To ask advice on sweating problem?

Bit embarrassing so NC for this.

In a morning before work I have a thorough wash using dove soap, I then apply dove deodorant spray (I found dove one has the strongest and longest lasting scent) I drive to work with the windows down on my car but after about an hour at work I can smell my armpits Sad I am so paranoid that people can smell me, I’m paranoid walking past people incase they can smell BO and i take perfume to the toilet to try and mask the smell. It’s not an overpowering smell but enough if I tilt my head down I can smell it.

Any advice or products to recommend? Bit skint so can’t afford massively expensive things, but sat wondering if the dove soap is maybe not helping as it has moisturiser in it could it be blocking my arm pits from ‘breathing’ so to speak?

Mitchums deodorant and extra antipersperant. You need to try and stop the sweating as opposed to just masking the scent.

LucyAutumn · 24/07/2019 21:10

Could you wear less clingy/ more breathable materials too?

AntiHop · 24/07/2019 21:10

Is dove a proper soap? I don't know as I've never used it. You need a real soap to get rid of the bacteria.

I had the problem of being smelly. Certain tops were really bad. I put them in hot wash and washed with disinfectant, but within an hour or so of wearing, they'd smell. I ended up throwing them away.

I switched from sure antiperspirant to something called Nuud which you can but online and is a different type of deodorant. I also wash my tops more often, mostly after one wear. Things are much better.

CMOTDibbler · 24/07/2019 21:10

Wash with proper bar soap (not Dove, thats a solid shower gel effectively) and then Mitchum gel

Helppppp123 · 24/07/2019 21:12

Thanks for the suggestions I will look into Mitchum, I have tried all sorts of clothes, even vest tops but ended up putting a cardigan on after I could still smell it. Tops are washed after every one use so it’s not that and clothes definitely don’t smell before putting on for the day x

Driclor, you can get it prescribed or buy it online, it is quite hard to find in shops.

It is VERY strong, you put it on every night before bed, then reduce it as the sweating stops, most people who use it put it on once a week. My son was considering surgery to stop his pits from sweating. I told him to try this and it stopped his sweating in 2 weeks, he only uses it once a week and sometimes forgets and goes 2 weeks.

I used it about 10 years ago for about a month, never used it since. Not needed to. I found I couldn’t put it on if I had shaved my pits that morning as it would bloody sting.

RainOrSun · 24/07/2019 21:15

I'd try switching soap and deodorant brands.
I stick with one soap, but change between Sure, Nivia and Dove deodorant. I also have a quick scrub at my pits with an exfoliating scrub (facial and usually, but whatever is available) if I think I've been a bit smellier than usual for a few days.

rideawhiteswan · 24/07/2019 21:16

Agree with others, proper soap, dove isn't.
Then mitchum roll on unperfumed antiperspirant, the roll on is the best in my experience. Make sure you keep your armpits are clean shaven and let your roll on dry before you get dressed.

Fruityb · 24/07/2019 21:17

Mitchum changed my life. Honestly. Found it 12 years ago and have not used another one since.

I used to have sweat patches within minutes of whatever I put on. It was awful. Now I never worry. It’s a total life changer.

Cocorico22 · 24/07/2019 21:20

Perspirex is a life changer www.perspirex.co.uk. It can sting a bit so not for everyone, but you don't have to use it every day, once a week is often enough. Apply at night, wear normal deodorant in the morning for fragrance.

BayandBlonde · 24/07/2019 21:22

I second Driclor but DO NOT put it on freshly shaved armpits. If you do, you will be ripping your pits out within 30 seconds!

Apply it at night to unshaved armpits, do this for a couple of days then you can safely shave your arm pits.

Also waxing and laser hair removal helps reduce the odour

Helppppp123 · 24/07/2019 21:23

Thank you all!

Best soaps are lemon ones. Bohemian from Lush is the best but I've not been to the store for any in ages.

I use mitchum but I'm going to look up this driclor. My poor eldest DD is also now suffering the same problem. She reeks.

Spraying with strong perfumes only partly masks the smell, and will irritate so many people. There's absolutely nothing worse than having to go near someone who is drenched in perfume or aftershave. And for those like me who are allergic to it, it's indescribable.

I often carry soap and a flannel and deodorant out with me and freshen up as many times as is needed. It's sad, and a pain, but sweat when someone says the word sun.

icanhearapindrop · 24/07/2019 21:27

I have just got driclor for exactly the same problem! I wasn’t sure how good it would be as it seems it is more for excessive sweating rather than just the odour. However, I have used it twice and it has made such a difference!! I have found it really itchy, so am on to my 3rd use and then am going to have a break, but I would still recommend it. I found it in Boots.

patientzero · 24/07/2019 21:29

Triple Dry is another good one, especially if Driclor is a bit too strong. I’m a sweaty person (TMI) but I don’t smell thanks to this!

zzzzzzzz12345 · 24/07/2019 21:29

Hi! Men’s deodorant sticks are great, sure or similar are cheap. And natural fibre, cotton or silk. Man made fibres made me smell in this heat. Once you relax you’ll smell less too, ironically worrying makes you sweat and smell more,

TeeniefaeTroon · 24/07/2019 21:31

I'd recommend driclor too. It works really well.

confusedjuly2019 · 24/07/2019 21:31

Stinks.......but worksGrin = real soap.

Halloumimuffin · 24/07/2019 21:32

Men's deodorant is stronger than women's. My sweaty friend uses that. Can you take some wipes into work and do a toilet freshen up then reapply stick deodorant?

user1473878824 · 24/07/2019 21:33

I use Dove soap too but if I haven’t worn deodorant (for a fake tan or laser treatment) and end up a bit smelly, Dove doesn’t get rid of it. Use a proper soap even just on your armpits. I don’t tend to smell unless I use nothing but I find Mitchum sticks far better than Dove, for sweat and smell. Then I’m fine using the Dove soap the rest of the time. I really noticed it when it was hot the other week and had a fake tan and didn’t wear anything all day and was shocked when I smelt the next day. You probably notice it far more than anyone else would though OP!

Spam88 · 24/07/2019 21:33

I used Mitchum for years but actually now I've swapped to a Lidl one and find it much better.

Is the dove actually an antiperspirant or just a deodorant? You definitely want an antiperspirant, and is always go roll on rather than spray.

Try and stick to natural materials as much as possible as well, I think most people probably end up smelly in man made materials.

FaithInfinity · 24/07/2019 21:33

I found Mitchum awful! I’d be sweaty within 1/2 hours, never mind their 48 hour guarantee. Should have asked for my money back.

I second Perspirex. It’s strong stuff. You Definitely do not use after shaving! Only apply where your pit hair grows. I also wash with soap, avoid polyester clothing and use Sure Maximum protection each morning too.

user1473878824 · 24/07/2019 21:33

Isn’t the issue about men’s deodorant the aluminium content and therefore links to breast cancer or is that really dated now?!

ImpracticalCape · 24/07/2019 21:34

Have you tried a crystal rock deodorant? It doesn't stop you sweating but it stops the bacteria that makes sweat smell. It sounds as if it's smell not quantity of sweat?

DH swears by it and he works in a manual job. Also a plus that it's natural. Even works on feet!

KnifeAngel · 24/07/2019 21:35

I found Mitchum was rubbish. Sure maximum protection is the best.
