Bit embarrassing so NC for this.

In a morning before work I have a thorough wash using dove soap, I then apply dove deodorant spray (I found dove one has the strongest and longest lasting scent) I drive to work with the windows down on my car but after about an hour at work I can smell my armpits Sad I am so paranoid that people can smell me, I’m paranoid walking past people incase they can smell BO and i take perfume to the toilet to try and mask the smell. It’s not an overpowering smell but enough if I tilt my head down I can smell it.

Any advice or products to recommend? Bit skint so can’t afford massively expensive things, but sat wondering if the dove soap is maybe not helping as it has moisturiser in it could it be blocking my arm pits from ‘breathing’ so to speak?

I’ve had a few bits of clothing that do seem to retain the smell but this only seems to be noticeable once I have it on and have sweated into it! Out of the wash it smelt ok, wear it for a while it smells

I soaked as much as I could before just washing them to try to soak the smell out properly

I also like triple dry

bellabasset · 24/07/2019 22:44

I found that Sure reacted with the acid on my skin, used Mitchum for years. I find wearing cotton underwear helps. You could also try coal tar soap, which is an old fashioned antiseptic soap.

To get rid of the smell of perspiration you can use vinegar in the washing machine or soak in baking soda before washing.

icanhearapindrop · 25/07/2019 17:14

I used the driclor again last night, and took some advice from a previous thread on here. After having a shower, wait about 15 mins to put it on. That way your skin is definitely dry, and your body has cooled down. The itching was definitely less, barely any at all, so I would recommend doing that.

icanhearapindrop · 25/07/2019 17:15

PeoplesFront, I don’t think it is an allergy. It is a common side effect of using it, and I had no other signs of allergy. But I will obviously keep an eye on it, thank you!

Goldenphoenix · 25/07/2019 18:58

I sweat a lot and have tried all sorts over the years!
Yes, Mitchum, Sure max protection, driclor etc will help lessen your sweating but over time my underarms got so sore using it I had to stop. I did get concerned about the health effects of using such strong products too.
These days i have gone natural and use Pitrock which is a natural salt crystal. You just wet it and rub all over armpits. It's absolutely remarkable for stopping ANY smell at all! It doesn't irritate as much (unless on shaved armpits) and doesn't stop the wetness but I seem to sweat less anyway using it, praps because my armpits are less aggrieved!
Use proper soap to kill off bacteria and spray the armpits of your tops with white vinegar before washing to get rid of lingering BO smells.
Polyester and man made fabrics as well as making you more sweaty anyway do hold on to BO smells. I try and avoid polyester at all now and wear cotton, linen or silk where I can.

Are you sweating excessively.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 25/07/2019 19:03

Perspirex, they sell it in Boots.
Its a roll on anti-perspirant.
Apply to clean and BONE DRY pits, before you go to bed.
Wash off in the morning.
Stops sweating for months.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 25/07/2019 19:07

Mitchum. Best one ever. I have bigger boobs. I use this underneath and the sweating has reduced a lot

babyboyHarrison · 25/07/2019 19:07

I used to use odaban which worked really well. I then had two sessions of underarm Botox. Stopped as was trying to get pregnant. But since then the sure maximum protection (cream deodorant in a small box) put on the night before works well enough for me now. Doesn't itch if you are not dry enough like odaban. Supposedly still fine if you shower in the morning but mostly I do this at night myself. Really happy with it.

captainprincess · 25/07/2019 19:13

Driclor is brilliant and readily available in every shop I've looked for it in. Like PP said though, don't put in freshly shaved armpits, ouch!!

SweatyBod · 25/07/2019 19:47

NC for this....

I had an operation years ago to stop blushing (snipping the nerves), side effect is hyperhidrosis. Bloody nightmare, my whole trunk part of body is like a waterfall (fortunately has no odour). I have to use medication which reduces it but doesn't stop it. I get time release oxybutynin prescribed. Non of the anti-perspirants even touch it Sad
I just have to wear layers of clothes that don't look wet when they actually are.

Mollieben1 · 25/07/2019 19:51

I swear by the roll on michem deodorant too

MyKingdomforaNameChange · 25/07/2019 21:25

I used to have this problem, and I tried using Carex hand wash as it's antibacterial - which gets rid of more of the bacteria that cause the smell. Works brilliantly for me - but I would suggest you patch test just in case!

My daughter had excessive sweating even when it was freezing she had several rounds of Botox in the armpits but eventually needed a sympathectomy as advised by her consultant who also told her it was a small op. Worked really well for her but it was not a small op and her lung would not reinflate and she had pleurisy for a week after. Ten years on and she says it’s the best thing she ever had done. 😝

itstoobloodyhot · 25/07/2019 21:43

Men's Sanex roll on deodorant is the longest lasting deodorant we have found. We are all pongy in the pits in our family and this is by far the best.

As others have said, clean pits with proper soap and as hot as you can stand it water. Do the same at work if you can half way through the day!

That's the op I had, mine was simple but left with horrendous side effect of excessive sweating all over the trunk of my body i.e compensatory sweating Sad

TheLetterOfTheLawTheLetter · 26/07/2019 06:27

Perspirex. As someone said, it can sting a bit but I promise it will stop you sweating under your arms completely for days, no exaggeration. Nothing else comes close to this product, I have tried them all!!

ilovespinach · 26/07/2019 06:42

I strongly recommend Sure maximum strength - it comes in a box and it's a cream. In use the stress protection one...

This has been a game changer for me. I suffer badly with sweating but this stops wetness. It has literally changed my life

Bigsighall · 26/07/2019 06:51

I’ve used all this stuff... the combo that works for me... driclor a couple of times a week at night, sanex 48 hour (blue one) during the day. Use plain non scented soap for washing. Everything else has not been as good.

Yogagirl123 · 26/07/2019 06:58

The max strength deodorant in the box are the BEST sure or dove work for me, I can’t get on the Mitchum makes me sore and itchy. The ones I mentioned are more expensive then regular deodorants but worth every penny.

user1498572889 · 26/07/2019 19:24

@FattyPeddledFuriously999
My daughter was warned about that but she was so sweaty that even sweating elsewhere is no where near as bad. She actually wears colours now when she would only wear black before. Do u have dry hands? She has found that she has to moisturise them all the time.

FattyPeddledFuriously999 · 30/07/2019 16:40

@user1498572889
Yes dry hands to begin with but that has stopped and can get quite clammy now if eg i'm holding hands, face is thankfully dry....

I can only generally wear black now unless they are thick winter clothes, it's not like normal sweat in that it doesn't have an odour and is very watery, it literally pours out of me even if it's not really hot/warm day, have to wear lots of layers to soak it up, it's debilitating as it covers such a huge area (everywhere from breastbone downwards and from between shoulder blades downwards.

Catsick36 · 30/07/2019 16:54

Could you take some babywipes, a small towel and a clean top? Have a quick pit wipe re-apply deodorant and put a clean top on at lunch?

justonemoredigestive · 31/07/2019 00:10

I use Dove original stick AND spray, seems to be more effective than one or the other.
Check clothes labels and get rid of absolutely everything that is made from polyester.

wafflyversatile · 31/07/2019 00:26

The smell is caused by bacteria excretions. The bacteria eat your sweat. You need to kill the bacteria in you armpits and in your clothes. Use anti bacterial wash or gel under your arms once or twice a week and maybe dip the underarm bits if your clothes in vanish oxy action solution or even boiling water to kill the bacteria there.
