Very happy to wear

  • Linen trousers (great in this heat)
  • 50s dresses (when swing dancing)
  • Clothes from Toast. (Occasionally Boden too)
  • White cotton pants
  • Cardigans
  • Clothing of any colour. (Season dependent, to an extant. Bright colours often in combination with more neutral tones)
  • Polo necks

Lightweight fleeces are also good for walking/travelling. They pack easily, can be washed easily and the fabric doesn't get sodden after a few spots of rain.

Toast has gorgeous stuff.
Linen trousers are just trousers made of a particular type of fabric so this is too broad.
Polo necks are fabulous
50s dresses are fun (and flattering)
Colour is essential

I’ll be wearing mustard yellow next year Confused
I love yellow and it’s a staple of my wardrobe year in and out.

At least I’ll find all the yellow tops in the charity shops next year if ‘no one will be wearing mustard yellow next year’ Grin

Beautiful3 · 27/07/2019 09:01

I love my crocs, ugg boots and colourful t shirts.

fancynancyclancy · 27/07/2019 09:02

I posted on that thread although there are things that I would definitely wear listed on there
such as leopard print or trainers. I’m arrogant secure enough to not not care what others think.
There are also things that I don’t particularly like but would wear eg a fleece/anorak for functionality.

I love clothes but I would never judge someone else for wearing something I didn’t like or that doesn’t suit me. If we all looked & dressed the same life would be boring!

Lweji · 27/07/2019 09:02

You know what I mean.
It's all over the place now and worn by people who'd never wear it normally.

Having said that, for some stupid reason colours tend to come out as trends and there are years I can hardly find something I like. I love most this year (except the mustard yellow Wink) and would happily stock my wardrobe with colours that were more rarely seen in previous years.

colourlessgreenidea · 27/07/2019 09:09

I think S&B is good for inspiration and seeing different shapes/sizes/budgets but I always take it with a pinch of salt and just carry on wearing what I like and feel comfortable in.

Same here. There are definitely some people on S&B whose sold raison d’etre is how they look (and how other people look too). I feel a bit sorry for them.

Sproink · 27/07/2019 09:10

I'm with you on the linen, pants and cardigans OP.

I also like low cut trousers and skirts. Occasionally, (shock horror!) I wear cropped tops qdespite being the wrong side of 12.

Aprillygirl · 27/07/2019 09:10

I live in (horror of horror) leggings (mostly black) and team them with dresses or long tops. Because I'm so safe down below I love to wear prints and/or bright coloured tops. I may not like polo necks personally but I would never judge anyone for wearing one, just as I wouldn't expect anyone to judge me for what I wear, and anyone that does is not worth worrying about.

daisypond · 27/07/2019 09:12

I like patterns and I also like cropped trousers, though not together.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/07/2019 09:14

Since when gave 50s dresses been bad. ConfusedVintage is fab. Most of my dresses are from Lindy bop.

Loveislandaddict · 27/07/2019 09:18

People should wear what suits them, irregardless of where they come from.

Therefore, polonecks suit us pear shaped, but wouldn’t suit those with a larger cleavage.

Love cardis - jumpers are often too hot for me since i’ve Reached a certain age.

A Boden Breton is a staple in my wardrobe.

marvik · 27/07/2019 09:28

Cropped trousers also mean there isn't the agony about, 'Are these trousers a bit too short for these shoes/so long that I'm treading on them.' Plus - depending on cut - a bit of additional ventilation for warm days.

Also I think we have the right to wear clothes that don't 'suit' us and which aren't 'stylish'. They may just be familiar or comfortable or a gift from a loved friend, so something that we find cheering. Or they're clean when everything else is in the laundry basket.

I miss bootleg jeans. They were so comfy and flattering.
I look like a sack of spuds in tight jeans.

Ticklemeelmo · 27/07/2019 09:41

I wear Ugg boots in winter and don't care what anyone thinks about that. They're perfect for freezing cold days.

I also don't get the Mumsnet obsession with Hush to the point where there are whole threads dedicated to their seasonal collections- overpriced boring clothes IMO

Whitney168 · 27/07/2019 09:47

I miss bootleg jeans. They were so comfy and flattering.
I look like a sack of spuds in tight jeans.

So wear bootleg jeans that suit you then. They're still perfectly available. Very few people look good in skinny jeans, far better dress for your own body shape.

Anyone who shudders at the thought of wearing something that isn't 'on trend' at the moment is just playing in to the fashion industry's hands. Why not just wear what you like and what suits you?

OtraCosaMariposa · 27/07/2019 09:47

Me too. I am far too long in the tooth to give a shit about "fashion" and wear what is comfortable.

I like Toast clothes, have a lovely check tunic dress from there. Also have a couple of winter Boden corduroy dresses which are fab. Also like linen trousers.

And shock horror - I own more than one pair of Crocs.

MrsMozartMkII · 27/07/2019 09:49

I wear:

Linen
Uggs (different styles - the biker style are a staple!)
Button fronted things
Various colours
Roll neck tops (have a long neck)
High heels occasionally (5'8" so don't 'need' then for height, just sometimes like)
Irregular Choice (the slightly more restrained ones)
Corduroy
Cardigans (various styles)
Crop trousers (long legs help the look)

Equally these are things I like and like to wear and I don't care what others think, or what they wear or don't wear. Each to their own Grin

SerenDippitty · 27/07/2019 09:54

I agree OP. Will happily wear

Jumpsuits
Maxi dresses
Any colour
Prints
Polo necks
Leggings (with tunics/summer dresses).

PenCreed · 27/07/2019 09:55

My entries on that thread were things that look awful on me. S&B often love brands that are a) expensive and b) not cut for people of my shape. I’m not tall and have an hourglass figure - I look my best in fitted clothes and 50s shaped dresses really suit me. I also love a bonkers print. I’m 38, too many people think I should be in loose neutral colours. Those drain me - I’d look like a shapeless corpse!

PenCreed · 27/07/2019 09:56

Also cardigans are bloody brilliant. Wear all the same pretty dresses all year, just with or without the cardigan.

Skyejuly · 27/07/2019 09:58

Me too.

I hate skinnies and bootleg. I live in straight and wide leg. If you were me, you would too!

evilharpy · 27/07/2019 10:08

I had no idea Toast was on anyone's banned list!

Love a bit of leopard print myself and in my line of vision is a clothes horse with two pairs of cropped linen culottes draped over it. And I've always loved a polo neck.
