Mummy Daddy

I've been reading a thread where the poster calls her Mum/Dad Mammy and Daddy. My Irish friend also (adult) does this.

My own children (teens) call me and their father Mummy and Daddy but refer to us as Mum/Dad when speaking to others.
AIBU to think this is ok?
Is it a bit odd for adult DC to say Mummy/Daddy?

Each to their own.

Posh folk tend to use Mummy. And probably Papa.

This thread has been done to death.

ihate the expressions mummy and daddy past the age of 5, but everyone to their own. it's not hurting anyone so why is it a problem ?

raspberryk · 25/07/2019 18:40

I called my dad daddy til I was 18, would have continued if my exh hadn't put a stop to it. Nothing wrong with it.

littlepaddypaws · 25/07/2019 18:41

bethany why comment then ? use your time to do something more interesting Smile

ShinyMe · 25/07/2019 18:41

Surely it's between parent and child, and nobody else's business?

I call my parents by their names. My auntie called her mum Mummy even when she (my aunt) was 60 and granny was in her 90s.

blighter · 25/07/2019 18:41

My dd who is 16 calls us mummy and daddy. So What? How does this impact on anyone else Confused

WhiteDust · 25/07/2019 18:41

Bethany
Oh dear, seems I forgot to search all previous threads on MN before posting. My bad.

I still call mine mummy and daddy and I'm nearly 40 🤣

InTheHeatofLisbon · 25/07/2019 18:42

The only adult I know who refers to his parents as Mummy and Daddy is very, very

WhiteDust · 25/07/2019 18:44

I like it! I'm glad you don't think it's weird. I don't want to tell them to stop!

My posh friend calls her parents Mummy and Daddy.

Shrug.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 25/07/2019 18:45

posh. Stupid phone! As in private boarding school, gated community in London is home posh.

I called my Mum Ma, and call my Dad Da. It's personal to each of us I guess.

Cuppycakes · 25/07/2019 18:46

Each to there own and all that. I’m sure my DM would love it though. Me and DB have been referring to her by her first name since we were 13.

WhiteDust · 25/07/2019 18:47

Shiny
You know I've just remembered an old neighbour who talked about her Mummy (long gone) - she must have been in her 80s back then!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/07/2019 18:47

I use Mummy when I'm talking to her directly and Mum if I'm referring to her to other people. Learnt that one a long time ago. Dad is just Dad, unless I'm feeling particularly drunk soppy

WhiteDust · 25/07/2019 18:49

Ah intheheat ! Grin
I suppose I can imagine Prince Charles calling the Queen Mummy.
Actually, I think he does!

My dc (12&17) mostly use mum / dad, but I occasionally get mummy when I want something. I can remember my mum getting a bit annoyed when I got to primary school and decided mummy was too babyish!! But I think I said mum and dad from about then. Mom definitely wouldn’t have been allowed as too American lol!

WhiteDust · 25/07/2019 18:49

I also like Ma and Da!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 25/07/2019 18:50

D’oh.. when *they^ wasn’t something.

PookieDo · 25/07/2019 18:51

No it is not weird and it is so annoying that this seems to be such an issue for some people

Not posh but DC still call us mummy and daddy. I don’t know why but I am not about to start scorning them for it. 15 and 17

WhiteDust · 25/07/2019 18:51

I do get called Mummy or Mum by children (teenagers) at school by mistake- I suppose it's not unusual!

OP posts:
MrsBosh · 25/07/2019 18:53

My DH and his brothers all do this to their parents. In their 30s. Quite a posh family. I thought it was quite odd at first but now don't bat an eyelid.

WhiteDust · 25/07/2019 18:53

I have friends who call their Mum Mom. Midlands area.
