Very happy to wear

  • Linen trousers (great in this heat)
  • 50s dresses (when swing dancing)
  • Clothes from Toast. (Occasionally Boden too)
  • White cotton pants
  • Cardigans
  • Clothing of any colour. (Season dependent, to an extant. Bright colours often in combination with more neutral tones)
  • Polo necks

Dippy, you could try spray starch on your linen trousers.

I believe it was me who said linen trousers. I also believe the question was what would I not put on MY body?
I do not like linen trousers. They look atrocious on me. They do not flatter me and are completely not the style of clothing I choose to wear.
Whether YOU (General Public) wears them is of no interest to me. But thankfully clothing is not yet compulsory, so in this matter, I stand by my choice to never wear linen trousers.

I think polonecks look wonderful on long-necked, small-bosomed women. Unfortunately, I am neither. In fact, I am jealous of those on whom polonecks look good. I covet your necks.

I love leopard print, but have had to ban myself from buying more , because I know it will be unwearable in a few years time.
I think what I like about it is that it's a small unfussy pattern, and incorporates black, which means it goes with a lot in my wardrobe.
I'd be happy to wear other prints, but there's not a huge range of options once you rule out huge tropical prints and massive blooms!
On reflection, I think a lot of what I wear is dictated by avoiding what I don't like! If the colour, feel of the fabric , and shape are right, I'll wear it, but that rules out about 90% of clothes on the market!

How does anyone manage without cardigans?? They are great for layering all year round. I do admit to probably owning too many of them Blush

Rainbunny · 27/07/2019 10:53

I like linen trousers!

Don't mind polo necks but I can't wear them because I feel like I'm being strangled as well (pp noted this) and also it's a winter time top so my neck gets hot then my face gets all flushed. I'm actually impressed by anyone whose comfortable wearing them.

No to animal prints! Sorry.

Culottes! WFT are they doing back in fashion?? Nobody looks good in culottes!

Bleached denim. Bad the first time around but every ten years or so they try to sneak it back into style. Let it die.

I'm quite partial to a bit of Per Una. I'm 55 and not as skinny as I should be but I like to wear what makes me feel happy. I refuse to be that 14 year old girl who was laughed at by the " cool" girls at secondary school anymore.

Skyejuly · 28/07/2019 07:49

Late December. That's how I feel!

Skyejuly · 28/07/2019 07:54

I LOVE linen. I pretty much live in it this summer. I refused to wear it till 28 but I wish I wore it sooner!

Also I own many pairs of cropped tropical print trousers. They are my favourite!

I used to try and be immaculate and classy...hmm...I am happier than I have ever been in life and comfortable thanks to my print linen trousers Haha.

I think part of the S+B problem is that some posters can be a bit sneery/superior. A lot of the posters have way more money than me and can afford brands I can't. I'd never brave going on there to discuss e.g. a Matalan or George at ASDA item of clothing as I'd expect to be shot down in flames. Not that I'm jealous of women who can spend £1000s on a handbag.

PurpleGlitter1983 · 28/07/2019 10:27

Many things on the "banned" thread I wear often! But I have a fantastic figure so I can. Cold shoulder tops, mini skirts/shorts etc. Tights! Love tights.

Basketofkittens · 28/07/2019 10:55

MN also seems to hate White Stuff but I live in their clothes.

ForalltheSaints · 28/07/2019 11:07

YANBU.

Just don't be a fast fashion victim and buy clothes that last.

PinguDance · 28/07/2019 11:45

I get loads of compliments when I wear my Toast dresses and they really suit me! S&B is a bit of a weird demographic I reckon - it’s fashion for people who don’t actually like clothes but want to look ‘groomed’.
