I be pregnant posts" but some I understand, the line eyes ones for example.

I myself have been that desperate to be pregnant (TTC 3.5 years & counting) I have googled some ridiculous stuff & posted negatives tests just incase some one can see something that I can't . Every time I feel sick I hope it's because I'm pregnant, even when I'm on my period. There's always that "what if" lingering, which may seem ridiculous to you, but to me it's a tiny glimoir of hope....

TurquoiseDress · 28/07/2019 00:20

I do agree! Grin

YANBU

maddiemookins16mum · 28/07/2019 00:22

You should see The McParents fb page, every other post has this.

Exactly this.

cheesemongery · 28/07/2019 00:40

Now I've got ads for free baby packs and tootheache gel.

I haven't had sex for 6 years and my teeth are just fine.

Do you think I could be pregnant?

What about Nevaeh for a girl?

cheesemongery · 28/07/2019 00:41

Reminded me of this ad

Grin

We've all been there with too many pies and a bit of constipation.

MarthasGinYard · 28/07/2019 00:47

Yanbu At all

Cannot abide the

'Line eyes....over here'

'Anyone fancy a POAS thread'

No FUCK off

I'm going to actually post that next time....

Cosentyx · 28/07/2019 00:47

YANBU. Loads of 'accidents', too, what you tripped, fell and landed on his dick.

Nomoremilk · 28/07/2019 00:52

YANBU and its always first time mums! When you've been pregnant before you just test!

Yabbers · 28/07/2019 08:56

Having read those threads, I can’t see how they are in any way helpful. Responses range from “no, sorry” to “don’t be so ridiculous, clearly that’s negative” (but not as polite as that). If you ask someone can they see it, a whole lot of people will think they can, that’s a mind trick.

Where’s the hope in any of that?

OtraCosaMariposa · 28/07/2019 08:59

YANBU in the slightest.

And the "OMG is it a boy or a girl???" threads. Answer is yes, it's definitely one or the other.

SD1978 · 28/07/2019 09:05

Yup..... there are a fair few people phone 111 to ask........cause the phone lights up a different colour if you're pregnant..........

Whatdoingmummy · 28/07/2019 09:30

@yabbers like I said, infertility drives you insane. Unless you've been there I don't think you'll understand.

1DoesNotSimplyWalkIntoMordor · 28/07/2019 10:09

An accident is dropping a mig whilst washing up

They are notoriously hard aeroplanes to wash

Jumbo's are much easier to wash, (cos they are elephants)

Neither will fit into the dishwasher though. Grin

Totally disregarding the point of the thread.

edgeofheaven · 28/07/2019 10:13

YANBU but the best ones are “Who is the father” and they’ve had sex with one suitable guy and 1-2 useless ones mid cycle and wanting MN to confirm it’s the good guy’s baby Hmm

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 28/07/2019 10:16

Forgot about those ones re who’s the father. Any mention of a DNA test is usually met with resistance as they don’t want any of the men to know they weren’t the only one.

LolaSmiles · 28/07/2019 10:31

infertility drives you insane. Unless you've been there I don't think you'll understand.

It does! I understand.
However, I'm not sure am I pregnant threads are healthy and I think they can cause more of an emotional rollercoaster than it's worth.
One reason I took a hiatus from MN was because whilst dealing with fertility issues I ended up feeling more crap every time I saw a thread of a clearly negative pregnancy test and lots of hunning saying 'it's totally positive / don't know how people are saying it's negative / I think it's negative but it's probably too soon so test in a few days'.
Same with listing symptoms and people saying 'I had X Y Z and had a period but found out I was 8 weeks pregnant'.
I came to the conclusion it was promoting false hope. Nobody wants to be the person who's says the test is negative and nobody wants to be the person who gives the kind reality check that loads of pregnancy symptoms can also be PMT or the human body being the human body, so more and more false hope is created.
I often wondered what it was like for the OP on the thread (who would usually return later saying they aren't pregnant) to have had her hopes built up by well meaning posters.

IgotApositive · 28/07/2019 10:39

This could have been written about my thread Grin I took lots of tests but I was just so desperate to know as everyone in person could see the two lines!!

Schuyler · 28/07/2019 11:06

How is it helpful for those struggling with infertility to be told by well-meaning MNers that they see a line on their very clearly negative pregnancy test? Is that not more distressing and devastating?

Topseyt · 28/07/2019 11:17

I can't be arsed even opening those threads anymore. It is usually obvious from the title what it is going to be about so the posts are pointless and ridiculous.

Just quietly buy and do a test like everyone else does, and/or go to your GP
